What happened to football?

I've been playing football against a tennis fence for the past year. The last time I played football for a team I was in 6th grade. I can't find a team anywhere. When I lived in upstate New York, this was acceptable...because not a lot happens there. Not that I live in a real city I still can't find ****. I go to the school field and adults play there. They have their own forms, referees, fans, everything. These are people treating it as if they played for a professional side when they just play after work. What the hell is up with that? I can't find a team anywhere. I thought football was a game where you needed nothing. I thought football didn't make distincitions between you being young, old, tall...whatever. To play on a school team you have to train for 3 hours a day. Train 3 hours a day instead of studying for a ******* school team.

**** this game.

Where do you live? I live in Nice, France, and there are lots of amateur teams who take youth players (like myself) on, in fact im going to join one where I don't have to train like a pro, as I have schoolwork to do! (and thus can't train 3/4 hours a day)

I live in Connecticut...America.

Here they force high school kids that if they want to play on a team they must train for 3 hours a day and weightlift and they make such a big ******* deal about matches.
I can't find any recreational leagues here now.

well in high school of course they're gonna make you work out for 3 hours a day. thats just the way it is. how old are you? there should be a rec league at the very worst. the dc metro area has plenty of soccer going on. my sister has played soccer basically constantly since she was 5, going from rec league to travel/club, high school, had an offer to play college, then played for an adult rec league when she was about 17-18. and now she coaches little kids team in charlottesville and also plays in an adult rec league.

in my town theres a mexican adult league. all the teams are like "sao paolo" "america" and theres even a goddamn "el salvador de herndon"

of course they all pay for their uniforms and ****. if you just wanna kick around instead of really playing then get your friends to play jeez.

anyway, you sound like a whiner. all people who play soccer at a serious level train at least 2+ hours a day.

You think 3 hours is too much? It's enough practice, IMO.

The drills should be better, Americans don't know how to set-up effective drills, unfortunately...

depends really. my new coach is a former coach with southampton and of some team in the jamaican league. looks pretty good. and i know the type of drills you european people set up. not really that different.

edit: i said this in response to the portugese guy. anyway, even so, the players must have trained independent of the high school team with a club or something.

I have to train 2+ hours a day to play soccer at a serious level? You've got to be ****ting me. I can go outside and kick a ball around for enjoyment for an hour, but to do runs and drills for 2 hours a day for people who do not play professional is outdoing idiocy.

My entire point was that I want to play soccer "seriously" but I'm not going to play professionally, and neither will you or any of the others that train 2 hours a day to play "seriously". I was saying that there are no more oppurtunities for people like me that just want to play for fun.

I have no friends here because I moved 2 weeks ago...and surely you're not expecting me to gather 10 people at the same time to kick a ball around? I'm 16.

I think that coaches that make high school kids train for over an hour a day are commiting an atrocity against their education and schools should get rid of these "serious" sports (you know, for all the soon to be professionals ()).

Football is a game to be taken seriously if you play at a level where you make money. Football 80 years ago was not at this level. What happened to playing football for fun?

I am sure I have the quality to play on a "serious" team without training for 2+ hours a day...because I want to have fun.

To me it sounds that all you do is play sport.

Maybe Conn is just screwed up... When I was younger I played 20 hrs a week just picking up games in the park, unused stadiums, beach etc.

Sometimes it is hard to find games in the US, but if you are persistant you will find what you want.

Upstate NY sucks monkey-balls. There's more then enough soccer in Northern Virginia, because of all the Hispanic people. I live near an elementary school and it has like 4-full length soccer fields with real goals :p The field ain't that great though. Better than nothing at all..

You know why? Americans are scared to learn from europe. Countries like Japan, and Korea, bring in foriegn coaches to teach, they learn and preach what they see. America has to do everything their way, change cricket to baseball, and rugby to football.

If america took the effort they'd know what they're doing.
