South american sides will give it their all, because they have an inferiority complex (having to prove they're better), but I guess europeans don't care at all...

The problem with this cup and the Intercontinental is the place were it is played...come on, JAPAN?!?! It should be played in Europe or at least USA, cheaper tickets, and probably more southamerican fans...

And other problem is the dates, it should be played before the season starts not in the middle of it...

And about that inferority complex, yes of course SA clubs are poor compared to the europeans clubs...and we love to see our team against the big monsters of Europe...Goaliath versus David.

In europe no one knows much about our football, our leagues, our players and our coaches...

But in the end, its just football, 11 vs. 11 and you cant win by showing how big your bank account is...most of the time the most talented wins...

I just hope that Sao Paulo wins, becouse its a better team than Liverpool.

And i remember when Juve, Real, Bayern won the Intercontinental they were extremely happy....or they are great actors...

no, Sao Paulo is not better than Liverpool.... for every Traore Liverpool have, there's a Danilo.... don't take my opinion on this though, I'm obviously biased...

Of course they were happy.... who isn't happy for winning? the thing is, you won't see heartbroken Liverpool fans if they lose... they'd rather see Liverpool pushing their domestic campaign... their current good form could be broken (touch wood) when they get back, and they will/can suffer the effects of the long trip...

Anybody would be happy to win any cup, but the importance of it is ranked based on how much income you would get and how much popularity. Obviously both EPL and CL are much more popular than FIFA World Club Cup and teams make more money from those 2, that's why they are more important.

I agree with Kibe Kru (i'm not a Liverpool fan mind)

Of course the fans would like to see their team succeed, but Liverpool will give their bench players some international match experience and playing time, by next month, everyone will have forgotten the result of this tournament, even if Liverpool win 277-1 (well, maybe not if that really is the scoreline, but you know what i mean)

well... i for one won't mind if they win it... the title world club champions means nothing to me, it's just that we never won the title before it's good to add this to the list of honour we won already.... but whether it will affect our league form well i guess we will find out next week then... :D

Who knows, maybe Liverpool will get better experience from the tournament and will start playing better and be able to finally beat teams like Chelsea this season.

oh and the jokes about liverpool being beaten by sao paulo don't end here.

'the dream IS over' and 'Liverpool = Titanic' are just a few samples...

'The Reds are Red ashamed now', and etc, etc...well, everyone is enjoying it...haha...i wished sao paulo lose, cause they're the most arrogant team of this country, perhaps in the planet.

maybe the fans don't really care as I asked it to them, but...the expressions in gerrard's and luis garcia's faces (as well the complaints after the match, speciall benitez' ones) show that they DID care about it.

btw, it's funny...i remember that in 93, when sao paulo defeated milan, one of the defenders (responsable for marking muller, which scored with his heel almost unintentionally) pulled his hair up in desper, when the score was 3-2, close to the end of the match (of course, muller had just scored the 3rd goal). I remember Papin too, with his hands on his hips...and he hasn't got a really happy face.

every european team is received back in its city with the intercontinental trophy, filling up the streets with fans celebrating with them...now, i can't get it...

as previously posted, nobody likes losing, especially the way liverpool lost, dominating the whole match...
imho, this championship is worth as much as the 2000 one, and the toyota ones... worth a lot to S. Americans, almost nothing to Europeans...
To europeans, it was just a match, and they didn't want to lose... Gerrard and Garcia weren't mad they lost, they were just disappointed, and that's a lot different... if you CARE, you get mad after you lose... if you don't, you just get disappointed...
Ask Milan fans when they felt worse, losing to pool in the CL final or losing to Sao Paulo in the Toyota... there you'll see the importance given to these competitions...

Real Madrid win the CL = WOOOAAHH! more than 500.000 ppl in the streets singing and wearing white shirts and flags !!

Real Madrid lose the CL = Everyone is sad

Real Madrid win the Intercontinental CuP = ah Madrid won ? UH nice :)

Real Madrid lose the Intercontinental = Who cares about that cup

....

3 years ago Real Madrid team won that cup facing a team with a name i cant remember, with players i cant remember, and from Peru? Paraguay? I mean it was supposed to be the final of the best tourney ever, and we were playing a unknow team. We dont get motivation on that. Its funnier when we face any european top team.

Well it means more to the people of Sao Paolo that it does to the people of Liverpool! Considering Sao Paolo is probably the same size as the whole of England..lol. And people in Europe take things for granted. To those people it really means a lot. Well done Sao Paolo....
