There are at the time of this post Three pretty good and unbiased match reports at this Aussie venue .......And about the playoff rules and such in regard to who gets a second bite and 'they' are in a bad and weak zone IE:> The Oceana zone, it is up to the clowns at Fifa HQ to sort out that one, but by going from past history they have tried different methods and as yet havn't conjured up anything that seems to be suitable to everyone .. congrats to uruguay... they deserved it really, i personnaly prefer to see a south american side ( defensive though) than those new footballing countries like australia and america who depend on fitness and physical play, which will ruin our world cup......
but that doesnt mean that Australia dont deserve to make it...after all Kewell and viduka are great players who deserve to play at the highest level.......
after all if australia had been defending all day and won 1-0 most of the australians would say completely the opposite of what they're sayin now... and thats the nature of football fans ( no offense intened)
i'd really like fifa to reconsider its allocation of wold cup seats,would u believe that Asia wants 5 spots for next world cup?!!!!
i really would like to see one of those asian teams being plaued against australia or whoever wins their region's qualifiers, this way australia would stand a better chance......australia ain't that strong as i said they're just big and tough with no brains!
maybe playing china or korea would give them a better chance than playing uruguay or bolivia or whoever !

Once again.... We have been dicked by FIFA... I was at both the AUSTRALIA vs IRAn match 4 years ago and the AUSTRALIA vs URUGUAY match a week or so ago...
I honestly believe if we had the same qualifying path as last time... E.g. playing the asian team, then we would be going to JAPAn next year... INSTEAD FIFA shift us around and screw us for all we are worth...
UNTIL FIFA realise that we are emerging as a top 30 country in world football, we will continue to be up in the air about what our chances of ever reaching a world cup are... There needs to be a direct qualification for us through asia, we should become part of the ASIA qualifying system... Scores of 31 nil etc vs AMERICAN SAMOA do us a fat lot of good now...

you had a chance, you play two games, the best team overall wins, if you can't hack it in those two games how do you think you'd have faired in the world cup against the very best teams in the world?
Winning the world cup is damn near impossible for most nations, remember out of all the 180 or whatever countries in the world who compete to go there only 1 ends up winning it, its damn hard to win.
I think if you keep sending your guys over to England to learn their trade like Kewell and the others then maybe next time you may be stronger, you will get there one day.

I think that people who are writing that the best team won, either are Uruguay fans, or just didn't see the game and think that 3-0 says it all.
Even Uruguay fans will admit the Aussies were very unlucky in front of goal, and if it hadn't been for the goalie having the game of his life, Australia would have at least scored once and gone through.
The third goal was a simple consequence of the 2nd, and putting Lazaridis in defense. He made a begginers mistake which no real defender would have made. And had we scored on those clear chances, I believe Uruguay wouldn't have made it back.
Finally, it's only fair to admit that Uruguay were better than the Aussies in defense, and Australia needs to make progress in that domain. They should never have given up a goal so early.
Seriously though, Australia were making most of the play in Montevideo, and played the best overall soccer, apart from a lack of defensive solidity.
Yes, the FIFA system sucks, and Australia are definitely in the top 30 best teams worldwide, only no team can succeed with 2 serious games every 4 years, give me a break !
On top of it all, our best players only play in those 2 games.
