well even if Portugal wins against Iran and Mexico, Angola would have to recover 4 goals in average to go through.

So the possible results would have to be at least:

Angola 3 - Iran 0
Portugal 1 - Mexico 0

Angola 2 - Iran 0
Portugal 2 - Mexico 0

Angola 1 - Iran 0
Portugal 3 - Mexico 0

meaning that due to their goal average Mexico is as good as qualified if Portugal wins tomorrow.

Which team would you guys rather see Portugal play in the knockoff stages: Argentina or Holland? Oh and btw Christian Ronaldo has some new fans: http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20060614/en_afp/fblwc2006gay

Argentina looks unplayable at the moment.

I'd rather play Holland but i'm not too confident as we're due a defeat with them for a long time now, because we've been screwing them in the last few years in every chance we had.

We did beat them clearly with roughly the same team just 2 years ago though and they had a more experienced team than the current one, for what that's worth.

Uhh... Argentina today looked like the Soviet Union ice hockey team in the early 80'S... they were unbeatable...and the combinations were out of this world.

But if someone scores a quick goal against Argentina...we don't know how they can handle pressure. In last world cup they had even more impressive material than now... and they cracked under the pressure.

Their attack is scary....but the goalkeeper haven't been tested yet. I heard a rumour that he's not very good at stopping penalties. Can anyone confirm this...? Someone mentioned that he screwed up a Copa America for them.

Portugal is a great team and I root for them. Let's hope they'll get Netherlands. Dutch defense looks very fragile at times.

I don't fear Argentina nor the Netherlands, I worry more about teams like Iran. We can pull a win out of our asses against big countries, but it's against the underdogs that we tend to have sh!t performances.

I don't fear Argentina either... if Portugal is to play against them, Portugal will take the game very seriously and the outcome of that game could be very unpredictable, altho i recognize Argentina's might... Portugal on paper, is not one of the most probable contenders to win the WC, but it's in the group of the 10 strongest NT's... so, if they're not consistent enough to win Argentina, then for me it makes no difference if Argentina defeats them in next round, or in the Final... well, not that i don't want Portugal to get to the final, because that's what i want most, but on the road, they'll have to prove they deserved it, by beating one of the big guns (for me: Argentina, Italy, Brazil or Germany)...

yeah, I think Germany will be difficult to beat for anyone, even Brazil. Personally I haven't seen these so-called defensive problems the Germans have, they seem fairly solid.

Anyways, 10 mins to kick-off. Let's hope the real Portugal comes out today, the Angola game was a lot harder than it should have been :(

the ref is f*cking us in the ass completely. Not only that challenge on Figo didn't warrant the Iran player even a yellow card, but the ref also keeps stopping play because of unexisting fouls by our players.

There were already 2 signalled on C.Ronaldo where he didn't even TOUCH the Iran player.

F*king ref. They smash the foot on Figo's head, and the ref is nowhere to give a card. You can't put the leg that high.
And then he gives a yellow card to Pauleta that no one understands. And then the Iranians don't have legs for Figo or Ronaldo and fall down. The refs stops and gives freekick to Iran.

Nothing too polemic, but gets on your nerves.

Overall, we are playing fine. We had some 3/4 chances we could have scored. Iran had 0 (they that off-side one, it was clearly off-side). But the goal is missing.

Well if you keep playing like this like now against Iran bring on Portugal is what I say :-paul:
Don't think because you beat us before that you will easily now, Ivory Coast played much better yesterday than Portugal today and in the end we are through and they are not. I think we can beat Portugal this time.
I really don't care if we meet Mexico or Portugal cause our main goal now is quarterfinals! But please keep underestimating us by all means

Sh*t refereeing. ******* french bastard. I thought we were the divers, but look at Iran's players. And the ref awards them free kicks.. :nape:

No card is shown in counter attack plays where some iranian player stops it by making a foul.
