Sorry but it doesnt feature Parkhead or any Scottish Stadium, it uses generic names for Stadiums such as England, France 1, France 2, Spanish 1, etc etc which are quite obviously Wembley, Stad de Paris etc etc.
Copying a player is in the customise player section. Basically you can copy a player from one team to another team so if you want Rivaldo playing for Hibs you go to the customise section and copy him across. The say for Authenticity that they havent let you customise the International teams so if your a big sad loser like me who wants to play in the Scotland line up you have to go into the customise team and create a Scotland custom team, copy the Scotland squad across into this custom team, change a player name for your own name, cheat on the attributes so you are gods greatest gift to football since JJ and play. However you wont be able to play with your created Scotland in any of the "official" international sections just the custom leagues and cups.
Sorry at this point I dont know where you can get screen shots from on the web yet but I will post tomorrow when i find a couple of online reviews.
Also sorry but NZ's tv system is the same as Australia and Britains so the games we get here wont play on US tv.

ZZUB

With respect to the reviewer complaining that it took 3 hours to score a goal well it is hard to score at first. You need to learn to apply the right amount of time on holding the shoot button to score. You need to learn all of the tricks in the control system to make space and time to get a shot off. You cant pick up this game and score first time you play. However once you start to learn how to play and this takes time to do the game gets better and better> I was disappointed at first and have become more and more hooked as the days go by. I think Im also hooked by a football game that doesnt claim to be perfect or the best and its creators are actually asking for feedback via their website. If ISS Evolution is as good as its previews say then I think EA will have to finally pull their fingers out and make a real effort. At last their is real competiton for them.
The cheats become available once you win leagues or cups in either pro or world class level. They range from making a couple of extra "stadiums" available (Beach and Park) to giving you a team of midgets or giants to play with etc etc

ZZUB,

Thanks for answering my Q`s got more for u yipee.
Can you rename the Stadiums?
eg France to Paradise
Do you Support the Bhoys?

No sorry you cant rename the stadiums but thats probably a suggestion Dominic or whatever his name is on the TIF website would appreciate hearing.
Im actually an Aberdeen supporter, I was born there back in 1962 and came to NZ as a baby. I did get to go to the 1971 cup final between Aberdeen and Celtic while we were back in Scotland on holiday. I was 9 years old, I will never forget it. There were 117,000 people at Hampden that day when Joe Harper and Martin Buchan etc scored that upset victory. I still have the newspapers from the following day somewhere. You will hate me for that. To be honest I support any Scottish team anywhere, I havent grown up with that intense loyalty to one single club, part of living in a rugby country I guess. Jimmy Johnstone was a huge hero of mine though. I was living in London as a student for two years at the end of the 80's but have yet to get to go to a Scotland game. Maybe next year. My dad played for Abroath and the Scotland amateur team in 1961, the year before I was born, Les Stephen was his name but he shattered his leg after his 3rd game and never played again. I got to play in the NZ national league in the early 80's but wrecked my ligaments and that stuffed me. I was never as good as the old man though.

Hmmm you got a thing with Sheep, Coming from babberdeen and moving to NZ. haha na just kidding. A dinny mind em` i like Jess and winters.

Your da was a pro eh. Mine reckoned he could have if he wanted too, it`s a shame he didn`t have the self confidence. He played premier in sydney and has a few best and fairest to show for it. he also played in NZ. But he`s got a few years on you so you probably don`t know him.

He`s really encouraged me though, not that i needed it. I`m no JJ but without bieng too cocky i am no bad. I played rep a few times but they ask for too much money out of you so i get my recognition through league and School footy. Da`s takin me over to Scotland for a few trials in march-April so we`ll see how that goes. Were good pals with Carlos*ie McNamara and he`s told me to give it a shot and me da`s good pals with jim jefferies (hearts manager) so we could check that out, at least i`ll know if i could have, something i think dad regrets.
Sorry to hear about your ligaments.

Gooner, good luck with the trials etc.
Here is a website with a not so flattering review of TIF and also it contains screenshots. The screenshots are taken from television and are no way as vibrant as the game looks. Still it will give you a good idea of how it looks

If you have PSX and a MOD CHIP that lets you playing JAPANESE GAMES, please get WINNING ELEVEN 4.

THIS GAME IS THE BEST SOCCER GAME EVER MADE, IT HAS REAL GAMEPLAY ITS HARD TO SCORE AND EVERY KNOW AND THEN I GET A TIE PLAYING WITH THE CPU ON A 10 minutes match.

And the fouls are very well called partly to the good controll over tackling where you control the direction of it. If your past the last man of deffence and you get tackled from behind who tackles you gets a red card. Also the AI never cheats no matter how high you set the AI, if they make a foul the referee will call it.

But if you dont have a MODCHIP for JAPANESE games wait for the american version tahts coming out on march2000, or if you like get the older version ISSS98 rpo

About that review at Gamespot this same reviewer called FIFA 2000 nearly perfect, so how can you take anything this guy says seriously? So he had Chelsea win the league undefeated and he calls this unealistic, how about West Ham winning the league in FIFA 2000? thats realism?, and where is the mention of the ridiculous high scoring in FIFA 2000? If I didnt know better Id say this guy was getting paid off by EA...

Man I hope you guys get to play this game soon so I can work out if Im some sort of loser who thinks This is Football is a good game or if Im right in believing its a better game than FIFA 2000.
How come a dipstick like me in some third world backwater like New Zealand gets this game before you lot?

Most of the playstation reviews I have read have rated Fifa 2000 as a 9/10. Most of the reviews I have read for This is Football give it a 7/10
I have played every playstation soccer game produced and until now have thought that the World Cup 98 and Iss Pro soccer games on the playstation were about the best. Right now my opinion is that This is Football is out in front. I am looking forward to ISS Evolution but basically after Fifa 99, Fifa 2000 I have given up on EAsports producing a decent game. They completely ignored all the complaints about Fifa 99 and its insanely fast ping pong ball type gameplay.
The interesting thing to me here is that This Is Football is a great effort for a first time game and they want to hear from people how to make the game better. When have you ever seen on a website the head of EAsports Fifa series project manager asking for input, criticism, suggestions and thoughts?. If you go to www.playstation-football.com you will see a bulletin board where the Project Manager for This is Football is doing just that.
Personally after having played the game for a couple of weeks now Im finding the game gets better each time I play it. On world class level its a challenge without being a high speed button thrash, it has great graphics, the framerates are so smooth that when I look at my Fifa 2000 game, Fifa 2000 looks jerky. There is depth to the gameplay, controls and options. I will still be playing this game in 6 months and enjoying it.
There have been a couple of rave reviews for the game and some real bad reviews. Basically hire it first to see if you like it but remember one thing. This game doesnt reveal everything to you after one hour, it takes a couple of weeks to be able to play it really well. This game wont appeal to everyone. So far it is has the closest feel to how a real game feels like out of all the games I have played.

Ok two reviews I saw one guy complained he couldnt score for three hours it was so hard, and the other guy complained you could only play one round schedual(which was proven not true). Do I trust these reviewers who spend an hour or two playing the game and went back to fragging in Quake 2, or do I trust people who are dedicated soccer gamers?

Yet all these magazines were praising FIFA 2000 like it was the best ever, what the heck were they talking about, they loved it couse it was "FUN!", please what a load of crap. The only honest review I saw was in Computer Games Magazine, and they gave it 4 out of 5 stars for the "FUN" factor, but clearly pointed out that as a sim it was a joke( they did point out most of the shortcoming of this game, unlike the crappy on-line reviews which appeared just before the game came out.)

ZZUB it is kind of weird to hear this guy talking about the next game already, and most of us haven't even seen this version yet!

Ok the following is a letter with replies I recieved from Domonic Cahalin, project manager for Sony's This is football. Its a long letter so bear with me. My main point in putting this letter here is that we obviously have a company who actually give a damn as to what the fans want. I find this extraordinary considering EA's attitude to the same complaints each new release. Enjoy.

Dominic,
Thanks for the reply and also thanks for allowing me the
chance to share a few thoughts on TIF with you. I hope some of what I say
may be of some use. I have been playing soccer games on the playstation
since 1996 and have played and owned virtually every game produced. Lets
just say im addicted. I also played soccer to a decent level.

Firstly, congratulations on producing what to me is so far the best
soccer game made for the playstation. For me one of the most important
things in a game is the gameplay and you have created a challenging,
intuitive and very realistic feeling game. The longer I play TIF the
better it gets. At first it was hard, I had to get all of my other game
habits out of my system (mainly Fifa series) and then as I got better I
was able to move up to world class level which I am still some way from
mastering.

I have noticed and have read that you have made an effort to start from
scratch with this game and rather than follow other games leads you have
concentrated on making your own path. This shows and is a major plus,
however through out this email I will from time to time refer to other
soccer games to hopefully help illustrate a point. When I do this please
be clear that I rate your game number 1. I am also appreciative that on
the website someone involved in the game is actually available to reply
to concerns, questions or thoughts.. If you were to go to a soccergaming
website called www.soccergaming.com and go to the fifa2000 forum you will
discover a great deal of discontent and disappointment with their latest
game. It might be a good idea to take a peek at this because hidden among
the grumbles are pointers to what many soccer gamers pray for.

Dominic: Yeah I've seen it, there's some interesting stuff (thanks)

I have what may at first appear to be a long list of complaints or
suggestions. Your game is already 90% of the way to being the perfect
soccer game in my opinion so please dont view any of the following as
negatives, view them as hopes or suggestions.

I will start with the camera angles. I personally prefer a stadium
camera or isometric camera type angle, preferrable with the ability to
adjust height etc as in Actua soccer3. I have got used to your side view
but even this view is a little behind compared to some other games in
that it is at such an angle that I find myself mostly playing on the side
of the pitch closest to the camera. Im not playing with the whole pitch.
I know I can and that there is nothing stopping me but psychologically I
think I find it harder to play with the players small and adjust my
judgement of where the ball is when they are way over there in the
distance on the far side of the field. Often I misjudge the ball when its
on the other side and find it rolling out of play, this rarely happens on
the closer side. I would love to see TIF with a stadium/isometric view as
in the FIFA series or the Actua series.

Dominic: Don't despair ! it looks likely that we'll add some new cameras

You have limited the customisation of players etc so that we cannot
customise the national teams because you wish for it to remain authentic.
Im one of those geeks that loves to put myself into the Scotland team,
hype up all my attributes so I am the greatest soccer god ever created
and then play for Scotland in world cups, Euro cups and qualifying games.
Could you please allow nerds such as myself this luxury in the next
version. If people want to keep it authentic they can simply not
customise. I know I can create a custom Scotland team and import players
etc but I am unable to take part in world cups with this team. Your
customise section is brilliant though, I love it. Would it be possible to
also link club players to their respective national squads?. This might
allow me to cheat myself in a club team and then the national side
automatically contains my enhanced version.

Dominic: There are actually technical problems with customising international teams
- Have you noticed that their kits are noticably better and more detailed
(i.e they are not compatible with the custom kit feature (as are the club
teams) - instead they are 'hard' art created. So the International teams
are essentially different kinds of teams to the club teams - However I'll
look into the possibilty of changing this...

I dont have any real problems with your control system, everything is
straightforward and pretty easy to use. However on world class level the
Artificial Intelligence that controls the players I am using can
sometimes appear stupid

Dominic: AI will be completely revamped

. I find that if I use automatic player selection
then it doesnt react very well when in and around the penalty spot.

Automatic player selection will definitely be improved

Players closest to the ball dont automatically come under my control etc.
If I use manual control on world class when i get to this area I find I
dont have the dexterity to keep up with the rush of control I need to
pass, shoot and control swerve etc all in one go. This also affects my
ability to defend and most goals I concede all follow a similar style. My
defenders dont react well or I have trouble selecting the right guy to
chase the attacker with.

Dominic: AI will be completely revamped - I know it can get frustrating...

I also suspect that if I was able to play with
an isometric camera angle I could spot what to do easier. It may be Im
simply hopeless, I have spotted others on your website have been able to
win leagues etc on world class. I am still struggling to get Manchester
United to get out of the bottom third on world class. I will win it
eventually im sure.

Dominic:

You'll get there !

Tip 1.

If playing in a domestic league fully Customise your club team's abilities
- this will boost performance by 15% by utilising the extra energy
allowance

Tip 2.

Use chipped through ball to break down defences - CPU intercepts @85 of
hopeful ground through balls

Tip 3 use L1 to track back, and don't neccessarily commit to a tackle if
CPU are attacking down the middle 7 times out of 10 they'll opt to shoot
from long range, with an extremely low success rate (this in all honesty
need st o be revamped as well

Tip4

Concentrate ! at all times

Tip5

when shooting aim for corners by guiding player 'away' from you or
'towards' you (when playing in side mode) and hitting shoot whilst facing
(holding) in these directions. the player will turn automatically and slot
the ball into the net

The computer controlled teams Goalie spends more time throwing the ball
to its players than kicking, even on world class level I win 75% of the
ball the keeper throws. This may need looking at.

Dominic: AI will be completely revamped

The team management side lacks a little depth. It would be nice to be
able to have some control over player positioning within formations and
with attacking or defending bias etc. Being able to in the team
management section choose who are my penalty, free kick or corner takers
would be appreciated.

Dominic: We will be implementing all of your ideas listed here - in addition to some
extras you have not mentioned - this part of This is Football was very
limited, due mainly to time considerations

A training section in the game would also be a welcome addition. The new
UEFA striker game has a superb training section, as did the Libero Grande
game.

Dominic: Probably not for the next sequel, but almost definitely as a longer term
concern

I am still struggling to get the crosses to go towards my strikers
rather than right to the goal line where the goalie is. I have used the
cross button with the R1 and aftertouch etc but I havent been able to
have much luck with this as yet.

Dominic: Loads of people have had problems with this - I apologise

Basically some goalies are so good in World class that they get to far too
many crosses.

Techniques to experiment with

1. definitely use aftertouch and curl the ball away from the gaolie

2 try crossing from a bit deeper, on counter attacks

3. keep experimenting, It is possible to score from crosses even against
rock hard goalies

We will be revamping this part of the game!

I think at this point that is all I can offer. Basically I love your
game, the graphics are great, the stadiums are great the options etc are
great. I have no doubt you guys will tweak all the various aspects of the
game and I suspect you are about to take over from EAsports at the top of
soccer games. (I know the ISS series is the purists number 1, I love that
game also but it doesnt sell as well as the Fifa series) Please dont
speed up the gameplay, if you do at least give us the option to play at
this speed, its perfect. The last game I got excited about was EAsports
World Cup 98 which was apart from a few issues (jerky gameplay, lag on
button press and reaction to instruction) EAsports were heading in the
right direction. Sadly they lost the plot with FIFA 99 simply playing
like high speed ping pong and Fifa 2000 hasnt improved much. I wont be
waiting for the next EAsports game, I will be hanging out for your next
version of TIF

Once again, thanks for listening and pass on my regards to everyone who
produced TIF. For a first up effort its absolutely brilliant and even if
this was a third or fouth generation of TIF it would still be hugely
impressive.

Have a great Xmas and New Year
Mike Stephen

Ok now i`m totally confused!
I don`t trust reviewers because i don`t get anyone who actually likes playing Quake and stuff like PP said and i won`t get anything that doesn`t have real players and teams. Right which do i go for?
I`ve narrowed it down to 2.

THIS IS FOOTBALL OR FIFA 2000?

The only cons stopping be from getting TIS is the season length and with 2k it`s the choppy frame rate and the Ping pong speed.
