The Myth of Sisyphus - Camus
The Great Gatsby - Fitzgerald
The Complete Sarah Kane
Lord of the Flies - Golding
Enjoyed them. Loojed forward to Camus the most and was kinda disappointed because it didn't elaborate much on the issues that interested me. Sir_Didier_Drogba, have you ever seen a Kane play live? They sound interesting.
Gonna have a year-round American lit class next year so I bought some of the texts in advance. Have to read a short story by Poe, Melville, Faulkner and Hemingway, can't remember which. I got lare, collected stories editions thpugh, if anyone (now Shifty's back especially) got any recommendation for one I might like.
Also, we'll have to link one of the works we study to any other i. existence in an essay. I like the idea of discussing the 'failure' of the American Dream in Gatsby. Anyone know any novel that deals with that (or perhaps glorifies it)? I figure Steinbeck and Arthur Miller might from my rexollection of them. Can someone confirm? Any other suggestions or ideas?
The Canadian dream is a much more modest. For America it's "work hard and you can be anything you want to be", in Canada it's "work a tiny bit and you can afford your pot".CarlosDanger;3524458 said:The American dream is such a lie fed to the peasants by the elite to keep them in their place.
