Before everyone gets into a pissing match over which league has the most goals, I averaged out the number of goals per match in the 7 most important top flights in Europe and the Championship (I did not include the playoffs featured in the Eredivisie and the Championship).

Italy: 2.52
England (Premier League): 2.45
Spain: 2.43 (after 36 rounds)

According to the commentators the championship is the 4th most watched league in the World ahead of Serie A (H)

Well chuffed for Derby (Steve Howard boyhood Toon fan)

Should I be suprised? I already know that ofcourse. Speaks volumes. AS for Italy having the most goals we know that as well because of the high scoring games and the premiership has been more defensive for the past year or 2. Less goals are scored. But theres still more attacking football than Serie A

That doesnt reflect quality necessarily. I;ve scored an average 2 goals per every game i;ve played locally. Doesnt mean the league is any good. Out of that list England and Italy are strong leagues then any of the rest. That because of the quality of player. Also Spain. Despite ENgland being middle of the list its still most exciting league to watch!

I was only guessing... but 2.25 goals in french ligue matches still seems too much.

Lille 2-0 Sochaux
Valenciennes 0-0 Marseille

Lorient 0-0 Monaco
Troyes 0-0 Nancy

hehe :D

If sochaux and auxerre had played at home we would have seen only 0-0...

I only took this season's statistics into account, but if you want me to do it over a set period of time, 10 or 20 years, then maybe I'll look into it.

I wouldn't waste your time as statistics don't really prove anything. At the end of the day it all comes down to personal opinion.

Got the numbers for the Dutch second division, bro? 'Cause that's where it's at.....I swear, they average like a touchdown worth of goals per game in that league.

Their concept of defence over there is pure offense.......*In a thick Dutch accent*...."How can they score on us if the ball is always in the back of their net?"

3.04 goals per game this season.
