Yes they are. As are most eastern Europeans it seems. Except they never smile.

I hear that you are considered untrustworthy in Russia if you smile a lot. They would think I was the biggest liar on earth.

Actually Eastern-Europeans laugh a lot and loud, we just need a shot of vodka first, alternatively we need to see our neighbour do bad, that always cheers us up.

Not saying you don't laugh, saying you don't smile...but I have a Bulgarian friend who says eastern Europeans have it right, and we have it wrong, ie. He smiles when he is happy, not when he is content.

I think a smile can be a powerful thing, but I probably smile too often. Just like everything, it means more when it doesn't happen as often.

lol :( Actually everytime someone makes a commie joke about the post-soviet countries, including Russia, I wish there was some truth about it. The way people glorify the nazi-Germany as liberatros is really sad. Everythin leftist is being stigmatized as pro-stalinist. If you actually are a leftist, or god forbid, a marxist, Eastern-Europe is a hell to live in. To some extent I do understand both - the hate towards left and sympathy towards opposition of the USSR bud I'd actually call the Soviet Union state-capitalist or an extremly failed experiment of authoritarian socialism. The original ideas of marxism and communism was really hard to find in the Soviet Union. Now we're in a situation where even the poor working class chooses to vote for conservative or neoliberal parties, because voting for the commies (that socialdemocrats are considered here) is a step back into Russia. Not to mention the ammount of racism, xenophobia etc in people's heads. Like Germany and the guilt they feel for their history has affected the ways they choose to treat neo-fascism there, we have it reverse and decided to bag the leftists. That can even be seen in Russia itself, while the government honours the red army and the vets, the current leftists are being marginalzied...

Didn't mean to write this, really :D

Not a big smiler either. I remember all the school photos, when the photographer is trying to make me smile, but it just feels unnatural to me. I'll smile, if I have something to smile about. Not because you're taking a picture and think I should smiling in it.
