I would like emphasize the attitude of all german fans clapping Figo when he got on. Great moment in that heartfelt hug btw Kahn and Figo too. Real class from the germans. I always had a good image from german fans and this only contributed even more.

Word.

Actually, all our defense was crap at their job, defending, except Meira, imperial performance. Valente is easily beaten on runs, R.Costa is an absolute blunder, Paulo Ferreira attacks well, but doesn't defend so well...

Yep Meira did shut me up. I was really skeptical when he started playing but he ended up being one of the positive surprises of the Wc.

I'd say precisely the contrary.

and I don't think Costa was as bad as people are saying, but whatever.
Meira had another great game, his performances got better and better as the tournament went on.

Great game, one of the most entertaining since the group stages. It could've had a tense ending if the Portuguese had managed to put away more of their chances. Germany wanted and deserved the 3rd place finish, both teams handled themselves fairly well considering the number of star players benched, but the German defence was poor in the 2nd half, they made Kahn do all the work for his clean sheet but in the end Nuno Gomes was too good. Congrats to Germany and Portugal for making this an interesting world cup.

In the 1990 WC in Italy, Germany won and Italy finished 3rd. Maybe their fortunes are reversed this time round?

Whatever happened, we have to be proud.
Now I'm afraid that all my life I will see Portugal getting far but not winning a thing. We should have won the Euro 2004 against those lucky greeks, damn. :X

P.S: Miguel attacks and defends well. Paulo Ferreira is good at only one of those things. Which one you prefer? Too bad Miguel got injured. If it wasn't for Zambrotta, I would put him on my 11-WC lineup.

congrats to germany...definitely deserved a 3rd place finish in this world cup.

i never thought i'd say i enjoy watching germany play.

and congratulations to the german fans...you guys were great.

as for portugal, i applaud a top 4 finish. this team oozes talent and skills. for what a lot of your players are calling portugal a "small country," two semifinal finishes in four world cup appearances is outstanding. it's a shame that a few players and now a poor reputation has smeared your peformance in this world cup. but nevertheless, congratulations and the future looks bright for portugal football.

good luck to luis figo and his future endeavors. he will go down in my books as one of the finest players in this generation. i was really hoping he could get his first world cup goal.

Good to see Figo get the assist in classic Figo style, even tho I don't like Portugal. His last game for the divers? Probably.

Great game.
Shweinsteiger was superb.
awesome goals.

Pauleta sucked. he should have scored the early chance.
ROnaldo huffed and puffed but couldnt get past kahn.

One thing that has dissapointed me is ronaldo's pathetic dive before half time.
just over some controversy, instead of winning hearts, he dives in the worst possible way. I hoped his 'other incidents' would be forgotten soon but he creates trouble for himself

That dive before half-time was hilarious. The fact that everyone on his team are saying that the boos are unjust and then Ronaldo contradicts them by diving, in a rediculously blatant way.

yeah, I'm even more convinced that Ronaldo is pretty thick headed. It was a dive like many others throughout the WC and in the scope of the game ended up being meaningless, but given his current situation he should have known better.

Maybe he just needs more discipline, maybe something like loaning him out to some mid-table team in Belgium will smarten him up. Who knows.. frustrating.

Seeing that his actions have been brought into the spot light you would of though that he would stop making MEANINGLESS dives. I mean, I could forgive him for trying one in the area, because nowadays it is the smart thing to do, but he would dive anywhere...

Saying that though, he is a great player.
