Why did they change the gameplay for PES4?

I had the same sort of thing. I had played Pes 3 way too much and when I first played Pes 4 I was a little disappointed too. But it just takes time to get used to it, just as it took me time to get used to pes 3 when i had been playing fifa for about 6 years.

Now that I'm used to Pes 4 for quite a while now I love the game. Multiplayer is 10 ten times more fun than ML btw.

I thought PES3 was brilliant...and when I first played PES4 I was a little bit disappointed, it was still good but to me it seemed that they had just 'changed' things for the sake of change, where as I expected them to simply tweak the problems with PES3.

But after sticking with it for a while, and now playing Multiplayer, I admit that my first impressions were totally wrong. PES4 is MUCH better!! Not only did they tweak the problems with pes3 but they took it a whole load further. I am still seeing new animations every time I play and just like all the previous games, the more you play it and the better you get, the better IT gets.

The biggest test was going BACK to pes3 just to compare... it's feels SO clumsy and restrictive compared to Pes4. P4 is more fluid, a little more frantic and less frustrating. ...more enjoyable by far.

my thoughts exactly ;)

still pes 4 has its glitches. The referee definetly improved with a better advantage system but he makes some real weird calls sometimes. So konami gotta work on that for Pes 5. They gotta work out the advantage system even more. You'll know how it works.. with the yellow icon top left corner on the screen.
problem is that when i pass to a player of my team and the players that passed it gets tackled, the system seems to think that i lost posession and gives me a free kick while i should have advantage..

and the ref makes wrong calls on throw ins far too much as well

Yeah, actually, throw-ins in general do need some more work. You kind of have to direct your man before you throw it, and it seems to take an age to face him the right way. Not sure what is wrong with the thow-ins but it just don't feel "right", often I end up accidently throwing it to the opposing team. Maybe I just gotta get used to it more. Anybody else thinks the throw-ins need some tweaking?

the nearest to perfect football game to date - yes.

But until photo-realistic "matrix" virtual-reality type football games exist then nothing is going to be 'perfect'. gees, I don't even think REAL football is perfect!

yeah throw-ins annoy the crap out of me.. that's actually something that was better in Pes 3.. and it sucked back then.
