So, which is it, Hisashi? Do we follow the Bible, or only those parts of the Bible that we choose? But isn't the whole Bible the unadulterated word of God? I mean, I'd think that, much like fornication, you either follow the word of God, as written down in that book, or you don't. But if you pick and choose, how can you truly know you are doing what God wants you to do, rather than what you want to do yourself?

Ahh CarlosDanger . You"re often looking for an excuse to reason away the Bible or reject it so you can proceed independently of God to pursue youre own unrighteous agendas. As Christ put it, he doesn’t want to come to the light because his deeds are evil (see John 3:19-21).Just because we can’t seem to solve a problem or understand something or because it seems contradictory to us does not means it is unsolvable or not true. The slaughter of Israel’s enemies at the command of God may seem inconsistent with a loving God, but it was really an act of love for Israel and others due to the moral condition of these nations which included child sacrifice as archaeology has clearly shown. The degradation of these people was horrible. Further, God, who knows the hearts of men and what they will and will not do, was acting on the basis of that knowledge. Thus, God ordered their judgment in order to protect Israel and their development as a nation, for it was through them that God would give the Savior of the world, the Lord Jesus Christ. Further, God had waited some 400 years before ordering their destruction until their iniquity became complete.

You need to read the whole bible not just take a scripture and judge God!

I'm not surprised that religion still holds so much sway in your life, as it takes root and flourishes in the fertile soil of ignorance. You seem to come from a fairly well-off position, so perhaps you'll have a chance to broaden your view of the world as you grow up.

My issue is with the man-made religions that profess to worship this supreme being and know this being's thoughts, desires and designs. The bible is a book written by men over the course of the past two millennia to control other men (and women). And it is especially funny to think that, should such a being exist who created the immense vastness of our universe, it would take the time to write a book and give it to a small group of ultra-violent ape beings on one tiny planet out of the billions that exist.

Hardened in sin?

I am good to my family, I love them. I take care of my children. I try to help others and give to good causes. I don't go out of my way to hurt others. I generally respect (though don't blindly obey) the laws of my country. All that without a book and some made up set of doctrine to guide me.

If you choose to unquestioningly accept that book as the Word of God, that is your life, but no thank you. Even if a supreme being does exist, there's no way that the ridiculousness that is in that book even comes close to representing what a supreme being is or what it wants. I've shown you numerous contradictions in that book already. There are hundreds of them. Taking some time to reason and think would clearly show that book is nothing more than a collection of rules set out by men to control men. There are some good things in there, but nothing that a person who is decent and not a sociopath wouldn't do anyway. I don't need a set of 10 rules or the book of some guys who wanted to control other people to live life in a positive way. I do that, anyway.

There have been a lot more horrible acts done in the name of religion and by religious men and priests than this "hardened sinner" has committed in his life

As I said, I don't know if there is a supreme being or not (how could a human really know for sure?). But I'm damn sure I don't believe in any religion. I don't believe the bible is the word of this supreme being. I am decent and I am happy. I don't need a book or a building with a guy in robes and incense and a cross to tell me that I'm a good person, I know in my heart what I am. I'm human, sometimes bad, mostly good. I've done things I wish I hadn't, but overall I would consider my karmic balance to be positive. I thing Sir_Didier_Drogba's a twat, Mandieta6's a nerd and you need to expand your experience and knowledge of the world.

I don't deny the existence of God, per se, but I do deny that you or any other religious person knows what he/she/it wants from us. I don't believe in the bible, Christianity or any other religion, but that doesn't mean I don't believe there could be some sort of higher power out there. I accept that as one possibility.
