Will Australia's tormentors of 4 years ago strike again? Or will Australia make it to the World Cup for the first time in 31 years, and make Johnny Warren a happy man.

about time this match had a thread. Australia improved a lot since last time they met but I still think Uruguay will get through

Its too bad these countries have to face off, and one of Bahrain and Trinidad & Tobago go to Germany.

I hope the Aussies win, but i think Uruguay will take it.

Is Harry Kewell and Mark Viduka playing?

Viduka is playing as a lone striker which is suiting him great and will be captain. Kewell is expected to start but whatever Guus Hiddink says, goes.

Guus Hiddink

I think Oceania already deserved a direct qualification spot for the WC.
Although Uruguay is my 3rd favourite team from South America, I want Australia to win this one (the qualification, not necessarly this game).

-----------------------------VIDUKA
-----------------KEWELL
CHIPPERFIELD--CAHILL--GRELLA--CULLINA--EMERTON
------------VIDMAR---MILICEVIC---NEILL
---------------------SCHWARZER

supposedly that's how australia will line up.

- bresciano and moore out are HUGE blows.... they are probably the first two i'd name if i was coach
- vidmar starting is really worrying me. he was old and past it IMO years ago, but we don't have that many options.... farina never gave other players any experience and i wouldnt really want untested players starting
- i feel so much more comfortable with kalac in goals than with the error-prone schwarzer.... but for whatever reason kalac isnt first choice

having said that, we have a much stronger side than we had in 2001. and that's without taking into account that guus is now our coach. to be honest, farina didn't have a clue..... players were indifrent to playing and we never really looked too great tactically. since guus has come in, every player seems to know his position and he's got us playing better football than ive EVER seen from the socceroos.

im feeling fairly well about this atm...... i reckon we'll be seeing you all in germany :lui: :hump: :lui: :hump: :lui: :hump: :fool: :jambo: :ewan: :jap:

Kalac should play, look Uruguay are going to most likely play an expansive game and that will mean a lot of crosses, and Kalac is much better in the air.

Thwaite should play instead of Vidmar IMO.

Like it was said before, its a pity these two teams are facing each other in order to go to Germany.

First leg:
2-1 Uruguay

Second leg:
0-0

I hope Australia wins for the sake of SG forums.

This forum would not survive another wave of pasion1's nationalistic threads.

Is pasion1 a mad Uruguayan fan?

Go the mighty Aussies, we were blown away fair and square in 2001. The 2nd leg in 1997 was one of the greatest football matches of all time, the atmosphere then was sensational. This time, I think if we can hold Uruguay to a 1-1 draw, I will be very excited.

The Juve-Uruguay connection is wayyyy to strong for me to root for the Aussies.

the result was very bad, but the atmosphere of the game was brilliant, and the game had everything...that idiot Peter Hore, and it was an amazing comeback led by Khodadad Azizi
