Hey Nakamura, scoring in the final minutes in 2 home games in a row isn't having the 'estrelinha'?

Finally a good weekend for us. Hope this will inject a motivational shot into our players' veins for the remainder of the season. With a BragaxSporting and a BenficaxSporting ahead it might onlu depend on us again. Eh, that's a comfy thought.

Out of the 15612 brazilians we got into our team in the past 10 months, Porto bought a(n already) decent player this season: Ibson. He's been very consistent, adapted well to our league and has made a difference already a couple times. His pass to Quaresma for the 2nd goal was sublime.

Postiga has been a force, too. He's so motivated right now, scoring in almost every game and has been the referrence upfront. Who thought we would be thankful to Scolari for anything?

Finally, you have to have a go at Fabiano again. Another game, another pair of scandalous misses... He can't finish a simple tap-in to save his own life. Couceiro would be better off if he played Ricardo Costa alongside Postiga.

No.

In the last game we played better than Rio Ave and had more chances to win the game, but in the last minute they just scored an unfair goal.

This game if we have a bit of luck, the "estrelinha", we would have scored at least 3 or 4 goals.

Leiria went 3 times to our goalie, now tell me, what "estrelinha" is that?

I'm still in shock after our loss... To me it was a loss...

Exactly! Although this is something that's highly debatable, I don't think we've been having the "estrelinha". Both against Marítimo and Leiria we clearly outplayed them and created lots and lots of chances to score. Yeah, we ended up being lucky in getting late goals, but it was clearly deserved. Against Rio Ave, we played at the same level (if not better) than them and we ended up losing in the final moments, which was extremely unfair. That's not having estrelinha! Estrelinha is winning even if you play badly and have few chances and your opponents not scoring in spite of having a lot of chances, which is the exact opposite of what's happening to us...

Although I never had my expectations very high, it saddens me to see we threw 5 points away in the last two games. We were in a good position and now, while it's true we are still 1st, things will be very very very difficult. Anyway, let's remain calm. Being as reserved as I've been about Benfica winning the championship, on the brighter side this makes me have a more realistic view on this: we hadn't anything won when he had our victories sequences and were 6 points ahead and now we also don't have anything lost. All of the other teams would rather be in our position than in those they are. Also, it's well-known that we can't seem to win anything without suffering a lot! Let's see... As I said, I have a feeling we will lose the championship, but I hope this isn't what happens and in the end we Benfiquistas can all celebrate being this year's Superliga champions! I'm pretty sure this league will only be decided in the last game.

On another note, Porto can still perfectly be champions too! Just imagine this combination of results: Porto wins all their games, Braga vs Sporting is a draw, Benfica vs Sporting is a draw and in the last game Benfica doesn't beat Boavista. Result = Porto Champion! Although hard, it is clear that this combination of results is perfectly possible, so it's better to keep an eye on them. On the other hand, if they lose one game and draw another, Guimarães can pass them! This league is really something! All the decisions will be made in the very end and there are several teams fighting for many things. Contrarily to what many people say, I think this league is one of the best ever. The most competitive ever, definitely!

don't worry ADC if all goes as it should (which I highly doubt because of the influence the names involved have), Porto and maybe Boavista are gonna be competing in the Second League next year or in the year after that (H)

Bad news of the day :(

Freamunde vs Paços is a bigger rivalry than Porto vs Benfica vs Sporting... It's one of those things we can't describe... and those ****ers got away in the last decade... I miss the old Freamunde - Paços games in the old Carvalhal "stadium" (na época das peladinhas... jogava eu nos escolinhas do Freamunde... era guarda-chuvas a voar a torto e a direito à entrada dos balenários... árbitros a fugir, invasões de balneário entre equipas... isso é que eram bons tempos!!)

/me suspira...

As a curiosity, this would be the final standings of this year's Superliga if we had in the last 5 games the same results as in the 1st "volta" (assuming Sporting wins today, which I'm sure they will, without a problem):

1. Sporting - 64 points (+ 10 than now) = Champions, with direct access to CL
2. Benfica - 64 points (+9) = Direct access to CL
3. Braga - 62 points (+8) = CL preliminatory round
-------------------------------------------------------
4. Porto - 57 points (+6) = UEFA Cup
5. V. Guimarães - 56 points (+9) = UEFA Cup
6. Boavista - 55 points (+7) = UEFA Cup
-------------------------------------------------------
7. Rio Ave - 51 points (+8)
8. Belenenses - 45 points (+6)
9. Marítimo - 45 points (+6)
10. Nacional - 44 points (+9)
11. (I'm not sure on the order of these teams)
Setúbal - 40 points (+4)
Penafiel - 40 points (+6)
Leiria - 40 points (+6)
Gil Vicente - 40 points (+10)
15. Académica - 34 points (+2)
-------------------------------------------------------
16. Moreirense - 33 points (+8) = Relegated
17. Estoril - 32 points (+6) = Relegated
18. Beira-Mar - 30 points (+4) = Relegated

Basically, in the last 5 games of the "1ª volta", the best teams were Sporting and Gil Vicente (making 10 points in those games), followed by Benfica, Guimarães and Nacional (9 points). The worst teams were Académica (2 points), Setúbal and Beira-Mar (4 points). Of the teams that are now in the top 7, Porto was the one that had the worst results, with only 6 points in those last 5 games.

As I said, this is only for curiosity and fun purposes. But you can make several assumptions, from many angles, taking this into account... For instance, you can say that those points Benfica lost in the last two games may prove to be very costly. Or you could say that this point against Leiria will be decisive if Benfica manages not to lose against Sporting, in a game that can very well decide the title. You could also say that it will be very unlikely that Porto has a sequence of results as bad as they had in those 5 games, so now they may very well be able to make the most of it and end up in 1st, etc, etc, etc.

This is all speculation, but it's interesting isn't it? :)
