Why did they change the gameplay for PES4?

Hello Guys,

Long time lurker, first time poster.

Got PES4 today after insanely playing through 10 Master League seasons in PES3 within the last week after a long gaming hiatus.

I thought PES4 was going to be great, but does anyone else feel they stuffed up the gameplay?

The players feel 'rubbery & arcadey' (very suprised Eurogamer.net didn't say this in their review) also the computer AI is cheap because if you try to dash down the wings, no matter how slow or tired your chaser is, he will chase you down.

Bit disappointed to be honest, feel like PES3 was more of a 'tactical' game, I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Many Thanks.

The ML doesn't totally Blow :|

Ok, maybe sometimes the rate at which players get worse, and how they stop developing at a certain age could do with some improvement, but it does make it more realistic than pes3, where you players stayed exactly the same unless it was one of those youth guys you could buy, which you could easily turn into superstars.

So why do you PES Fans, constantly try to convince people that the game is the BEST thing since sliced bread ? .... :kader:

Like i,ve already said, Both PES & FIFA are far from being Perfect..

Yea, none of those 2 are perfect, but imo FIFA is miles behind, the only thing I like about FIFA is the licenses, thats all..

PES/WE aint exactly the best game out, but its the best football game, it has big glitches, and the cheating AI makes the game **** half the time, but its better than playing FIFA.

The way I see it, each year FIFA takes a step back.

Admitting that they still have there fair share of faults ...
I personaly think that Fifa & UCL have taken a step Forward this year, in gameplay. Especially UCL ...

Guys,

I'm playing PES4 now, and my comments still stand, it would've been perfect if they had just let the gameplay stay the way it was in PES3.

For the record, I bought FIFA2005 (demo got me hooked) and returned it the next day.

Don't get me wrong, I am not biased, PES3 was the first PES I had, I've been a FIFA fan since 'Road to the World Cup 97', and Fifa 2005 is the best Fifa released, I think their career mode has alot going for it.

But, as I sat there playing Fifa2005 drunk off Corona's and still managing to make lil' Southend United score at least 2 goals every game without fail, I released that although EA are taking notes from Konami, they still have a way to go.

Back to Konami though, I haven't played Master League yet but if your players age, that's good, Castolo was 28 for a LONG time guys. ;)

Still don't know why they changed the gameplay though, glad others think it's arcadey too and it's not just me. :kader:

Fair enough mate, but i will ask the question of what level you were playing Fifa on ? ....
I doesn,t sound like you were playing on Pro or WC.
I will also say that Semi Pro, will give you a decent game at times.
Depending on the level of your opposition ...

hey BJ

I had the same sort of thing. I had played Pes 3 way too much and when I first played Pes 4 I was a little disappointed too. But it just takes time to get used to it, just as it took me time to get used to pes 3 when i had been playing fifa for about 6 years.

Now that I'm used to Pes 4 for quite a while now I love the game. Multiplayer is 10 ten times more fun than ML btw.

if you think fifa is so great, then go play it. it seems to me that fifa already got boring since you're here posting and arguing which game is better 24/7. Du behindertes kind. Du kannst mir eine blasen du Hurensohn.

Hi Panna,

I've been playing it alot (Serie A league - not ML yet as I want to get 2000 PES points to restructure the leagues) and I am warming up to it, but I still say the AI is incredibly cheap if you even 'think' about going near the sideline, some midfielder on crack will chase you down and dispossess you.

Shaft,

I can't recall whether it was semi or pro, I'd probably guess semi as normally I am doing alot of other things while playing games so I like a 'laid back game' (for example, while I play PES on my small TV in my room, I am also surfing the net and trying to learn Spanish).

I wouldn't buy Fifa2005,but when I traded in games to get PES, I could've got fifa2005 at around half price, but chose not to, mainly because I can't really justify having two big football games, one would get neglected, and yes it would be Fifa.

But ... I will say, I love the opening commentaries on Fifa, I recall in 2004 they said something like "Arsenal are going to be moving to their new stadium but at the time being are still at Highbury" ... that's class.

PES Is getting better with the commentary but having an español track (even though the only word I understand is "gol!") but Konami really have to have commentators who make proper comments.

My dream ... PES5 = Martin Tyler for English commentary!!! ;)
