I don't see a thread dedicated to my favorite club team, so here it is...

let's start with the 2004-2005 maillots...

PSG logo and date of formation

Also the history of the logo, here:

FIRST:

CURRENT:

as well as the date of formation of the club...

Obviously the arching red tower is the Eiffel tower, but what about the cradle?
It actually comes from the "berceau royale," or royal cradle, springing from a blazon/coat of arms representing the royal town of Saint-Germain en laye ("royal" because somebody royal lived there regularly).
A blazon is the actual written description of a coat of arms, a royal one of which the above town claimed as early as 1638.
From the website, where, if you look in the upper-right corner, you will see the royal blazon/coat:

...Many old documents referring to the city of Saint-Germain-en-Laye are stamped with the 3-fleur-de-lis royal seal bearing the arms of France. This "signature" identifies Saint-Germain as a royal city, first of all because it was part of the royal domain, and secondly, because it served as a residence for the royal family.

• As early as the period of the "Restoration" of the Bourbons, the city had wanted to use the seal bearing the arms of France (and of Navarre), arguing that it was justified in doing so because of Saint-Germain-en-Laye's past and its status as a royal city. Unfortunately, the city was unable to substantiate its claim at the time.
On August 11, 1816, the Ministry of Justice proposed a blazon. Thanks to a letter patent dated August 17, 1820, King Louis XVIII granted the city a blazon bearing a cradle and the date September 5, 1638, in honour of the birth date of his grandfather, Louis XIV.

• You can find the different elements of this blazon, along with an oak leaf symbolizing the forest, on the present-day Saint-Germain-en-Laye logo. It was created in 2002 and continues to identify the city's many undertakings...

Thus, PSG's logo, the evolution of which you can find here, has since about 1991 reflected "Paris" in its employment of the Eiffel Tower, and "Saint-Germain" in its use of the berceau royale, as reflected in a blazon/coat of arms for the town of Saint-Germain de Laye.

Hope this grows you knowledge of the club of the City of Light!

Oh, and although many websites will state the date of the founding of PSG as 27 August 1970, that is wrong. That date is when PSG was acknowledged by the FFF. PSG was founded on 12 August 1970, the day before I was born.

First PSG, then me.

Francis Graille (PSG) and Maurice Cohen (Nice) were elected to the Board of directors of the LFP as part of the representatives of the clubs of League 1.

They replaced both François Nicolaï (ex-Bastia) and Charles Talar (PSG).

Significance? PSG President Graille campaigned openly on the idea of challenging AS Monaco's special tax status. Now that he has won, I wonder was that winning b/c he stuck to that position, or abandoned it???

The idea of explaining the logo (or the shield) is a nice idea.

It could be a thead itself with an explanation of each club's shiled/logo.

PSG has build a good team and nezt seson will be on top again.

Aaaaaah finally, someone had enough guts to start a PSG thread... Maaany thanks to Mel Brennan!

I guess only a few people actually know about the PSG players. I will try my best to describe the starting 11;)

GK : 16 Jérôme ALONZO : The bald goalkeeper of PSG has fully revealed his talent last year. His style may not be academic; however, he saved the team many times, with his amazing reflexes. He can make unbelievable saves, but his foot play lacks of precision. He was a pretender for the 3rd GK spot of France for the Euro.

Leftback : 22 Sylvain ARMAND : The young talent will have the difficult task to replace Heinze at the left of the PSG defence. Whereas Heinze was a monster in defence, but a limited offensive player, Armand's play is mainly offensive. He's got a very big shot, he can dribble, and fully uses the left area. A lot is expected from him and his duo with Rothen, since he replaces Heinze, who was one of the Princes of Paris.

Centreback : 6 Mario YEPES : The new centre back of the City of Light comes in as the successor of former captain Fréderic Déhu and is considered as the best centre back in French Ligue 1. Famous in Europe and in South America, he has proven himself to be a rock in defence, really unbeatable (Drogba still does nightmares about Yepes), and he has an excellent header play. He tackles very hard, however he's very proper and almost never gets carded. He is the new god of the PSG defence, with Heinze and Déhu away.

Centreback : 24 José PIERRE-FANFAN : He made a fantastic comeback here in Paris after an injury that forbade him to enter the French NT. Another rock in defence, when he has to block an attacker during 90 minutes, he does it incredibly well (Again, Drogba makes nightmares about Pierre-Fanfan). He is a true wall, and his association with Yepes will surely makes the PSG defence the best in France, maybe one of the best in Europe.

Rightback : 5 Bernard MENDY : The future rightback of the French NT. Many of you have seen this wonderboy beating R.Carlos in a 1-on-1 during the France-Brazil ceremonial game. The fastest defender in French Ligue 1, he also learnt during his loan at Bolton how to defend properly, and to manage his anger. He still have to improve his crosses, however, he has learn how to beat his opponent before crossing. Many thanks to the PSG coach, Vahid Halhilodzic, for giving him his confidence.

Next-up, Midfielders and Attackers.

PS. I can't believe Greece won the European title:o

Hey ganengjdead, do you know if Armand is in fact left-footed? I thought he was right-footed...

Yeah GO Pauleta!:rockman:

Hopefully hell score today.

Pauleta has a ****ty tournament, first (and last) b/c he had ****ty service, then b/c he finished poorly the few times he DID have chances...

Oh well. Greece beat the hosts twice, the holders (France), and the most skillful total team in the tourney (Czech Republic), they deserve all the accolades they are going to get.

And PSG need to try and pick up Angelos Charisteas; you know he doesn't even START for Werder Bremen?

How good would he heading balls onto Pauleta and Fiorese and M'Bami?

Pauleta did horrible. He had the best service he could get and missed so many times too bad. Its probably his last big chance for our NT.
