I think its stupid that australia has to play one team in order to qualify for the world cup(solomon islands, fiji, new zealeand are crap, they don't even count).

If Uruguay only had to play australia to qualify for the world cup, and not Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Ecuador and the other quality teams in South America.... how hard would it be for them to qualify? The difference of 2 hard fought games games in comparison to 20 hard fought games. There's a big difference. Uruguay deserve a world cup place more than Australia who were a little bit fortunate considereing what they had to go through instead of uruguay. Australia only deserve a place over Saudi Arabia and Iran, but so does atleast half of Europe, half of Africa and all of south america.

Frankly the conferations of asia and the oceania need a more convincing and deserving qualifying campaign.

Im guessing that if Uruguay only had to play AUstralia to make the World Cup, then theyd lose...Because they DID! All the matches against the strong teams count for nothing except good match practice, something Australia didnt get! Uruguay rocked up after having good quality match practice against Brazil, Argentina, etc yet they still cant beat Australia...

Again, yes Australia have it easy in the group stages (altho thats changing now) BUT we have to WIN our group...Uruguay do have to play Brazil, Argentina etc, but they can afford to lose and finish 5th in the group before they have to play us...One slip up for us in the group stage, and its all over...Asia would have been a better argument for you..Even tho we are part of that confederation now, I always thought they had too many places in teh Cup...4.5 for a Confederation of their strength! That means that sides like Japan, Korea, Saudi Arabia get DIRECT Entry....They can afford to slip up, and they still finish top 4 in asia...The 5th team in asia can make loads of mistakes in qualifying, against sub-standard opponents and THEN get thru to a playoff, fluke a win and go thru...That is unfair more than Oceania...

Australia have been complaining about the qualification system for years, and suddenly the south american team misses out instead of us, and a fuss is kicked up..

Honestly I would've preferred Uruguay, I prefer watching South Americans play over Australia any day.. Just a neutral point of view of mine..
Anyways, whats with all this Uruguay bashing and the "I don't care about what I say about Uruguay because we qualified!!!" attitude? Am not generalising here but clearly some Australian members need to learn to show some respect here to Uruguay..
What if Uruguay scored a second goal on their stadium? I mean that wasn't far away from happening and many Australian fans on this board couldn't believe that their team only lost by 1 goal that day.. Then on your stadium, you've barely managed to score one against a very exhausted Uruguay side lacking some of their stars.. Be thankful that the circumstances have helped you..
Congratulations for making it after 32 years, enjoy it, and have a great time celebrating without adding that extra line in every post that insults Uruguay in one way or another. It's quite obvious how some people here are more happy about Australia defeating Uruguay than the fact that they qualified to the world cup.. Just remind yourselves of how close it could've been the other way round instead of just bashing, bashing and bashing the Uruguay side..

I prefer watching some South American sides play, but Uruguay arent one...They dive, and foul and are qutie a dirty side...Im not saying this as an Australian, but a neutral football fan...Brazil, Colombia, Argentina etc are good to watch and full of flair...Uruguay are a much dirtier side.

As for circumstances helping us, they didnt particularly?? Uruguay made their own bed if you had followed the lead up to the game you'd be aware of that...Australia tried to nmake things fair, Uruguay kept messing us around, so we organised the chartered flight etc...Also Im nto sure if you saw teh games, but teh first game was quite even, and Uruguay were the better side and deserved the 1-0...The 2nd game tho, Australia far out played Uruguay...So if anyone was lucky, they were to even take it to penalties and have a chance...
