The 'That club from far far away' thread

The proposal here is simple: ask the locals/fans/rivals for feedback on that dodgy-looking club from another country, with that odd-sounding name, a particularly attractive kit, where that past legend from your side found refuge... How ther are rated? Any major news? Do anybody actually care?

I'd like to start our Argie folks :sun: about Arsenal de Sarandíl. I've read a teeny bit on then and it got me startled. Their relation to both clubs from Avellaneda, the original kit design, the suggestive name. all of that seems bloody interesting, at least for me...

I've always had a curiosity for Gallos Blancos from Mexico! C'mon, the "White Roosters", you know that team has to have a story behind it!? :funny:

I understood what you meant, great thread idea! I always see club names from wherever and wonder what the story is behind them, what kinda fans they got, any famous names ever play there, etc

Anyone know anything about that Atlas side from somewhere South-America? :$

There's an Atlas in Argentina which is from the 5th division, through their history they've been mostly going between 5th division and getting unaffilied(aka getting relegated from professional football), last season they were close to get promoted to thr 4th division though, their kits look like Aston Villa's(i'll try to get a picture), amd as most of the metropolitan 5th division teams of Argentina they use Kappa.

And you think about Arsenal FC, but well in Chile there's an Everton, in Uruguay there's a Liverpool, and a Motevideo Wanderers FC, in Ecuador there's a Barcelona too.

Here got so-so pictures of Atlas' kits.

Romanian international, Razvan Cocis plays for them. Every big club in Romania wants him but the bastards are asking for too much. He's a fine fine young player. That's all you need to know.

I belive he refers the mexican club

Atlas (Guadalajara).- A traditional club in Mexico although they only have 1 league championship like 50 years ago!!, its the club that provides more youngsters to 1st division in the last years, but they hardly stay there they go to a bigger club in 2 or 3 years at most , in fact a lot of "big" players of the Mexican NT were made in Atlas (Oswaldo Sanchez, Borgetti, Pavel Pardo,Rafael Marquez , Guardado, Rafael Garcia, Mario Mendez), they had a brilliant years in late 90s with Lavolpe as their Coach but never managed to win anything they lost a final vs Toluca in 98 i think, and had a great Copa Libertadores playing brillanty, i think they got to semis a decent place for a team with very little money. They had this golden generation and a great hope for mexico´s future but when all moved to bigger clubs never did a thing.

Gallos Blancos (Queretaro).- Its a team that was created in the early 2000s, they never done a thing they got relegated and now this year are back but with financial problems so there is a possiblity that they dont play in 1st divsion, they were created cuz queretaro is a big soccer fan city with a great stadium ,but its a very tiny club and i dont see them with a competitive team if they manage to stay in Primera

I am curious about htis Mls team, Red Bulls?

In Argentina we have a lot of English named teams, even though only a few are directly linked to English teams (like Arsenal de Sarandí). We also have Banfield, Boca Juniors (the Junior part), River Plate, Racing Club, Alumni (which does not exist anymore), Newell's Old Boys, etc... I don't know if this I am posting is actually related to what you are looking for in the thread.

For example Boca Juniors got their team colors from a Swedish ship that sailed into the port of Buenos Aires. The owners had decided that they would choose the colors for the team depending on which ship arrived at the harbor first, and it happened to be a Swedish one.

River Plate, for example, got their name due to the fact that some workers on the port had received some metal plates from England that had to be layed on the port. On the plates it read, "River Plate".

Some teams from Argentina do have funny names like "Sacachispas" which means spark-producer or "Defensa y Justicia" which means defense and justice.
