UCL Semi-Final - Liverpool v. Chelsea - 2nd Leg {P} & {R}

Looking back on the ties I have to say the best team lost. Yesterday only one team played, Chelsea. Liverpool just defended magnificently. Chelsea only had to score once and they'd be trough, but Liverpool succeeded in preventing Chelsea from doing that. To me it's all good though, because I wanted Chelsea out of the CL.

Mourinho has regained some respect in my book. The way he acted after the final whistle was fantastic and showed he actually has class.

Oh, I forgot to add... Hamann is such an underrated footballer. He's awesome, even at his age. I've hardly ever seen him put in a bad performance.

Mourinho is too smart to know he wasnt able to act as a moron cause everybody already hate him!

I have to say Didi Hamann is what you can call a reliable player... though you won't see him making it pretty you won't see him blowing up a match and even though there are players better than him, I have to say I'm very satisfied with him

Hamann was a wall yesterday. I honestly thought Rafa would be crucified because of bringing on Kewell for him, if Chelsea had scored a goal.

Ricardo Carvalho's discipline stats:

------------------------------- APPS YC RC
Barclays Premiership Chelsea ----19(3) 1 0
World Cup Qualifying Portugal ----6(0) 0 0
UEFA Champions League Chelsea -10(0) 2 0
Carling Cup Chelsea -------------3(0) 0 0
FA Cup Chelsea----------------- 1(0) 1 0

Not only he's one of the cleanest defenders in the game but his stats also prove it.

Do a bullsh*t check next time before posting hate filled trash in the forum.

Dude I totally agree. The ball's on the right and there's someone open, Carvalho's there. Someone needs to clean up a loss ball, he's there. And I don't know how long it's been since I saw him make a mistake:eek:

He's still second to Nesta though:fool:

Nesta is definately the man, but Carvalho ain't too far behind.

How did Liverpool win that? It wasn't a goal (probably), they only got into the Chelsea half twice in the second half, and suddenly they're in the final. The steal of the century.

But you know how it is when you hear some crafty criminals have lifted masses of cash from a vault somewhere... you can't help but have a sneaking respect for them.

The back four was brilliant, Carragher especially, although he'd better stay clear of Clive Tyldesley - who is clearly besotted with the lad.

Even the Hair Band Bunch - Baros, Luis Garcia and Kewell - did their bit to shore up the defence. Well done Liverpool!

As for Chelsea, well it's only two titles after all. That's got to be enough for any team. I'd like to say it's good to see Mourinho looking miserable, but he always looks bloody miserable does the Man from Milk Tray.

And Chelsea do have one thing Liverpool don't have yet: a place in the Champions League next season.

Can Liverpool win the whole thing? No, never in a million years. Like Greece and Porto before them, they simply can't do it.

Funny, becuase id actually take a team of 9 professionals and the long dead cadavers of two talkie-era comedians over your lot in European play :hump:

only joking mate :fool: while they were pretty well worthless yesterday, im not of the mind, unlike seemingly everyone else, that they need to be tossed in the bin.

So one thing I hadnt given much consideration to: This win probably means...
1. Liverpool keep Gerrard: no doubt there in my mind
2. Liverpool retain Carlsberg as a sponsor (there was some rumor they were going elsewhere)
3. Liverpool now become a really attractive spot for some top summer transfers, assuming the board makes some generous cash available. Anyway, win or lose, i think the "Rafalution" is clearly in full swing, even if it hasnt looked so rosy domestically

Well, Drogba, hmm, maybe not. But Kezman? Definitely. One of the biggest flops of the season.

Yes, and i know people are gonna come in here tagging me for it left and right, but ill say it now
1. Drogba is only such a flop in peoples minds because of his absolutely ludicrous price tag. He was maybe worth a little over 10 million, but in my mind, even thats a stretch. Why on gods green earth he was purchased for that price, I will never know, but it was Chelseanomics at its finest, and perhaps it was part of message to demonstrate that the team gets who it wants (though it also demonstrates that you can drive the price up without multiple bidders, and in my opinion, thats even worse). He has been effective from time to time, has bagged a decent number of goals and made an impact most of the time, but only to the extent that its acceptable for a striker of his ability (note his lack of ability to control and create a great first touch) but its a joke for a striker that cost 24-7 million

2. Kezman, in my mind, wasnt much of a flop because he cost "only" 5 million pounds. For that price, hes bagged about 7 or 8 goals, almost entirely as a sub, and after not scoring at all the first 3 months. His numbers from Holland dont lie: hes got class, and I hope he gets the chance to show it. Many were thinking he would be better than Drogba at the start of the season, and I was one of them. I just hope theyre not two forlan's in disguise

Drogba must work on his first touch and control, as well as put a lid on all the bitching to refs (joe cole too). Kezman must stop with the cheap, ticky tack fouls coming back on the play. I like his desire and apparrent heart, but he gets reckless from time to time, especially when he isnt making an offensive impact, and thats detrimental

That Carragher guy is immense. Best center back performance i ever saw in ages. If having the most world class center backs meant something, England would prolly be top of the world now. Rio Ferdinand, Sol Campbell, Carragher and Terry. Not forgetting Ledley King who is also extremely gifted. Eriksson sure is bound for some "headaches".
I don´t know if it was goal or not but i do know that if the referee hadn´t call the goal he would have to give a penalty and sent off Cech. The concept of justice is always relative but i do think that although Liverpool scored one goal and played ultra defensive setup, that they fought like lions and deserve to go through. Almost everyone in Chelsea (some player and Mourinho) were too uninspired to prevent Liverpool´s qualification. I think it was destiny who played a part, after so many set backs during the season (injuries, losing in Carling Cup final, constant Gerrard talk), i think that Liverpool deserved some luck for the rest of their season.
Having said that, i also think that it will be extremely hard for Liverpool to beat Milan´s superside but hey after beating Juventus and Chelsea, who can prevent Liverpool fans from dreaming? Carry on to Istanbul.

would Carragher play like this for the NT though?

He surely doesn't look like a very skilled player, but he looks like the kind of guy that's willing to die for the team and as his life depended on him clearing the ball.

I for one think you aren't praising Garcia enough. He's the one who's been carrying the team with vital goals this season and all I read is Gerrard this, Gerrard that.

yeah Drogba's crazy price tag is the reason! his first touch is so poor sometimes. his second touch is a tackle because his first touch is that bad. :) i dunno how he manages to lose the ball when nobody is near him..

Kezman is quality. just look at his goal record for PSV, man is a finisher!! he has never been given a decent run at chelsea and the 1 through the middle is not suitable for kezman.

About Carvalho i tend to agree with Virgo. The anti-portuguese sentiment blinds most of the views. He was never known by being a dirty player. It was absolutely the opposite. His yellow/red card ratio is surprisingly low for a player with a defensive role. His tackles are sometimes clumsy but he never injured any player seriously. And why mention Samuel now? As i recall he is having a crap season and rumours say that he is going back to Italy which just proves that his season and the satisfaction of the club for his performance, are far from being perfect. Carvalho´s season was reasonable to say the least. He did better than Samuel in the Champions League and won the League with his team at least. Although they play in the same position, they are different players, so i don´t really know why you keep comparing them.
Everyone is entitled to having an opinion but when it comes from confused teenagers with gloryhunter instincts (who support two distinct teams with no correlation or no feeling of identification) you tend to give the importance they deserve which is zero. I also find it surprising that supporters of teams who were eliminated by Chelsea, talk like this team is complete crap. It is crap but it was good enough to kick you out of the most important european competitions tournament.
