We will never know how many
many places in India and Indonesia which were hit are very much nomadic places.
Sumarta and the fishing communities in Southern India are so poor many dont have proper communication like land line phones and many people in those communities would have lost so much they would know whose missing.

Whole communities of 100s have been washed away, who would know they would be missing?

The waves really didn't look that big...

I had imagined a 30ft wall of water crashing onto the beach (kind of like a normal wave but thicker).
From videos and pics I've seen it looks pretty small...

Yeah, I was expecting this giant wall of water.. that engulfs cars, houses, etc., honestly, this doesn't look that big (could be that the photo doesn't do the wave justice) :

Yeah I've seen guys surf waves 3 times that size.
You might be right though that the photo doesn't do it justice.

I looked back, and I noticed that the actual wall is quite high from the ground.. and the wave isn't exactly at the shore yet, so it could be in a deeper water.

Either way, still doesn't seem that big :(

You can still see the horizon so it doesn't seem that big...

Here's a pic of Jaws. Now that's a big wave.

Maldini, Zambrotta and Pippo Inzaghi managed to get the hell out of Maladewa, while Materazzi was yet to be contacted. Those Serie-A players were on vacation.

My dads in Singapore so i was so worried. Everythings fine though.

Very very tragic. A lot of people are still missing in many parts. The death toll is going to keep rising for a few days. The coastal regions of India, Indonesia etc are densely populated and a lot of fishermen are missing (something like 35,000) ! in addition to the official death toll.

Very sad :(
