Winners and Losers of the Summer 2013 Window

Look at the fees they went for, us wanting Higuain is like Arsenal wanting Messi

Sevilla brought in 90 million euros in selling Navas, Negredo, Medel, Kondogbia, and Luis Alberto. Two of those players were homegrown and the other three cost a total of 21 million, so a ~70 million euro of pure profit. Only ~20 million of that was spent on new players, and I'm certain that those new players will sell for far more in 2-3 years. WINNERS.

We apologize for keeping the yellow too long
Yellow Card
Winners:
Juventus (#2) and Tottenham (#1). Arsenal, not bad after all.

Losers: Manchester United - Marouane Fellaini ain't the real deal.

Everton. Pretty much improved the whole squad without having spent much.
Everton turned a profit! Very good window for them and I expected them to get desecrated, even without Fellaini they are better than they were before. The Barry and Lukaku loans are inspired.

Southampton did well to get Osvaldo and Wanyama, who were linked to bigger clubs.

EPL, not just taking into account who teams bought but who they managed to keep:

Arsenal - Fairly Good
Aston Villa - Good
Cardiff - Good
Chelsea - Fairly Good
Crystal Palace - Mediocre
Everton - Very Good
Fulham - Fairly Good
Hull City - Who cares?
Liverpool - Good
Manchester City - Good
Manchester United - Bad
Newcastle United - Bad
Norwich City - Very Good
Southampton - Very Good
Stoke City - Mediocre
Sunderland - Fairly Good
Swansea - Very Good
Tottenham Hotspur - Should have been better
West Brom - Fairly Good
West Ham - Fairly Good

Much more good than bad, anyway.

Norwich have been absolutely awesome, considering that until last year they were still full of British try-hards from the lower leagues and now they have some top class players from clubs like Lazio, Galatasaray and Sporting. For players like van Wolfswinkel and Fer to come to Norwich really is a big thing. Also Gary Hooper is a very smart signing. Should aim for top half.

Newcastle are the big losers IMO they didn't do shit in the window except loans.

Everton did very well but there was no way they were getting Fernando from Porto.

I kind of get it with Newcastle, they did their business last January and still need to gel those players together. It is still not a particularly glamorous beginning to Joe Kinnear era number two.

There are two types of elephant, the Asian elephant and the African elephant (although sometimes the African Elephant is split into two species, the African Forest Elephant and the African Bush Elephant).
