I could play WE6:I forever but can you imagine how sweet WE7 is gonna be?
Once again you read my thoughts on this series. I played PES and I was like
, then when PES2 came out I was like
! If Konami decided not to make a PES3, I'd be disappointed but there'll still be PES2.
Just finished season 4 on Extreme and managed to win the div2 championship. So now it's on to div1 and playing against the 'big boys'. As I said before, pre-season was a bit of a mess-up. I got rid of Zamorano and Iorga and couldn't get replacements. I went through the season trying to sign a good DMF (Oliseh or Almeyda were my players of choice) but no-one would sign. Sheringham picked up a red injury 3 games into the season so I played half the season with Mpenza and Castello/Huygens/Baroja up front. Chiesa, Asprilla, Klinsmann or Eusebio wouldn't sign for me, when I needed a striker, neither. (I wasn't going to get a retired player but I got peeved when Leverkusen signed Pele and that rule went out of the window, fair's fair)
Sheringham came back and struck up a good partnership with Mpenza but no sooner was he back than Denilson picked up a yellow injury. There was no-way I was going to play more than 1 or 2 games with Ximenes (too slow for div2) down the left. So another desperate bid for Chiesa where I offered him 400+ wages and 4000-5000pts to Firenze for him, but still no luck. I was forced to go for Duff, who I quite like but his attributes weren't great.
Duff was a touch of inspiration, he plays better than his stats (proof that stats aren't everything in this game) and has been a usefull player filling in for Denilson down the left or either of the two forwards when they are tired. In his first match he got sent off after 10mins, terrible start to his Man Utd career. He served his suspension and came back into the team, Denilson still injured, against Liverpool (I find it hard not to take the rivalry into the game so I desperately wanted to beat them), where he scored an the injury time winner in a 2-1 victory. His place in Man Utd history is now set.
Denilson comes back and 2 games later Duff is in for Mpenza. This is the game to win the championship. 10mins left in the match against Kiyv and a weakened team due to tiredness, 1-1. Babangida down the right sends in a long cross that finds Denilson inside the penalty area, near the by line. Denilson, seeing Duff closer to the goal, heads it towards him. From a seemingly impossible angle, with his back to goal, standing close to the corner of the 6yrd area, Duff, in one movement, spins and volleys the ball across the face of the goal and straight into the opposite top corner. It was an absolute beauty, and it looked so realistic. It ended 3-1.
First choice (sub/in order of preferance)
GK: Oscar Cordoba (Ivanov)
CB:Joel Reyes (Sesar/Vorlander/Stromer)
CB: Sesar (Vorlander/Stromer)
RB: Frechaut (Valery)
LB: Quanquina (Eddington)
LMF: Denilson (Duff/Castello/Ximenes/Espinas/Matt)
DMF: Cellini (Vorlander/Miranda)
OMF: Doni (Denilson/Duff/Miranda)
RMF: Babangida (Duff/Castello/Espinas/Matt/Ximenes)
CF: Mpenza (Duff/Castello/Huygens/Baroja)
CF: Sheringham (Duff/Huygens/Castello/Baroja)
A lot of the choice between the 'starter' players comes down to their form going into the game. Say Baroja has a red up-arrow and Huygens is on anything less, Sheringham and Duff are tired, Baroja gets the nod.
Doni has been star man. He had a relatively slow start, but he learned his role quite quickly. I have him in normal 4-4-2 mode but with an attacking attitude so he bursts into the box making a 3rd striker who sits just at the edge of the area making a nuisance of himself. There was a period of about 5 matches where he carried the team, just as the results were beginning to get difficult to come by, he started getting at least a goal and an assist a game, and the goals were stunning. He has around 11 goals and 10 assists.
