UEFA CL- F.C Porto vs. Deportivo [P & R]

My thoughts on the match:

Red Card was justified. Even though it was a love tap, he shouldn't have retaliated like that. It's a given that would be a red card.

And that was a penalty on Ferreira. BUT since Porto built a reputation of diving (from Carlos Alberto), the ref didn't give it. And he was forced to give the yellow card to him as it was either a dive or a penalty. Sort of like the Vieri incident in the WC.

I thought this was gonna be a goal fest but I was wrong. If they play like this again then they shouldn't deserve to win the Champions League.

"Well in the Man Utd game and the Lyon game they were the linesmens fault as well so Porto should in no way feel robbed."
IT WAS A ******* PENALTY!! LOLOL!!

Yes, they shouldn't feel robbed AT ALL having been denied a penalty by the reff. The guy who supposedly was in charge today, but the only thing I saw him take charge of was the crack pipe.

And after seeing Shokz's replay I agree about Andrade, stupid call to make. I didn't see him smiling the first time I had seen the foul. But Deco's reaction to the red wasn't anything. You couldn't tell what he was trying to say to the reff. My fault on that one though. ;)

What the hell are you talking about? How's it stupid? Players do it all the time when they're fouled (or think they were) and there's no call.

I don't know if you ever played football, but I don't really think about anything when I'm fouled and there's no call... It's automatic.

Yea they shouldnt, right now Man Utd should be here instead of Porto but stupid calls from the ref and the linesmen had ended that. I think that justice was served.

Hopefully Depor can kill off Porto which they most likly will becuase it will be at there home and they usually play good there.

Well i just play football with friends and all so there is no ref and if i get fouled i usually just get up:crazyboy: When we play we dont call fouls because some of the people we play with bitch about if it was a foul or not so we just keep playing.

I just think that Deco overreacted thats all.

How do United deserve to be here? How do you know they'd get past Lyon?

I see that you're TRYING to make a valid arguement. But you must see that you aren't.

PS: If United and Lyon fans can whine about bad calls, then I feel Porto can whine about bad calls. :) A bad call is a bad call, doesn't matter which team you are. I can see United fans saying that now justice has been served, but don't get carried away by saying that they can't complain about it.

Aveirenses, just give it up. You guys should agree to disagree and move on. ;)

My take: Porto was hurt by the ref but that doesn't serve as an excuse, at least to me. Justice has nothing to do with it.
And there's no way ManU deserved to be in our shoes. You can only say that if you didn't watch both legs.
If TottiNZidaneR#1 and shokz don't agree, that's fine with me. I can live with it. :)

If anything i put Porto favorites to go through. They only need one away goal then Deportivo have to score twice.

My take on the game...

Awful. I haven't seen Deportivo play for almost 2 years, and can't even believe that was a Spanish football team.

Porto: I wil give them credit for the first time on these boards. They showed up to play, but got hurt by the ref.

HOWEVER

I do not feel bad for Porto at all... They didn't get many calls that they should have, but that's what happens when your team becomes known for acting, diving, cheating...

Think about all the calls they got from diving before this game... their reputation has come back to haunt them.

I hope neither team gets to the finals. Just a disgusting game. And I thought this would be one of the best games to watch all year.

Aveirenses, finally you understood about Andrade being sent off! :)

About the game:

It was poor... Clearly, as Infesta said, Porto was the only team really trying to win, but still their performance was mediocre. Besides, the refereeing was AWFUL, both teams can complain, but Porto was heavily prejudiced, it was almost scandalous at times.

Anyway, this leaves everything open for the next leg. Porto are still favourites, IMO. They only need to score once to put Depor in a very difficult situation. Let's hope we have a much better game in the 2nd leg.

Markus Merk your sun of a....

I´ve never seen a team being robbed in such ways since World cup game between korea and Spain, it´s unbeliavable that this ref can a hurt a team like he hurted today FCP and get away with it. From the 1st minute he showed what were his intentions... There´s no way that FCP could win this match.
Returning to the game, FCP played the worst game in this CL season, we dind´t seem physical fit and we lacked imagination in our play, even so Deportivo clearly came to this game with an intention of getting a scoreless draw and they made it, congratulations for them. I think that the second leg will be very different because deportivo will have to attack and with empty spaces we surely be more dangerous that we have been today. I believe that we still have a strong chance to get to the finals because we didn´t get a goal in our home so i guess that if we play cleverly we´ll surely score the away crucial goal.

Very close mid-field marking and nearly flawless defences are what "ruined" this game for the spectator. I wouldn't say either team played poorly....just because it wasn't a goal fest this time doesn't mean either of these teams aren't worthy of being in a CL semi... like INFESTA said, tactics prevailed here.

It's easy to spot the unexperienced fan when you hear comments like "this game was borring, these teams suck!" ...don't think anyone here said something like this, but I'm waiting for it..

red card on Jorge Andrade was silly, you could clearly see Andrade saying repeatedly "he's my friend" to the ref. obviously a playful tap, but whatever..

Ricardo Carvalho = Galactico! Don't be surprised to see him wearing a Real Madrid or Man. Utd. kit soon enough..

Deco was very mediocre, although he was closely marked. He should get a bit more room in the second leg since Depor will be obligated to open up.

McCarthy was poor too in my opinion, Derlei is 10 times better...not only in terms of finishing, but his off the ball work is what Porto is missing right now.

I think everyone should be giving the ref a break here. I mean neither team made it easy for him to call it all. I think he handled it as best as he or any other ref could. The fact is both teams played very rugged games. It also doesn't help everytime someone on either team for fouled they would start grabbing their shin and have a horrible look of pain on their face only to come back 10 seconds later. I think it is just as easy to blame the players for the bad calls as it is the ref. He goes off what he sees and I think by the time Meirra was fouled in the box the ref really had no clue if it was acting or what. Both teams made it really hard for the offical to call a good game.

Also I understand the tactics invovled for the game but it really looked like the Deportivo had no interest in launching in real attacks. They just wanted to keep a clean sheet away and they did so. The same could be said for Porto who have had trouble keeping clean sheets in the CL. I think both teams at the start would have been happy with 0-0 and that is what the game showed.

As for the return leg who knows the CL is much too wild this year.

Unfortunately, the last 10 minutes WERE the best. However there were sparks of goodplay each half. The thing is that Deportivo really didn't let Porto play football. But payback's a bitch right?(referring to their weekend crap-play against Beira-Mar :p )

Boring match, I wait ages to watch a CL game, and when I do it, it sucks:kader: .
Clumsy refree as well, but he wasn´t supposed to guss wheter a kick is frendly or not.

On the news everyone is saying that this result sucks for Porto.

IMO i think that it suits them better. If they draw 1-1 in Spain then they go through.

The only thing Depor have going for them is home crowd/turf.

I'm still in favour of Porto though.
