:| Why would you underestimate United? Everybody in the world knows about Man Utd. There's hardly ANY football from Portugal on the TV in England. How are teams supposed to know who their danger man is, if you can't see them week in, week out like you can with Man Utd. I'm not making any excuses her, at all. Man Utd are a far better team, if you disagree, then you are an idiot. Man Utd at their best > Benfica at their best.

I don't think everyone especially the players and manager sit round the table and watches Man Utd on Saturdays over here man. They might catch a game or two monthly if that much.

I'm not saying we're better than Man Utd. I'm saying we were better than them on Wednesday and it definitely was no fluke.

Did your national team underrate ours in Euro2000 and 2004 btw?

If you say you underestimated us and didnt have enough knowledge about Benfica, how do you know we wouldn't finish in the top half of the EPL? We might be better than what you saw you know, missing key players and all.

No Portuguese soccer on tv in england so that why Man Utd and other English clubs underestimated Portuguese teams? what? that's classic material man, the fact that you think teams learn about their opponents through watching them on television! Ever heard of assistant coaches, scouts, etc making trips to observe other teams. studying Videos?

How can you say that, maybe the supporters(like you) don't get to watch them, but there are scouts, videos, and hundreds of other things.

It says alot about the tradition btw the two countries when they were able to lose against us in Mexico 86 with that Saltilho affair when we were incredibily crap. England is the best team in the world LOLZoMFG!!!, ít´s always the same crap in the threads. It´s amazing that they still insist with the same old excuses and whining, of all ppl you should learn when to stop already. These matchups btw Portuguese teams and English teams have a tradition, just let them talk, we get the results.

it's too bad you always get sore losers like this, we have them too unfortunatly...at least they're still a minority. I'm always glad when Portuguese teams meet English, both at club and NT level given our rich footballing tradition and rivalry it's always a special occasion. Here's hoping we get Liverpool next.

Haven´t been around lately so I just want to congratulate all Benfica fans! What a kick-ass win, especially if you look at the players who were not present last wednesday. Real achievement, even I celebrated their goals... :|

This is a great classic thread, so a big cheer to all ManU fans who lost with their heads up high. To those complaining about the diving - we all know that is your excuse when you get your arses kicked - but just watch Rangers at home versus Porto this season.
Honestly, I wish Geovani was offside in that first goal and Beto had used his hand to control the ball before firing it up.

As for Ronaldo's gesture, man, he is a professional and playing away to an aggressive crowd is part of why it is more difficult than participating in home games. The crowd did all they could to mess him up and they did a fine job at it. Of course I did not like it, but, as shinji said, it is all part of the territory...
