Yup, too bad. I really fancied the Aussies to go to the World Cup. Uruguay is not a team I'd like to see, not with players like Morales and Recoba. This was a game full of unsportsmaship from the South Americans' side. Just that thing in the end when Morales gets a slight push from Schwarzer and he falls down like someone had pulled away his feet. He should have been red carded and never have gotten the opportunity to score the deciding 3-0.

No, I feel really sorry that a side like Australia doesn't get the chance to show the world their skills in Korea/Japan. I don't feel happy that Uruguay have got themselves to the cup, I'm just sad that the Australians didn't. This was a loss for football and sportsmanship. Where did the blue players take their ethics course??

Yea, its a pretty sad state of affairs.
Just shows how bogus the whole system is.

Australia's whole campaign depends on only 2 games, one of which we won.

So we lose only 1 game, ONE bad day, and we are out.
Uruguay lost how many games?? 5 or 6, including a defeat by the Aussies yet still make it in?? What a sham.

And please, dont waste our time saying Uruguay is a better team just cuz they won ONE game.

Even the best teams in the world lose games. Look at ManUtd, Liverpool, BayernMunich, Lazio, etc... They ALL lose games. Only their entire campaigns dont depend on ONE game.

I guess we'll have to wait till the competition is a bit fairer.

im sorry.... i know how can only one game change everything....but after all dosn´t matter that aus win 1 and uru 1.
the difference is that uru scores 3......and there´s nothing u can do about it.

and then again.....of course uru lost some games in their eliminatory.... but for COME ON....u are not trying to make a comparation between oceania and conmebol aren´t you?

its anything but fair.
sure Uruguay's opponents were much harder.
But in the end, they did lose alot of games, and hardly scored any goals. But the main thing here is, that they had a chance to make a direct route to the WC.
If they'd played better, won a couple more games, they would have made it in directly.

Not so for Australia. Doesnt matter how well we played in our other games, or even the friendlies (where we drew 1-1 with France and should have won). Basically, 1 game and we're out. Anyone with a brain can see thats not really fair.

And please dont say "ooOOO 3-0! we must be better".

goals in 1 game dont show who is the better team, only who won on the day. Argentina 1 - Uruguay 1 ?? Does that mean Uruguay is just as good as Argentina?? Hardly!!! Argentina is a MUCH better side. The scoreline doesnt always show who is the better team.

Every team has a bad day. Today was ours. And because of a shoddy qualification system, Australia is out.
Uruguay are just lucky thats all.

well, the difference here is that with Uruguay's MULTIPLE bad days, and poor results, you were still able to scrape through in the end.

Australia has only ONE bad day, and we're out.

Congratulations must go to Uruguay, as they did fight strongly in this one game.

What a shame that for Australia though, everything is decided by one game, where-as the rest of the world get a more than a few second-chances.

If aussies would of really wanted it, they'd play better and harder.. Dont get me wrong, aussies have a really good team, im the frist to say it, but, they just didnt hit hard enough...

Take for example Boca-Cruz Azul... Boca won the first game 1-0... Did cruz azul take Boca by saying: ahh its over what the heck... No, they came back and won the second game, in an away field, 1-0... eventually, they lost in penalty... but just goes to show you that they could have won... cause they went with heart...

If I know anything about soccer? Yes, infact I am a reporter on a Swedish fan news site, so I know a thing or two. And I can tell you that the only thing that Uruguay was better at was finishing, indeed a crucial part of the game. And as I said, had Morales been sent off for the play acting he wouldn't have scored the third, instead Australia would have had a one man advantage and may have scored that goal that would've taken them up north.

Sweden took the bronze medal in USA '94, when was the last time Uruguay performed really well at the world champs?
