Decent Movie IMO

(:/)

It seemed that the main characters got too lucky, but if that is the way the book went I guess I can't complain. I would have like to see a mosr dramatic ending. I give it a B. Not due to Spielberg, but the plot. I should have done more research. It was worth my $5.50. :)

Spielberg does great in this movie. The special effcts and the scenes are incredible. IMO, Dakota Fanning is the best in this movie. She does a superb job playing the little girl. (Y)

Holy Hell.

That's all I have to say, that was truely unbelieveable. The special effects were some of the best if not the best EVER, amazing stuff. The tripods, the aliens, the explosions, fires etc...were absolutely flawless.

The characters were fantastic as well. Not for once did I think about Tom Cruise's crap in real life when I saw him on screen, he was fantastic, he's always been one of my favorite actors but I still thought that whenever I saw him on screen I would think about his real life crazyness but nope not once did that happen. Dakota Fanning...nothing to say here brilliant as always. Tim Robbins was good too but he reminded me a bit of his character from Mystic River.

Best movie I've seen this year (Y)(Y)(Y)(Y)(Y)

'War' takes in $34.6 mil in world debut

Thursday June 30 8:48 PM ET

"War of the Worlds" grossed $21.3 million on its opening day at the box office in North America, distributor Paramount Pictures said Thursday.

The opening day for the PG-13-rated sci-fi thriller directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Tom Cruise proved to be the seventh biggest of all-time for a Wednesday debut and a company best for the distributor.

"We are thrilled. It's an absolute home run for the studio," Paramount distribution chief Wayne Lewellen said. "It's on the high side of what we were hoping for. We wanted to be in the $20 million range."

Sony's "Spider-Man 2" holds the record for the biggest Wednesday opening of all-time, with $40.4 million, followed by New Line Cinema's "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" with $34.5 million. For Paramount, the distributor's previous biggest opening day was for "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider," which gleaned $18.1 million on a Friday in June of 2001.

First-day results of the overseas opening of "War" in 46 countries indicated that the film brought in $13.35 million, overseas distributor United International Pictures said Thursday. The kickoff was said to be marked by numerous personal records for Spielberg and Cruise and new box office achievements for UIP.

The opening-day assault, a day-and-day bow with Paramount's domestic release, did not include such key markets as the United Kingdom, France, Belgium and Korea, noted UIP president and chief operating officer Andrew Cripps.

Early highlights include an opening-day take of $2.8 million in Japan, hailed as UIP's fourth-biggest opening in the market and 37% better than Spielberg's previous offering "Minority Report."

The single-day takeoff in Australia hit $923,057, saluted as the second biggest opening day for a film this year behind "Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith" and the biggest opening ever for both a Spielberg and a Cruise film.

Italy's $1.3 million marked the second biggest opening day ever behind "Matrix Reloaded."

Spain's $1.2 million was rated as Cruise's best ever in the market; and Mexico's $1.3 million as the second biggest Wednesday opening behind "Shrek 2."

"War" opened in parts of Eastern Europe and Russia on Thursday. The film opens in the United Kingdom on Friday, and in France on Monday.

yeah really, this movie is going to be huge. and it's been getting excellent reviews (except for Ebert the Fag :lui:) with everybody from the NY Times to the LA Times to Rolling Stones saying it would run for the Oscar if Spielberg didn't have that other Oscar movie he's releasing at the of the year (a movie about the 1972 Munich Olympics) (Y(Y)(Y)

just back from the movie. the movie is stunning except the ending. i feel speilberg made it way too "perfect", i expect Robbin dead to make the movie "in-perfect". the visual and sound effects made my jaw hits floor, cruise and fannning are brilliant too. seems a lot of peoples miss judge this movie as "human vs alien" type sci-fi movie. peoples are complaning that the alien are boring, less fight scence and ect...besides this movie is focusing on how a family escape from this tragedy.

what i want to know is why tom cruise suddenly has license to really butcher classic sci-fi novels like war of the worlds and minority report. whats more irritating is that half the people who see this film probably won't even know who H.G Wells is. :kader:

we talked about this already (see first pages) so no need to get back on that.

and ngyc, the ending. [SPOILERS] I dont know if I was expecting him to be dead, but I did want to know what happened to him. and what happened in the movie is what happened in the book, so if they would've changed it then the complaints would've be a lot more ;)

War of the Worlds is smart and it has Dakota Fanning, and this little girl rules the world.

What are you talking about??? I would not be suprized if you will say that she must get a medal for her glabal achivements. It doesnot take much to make a smart face on the screen, or look sad. So give a brake, she is not so great :kader: That most what had to say. And also my script in next 4 month will be made into the movie so go check it out. I will write the name of my movie in the next future thus producers did not deside with the name. I rest my case. Take the word from the guy whos script will be made into the movie, and not some kid that rates films that other people made. Goodbye......... (C)
