Benfica's youth team captain Bruno Baião, 18, had a heart attack a couple of hours ago in a coffee shop after training. He was talking on the phone, and suddenly, he fell down and immediately got inconcious.

He has been taken to the Curry Cabral hospital, Lisbon, where his teammates and coaches are waiting for news of the player, who is in coma at the moment.

He was already diagnosed a heart condition, and even stayed out of football for two years. He recently made exams, which haven't shown any possible recurrence of his problem.

No, not again... :(

Again this... i can't understand how this things still happen, speccially after Fehér's death. Hope he gets better. :(

I know that, but that's one more reason to prevent situations like this, i mean, if the boy had some heart problems before... i don't want to speculate about this, let's see if he gets better.

Some updates on the news:

Bruno is now breathing with the help of a ventilation system. His teammates are unhappy at the time INEM took to get to where they were. It had to be Benfica's medic and his teammate Tiquinho to do the primary reanimation manouvers (sp?). His current state is considered much reserved. The medical staff will update the situation at 7PM main land time.

He was talking to his agent, Paulo Barbosa, when he fell on the ground. He was just telling Bruno he would be signing his professional contract with the club after the Portuguese Cup final and would probably be promoted to the main squad, and then, the call went down. When Barbosa called him again, his colleague Tiago Santos picked up the phone and gave the horrible news. Then, the agent informed the player's parents of what was going on.

Unbelievable what happened, the kid was probably very close to see his dream come true(promoted to the main squad) and then this happens... i think this case should make us think a little bit.

Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira arrived a few minutes ago in the hospital to follow Bruno Baião's situation by the minute.

His diagnosis remains extremely reserved. It has been announced that his heart has already stopped twice.

With the absence of good news for so many hours, it makes us think about the worse... :(

this is horrible news, common lord this is too much now. He's 18 years old, he has a whole life ahead of him. No parents want to bury their children. Forca Bruno.

Ps. Is this guy Rui Baiao's brother?

Someone up there doesn't seem to like Benfica players.... (Hope no one takes offense to that, I don't want anyone to misinterpret it)

But I think this case is a bit more stranger than Feher's (happening during a telephone call in a cafe). Although I don't think there were heart problems that were known about Feher. But I think he'll make it, simply because he's survived a few hours, and Feher only stayed alive for about an hour if that.

really sad to hear about that :( damn, hope the kid comes back from this one!

If anyone is interested (or anyone cares) Boavista is also touring around the USA and Canada, to define next season's squad

30 players will be included and those will be:

From the current squad:

William, Kahdim, Hugo, Turra, Eder, Ricardo Silva, Jorge Silva, Anunciação, Frechaut, Raul Meireles, Andre, Ricardo Sousa, Calviño, Martelinho, Cafu, Vitor, Ali

From the youth squad:

Hugo Monteiro, Felix and Paulo Gomes

Players on loan:

Saúl (Beira-mar), Igor (Ribeirão), Barreto (Estoril), Joao Pedro (Ermesinde), Daniel (Chaves), José Pedro (Setúbal), João Paulo (Beira-mar), Diogo Valente (Chaves), Yuri (Gil Vicente)

Also the latest signing, Nelson from Salgueiros, will be joining the tour

Fary is the only player that will be missing the tour but is set to be included on the next season. Of the 30, only 20/25 will be part of it...

Marcio Santos, Luiz Claudio and Rui Lima have been released

Pedrosa and Rui Oscar ended contract

Jocivalter, Pedro Santos, Mario Loja and Duda will be loaned

Sporting have begun negotiations to renew Niculae's contract. Great news, since he's done so well since returning. Though I don't know if it has to do with him being a great player or giving up on #7. :crazyboy:

Paulo Bento, according to record, might resign with Sporting.

And rounding out with Big Phill.(again record.pt)

"Falta a mínima coisa.

why do I get the feeling that Baia will be the starting GK at Euro2004? If Scolari is basing his selections on current form then I think he's almost obligated to put Baia or Moreira in net, Ricardo is certainly not up to the task right now. Haven't seen Quim play in a long time so can't comment on his form atm..
