World Cup Stories

Knight Saber

Senior Squad
I had an idea, how about every one posts there World Cup stories.
I'll start, this is my France squad, in Japan/Korea World Cup 2002... and I can say we did better than the real French squad.:D

MATCH 1: Chile VS France

The first match started pretty well, play was going well for both sides, a yellow card being
shown to Sagnol and Henry. 0-0 at half time.
At half time, Trezeguet came onto the pitch for Pires. In the 49th minute, Henry took a long short, and scored, making it 1-0 to France.
10 minutes later, Micoud scored a goal, making it 2-0 to france.

FINAL SCORE: Chile 0-2 France

MATCH 2: France VS USA

It didn't take long for France to break through, only 5 minutes in, Cisse got into the area and was brought down, gettinga penalty, and scored it, sending the keeper the wrong way.
The rest of the half was split either way.
At half time, Silvestre replaced Lizarazu, who was tired.
In the 53rd mintue, Viera scored from a free kick from Petit.
Six minutes later, Petit got his first yellow card, and 5 minutes later, Trezeguet had to leave the pitch, injured.
The rest of the match went quickly, but, in the dieing seconds, Henry took a long shot, and sent it into the back for the net.

FINAL SCORE: France 3-0 USA

MATCH 3: Norway VS France

This match was Frances' most tough match. 12 minutes in, Runar Berg recieved a yellow card, and four minutes later, Henry scored another goal from a freekick.
Then, in the 32nd minute, Thuram did a careless tackle, and recieved a yellow card.
In the 36th, Micoud recieved a pass, and took on the entire Norway defense, dribbling them all, and scored a goal. Viera and Makalele recieved yellow cards in the time left over in the half.
In the second half, Norway came back onto the pitch, fighting hard.
Nothing came though, until the 64th minute, when Carew scored, and one minutel later, Ole Gunnar Soljkaer scored and equaliser.

FINAL SCORE: France 2-2 Norway

MATCH 4: France VS Poland

Compared to the other matches, this match was rather un-eventful, no cards being shown, and only one goal being scored, coming in the 46th minute by Johan Micoud, who had a good tournament.

FINAL SCORE: France 1-0 Poland

MATCH 5: France VS Uruguay

This was one of the tougher matches, neither side scored a goal, until Petit broke through in the 83rd minute, scoring.
This was though to win the game for France, but one minute from time, Uruguay managed to break away, and scoreda goal, 1-1 after 90 minutes, sending the match into extra time.
Fifteen minutes after the restart, Robert Pires managed to sneak a goal past keeper, Fabian Carini, and win the match.

FINAL SCORE: France 2-1 Uruguay (Extra Time)

MATCH 6: France VS Italy

This match was thought to end up being the hardest match that would be played in the tournament, but ended up being a easy and simple match. Only three minutes in, Henry managed to get a header on target from a corner, and sent it into the net, making it 1-0 to France.
Two minutes later, a cross was sent to David Trezeguet, and he let it bounce, before sending it rocketing into the back of the net. 2-0 to France, only 6 minutes gone.
Then, after exactly ten minutes, Trezeguet once again finds himself on the recieving end of a cross, and sends the ball home again, 3-0 after 16 minutes.
Not much happened for 10 minutes, but then in the 31st, Silvestre sends in a cross to Cisse, who goes to center the ball, but makes a mistake, but it deflected off of him, into the post, and in, making it 4-0.
The rest of the half nothing happend, just passing around.
In the second half, France were laid back, and Italy were on the attack, and managed to break through once, scoring from Vieri.

FINAL SCORE: France 4-1 Italy

MATCH 7- France VS Turkey

This match was the hardest of them all, though it didn't start that way, with Sagnol scoring for France in the 6th minute. Three yellow cards were shown in 10 minutes, two to two french players, one to a turkish player.
Six minutes from half time, Okan managed to score for Tureky, making it 1-1.
Right after half time, Cisse managed to score, making it 2-1 to france.
In the 67th minute, Micoud, who was having a great tournament, scored a third goal, 3-1, and looking good.
Then, just under 10 minutes later, Zafer was brought down in the area and recieved a pentalty...scoring it.
3-2, roughly 15 mins to go.
From then, France played defensivly, passing it about.
Then, after 4 minutes of Extra Time, it was over.
France won the World Cup.

FINAL SCORE: France 3-2 Turkey

Hi, I don't usually bother with international management because I hate all the waiting around, so I've only done two world cups. I made the Semi's with England but I'll tell you about my game with Nigeria.

I didn't win the WC but I did alright considering the side.

MATCH 1: Paraguay vs NIGERIA

Match started badly, with defender Rabiu Afolabi getting a straight red after 7 minutes. I substituted Garba Lawal for Isaac Okoronkwo to make up for the lack of the centre-back. My problems got worse as left-back Taribo West was issued a yellow for a late challenge. I managed to score first, however, through Jay Jay Okacha after 43 minutes. Joseph Yobo picked up a yellow just before half-time but I was 1-0 up. Another yellow-card was issued after 56 minutes to forward Pius Ikedia. I was beginning to worry that I might live to regret my poor discipline later. Why do I always have all my players tackle hard? After 72 minutes disaster struck - Roque Santa Cruz scored for Paraguay - oh no. Ikedia got sent off for a second yellow card to mark a slightly disappointing opening match. FINAL SCORE: 1:1

MATCH 2: NIGERIA vs Spain

This would prove to be a tough one, but to my surprise I found myself 1-0 up after just 3 minutes through Julius Aghahowa. Spain quickly equalised after 17 minute through Diego Tristan but I scored in the 37th minute via a Babayaro penalty to go into a 2:1 lead at half time. My spirits were quickly lessened by two yellow cards just 5 minutes into the second half: for Yobo and Kanu. Babayaro, the second goal scorer also picked up a yellow in min 70. Spain missed several good chances before I wrapped the game up with a 83 minute goal from Justice Christopher. Spain managed to pick up a penalty in the 89 min which Hierro scored but it was two late and I won the game. FINAL SCORE 3:2

MATCH 3: Saudi Arabia vs NIGERIA.

What can I say. A push over. Saudi didn’t get a single shot on goal all game, while I scored once in the first half and twice in the second half. (Kanu, Okacha and West respectively). Thge only down point was an unfortunate red card for Lawal and a yellow for Aghahowa. FINAL SCORE 0:3.

2ND ROUND: NIGERIA vs Turkey.

Tough, but manageable fixture. No goals in a thoroughly boring first half. The Turks managed to pick up a yellow and an injury to Yobo was the only event for my Nigeria side. My break- through came early in the second half with a 51 minute gaol by Kanu. Babayaro picked up a yellow meaning he would miss the next match. I though I had the game won but Emre scored for Turkey in the 87 minute to take the game to extra time. Extra time did not last long, however, and Kanu managed to pick up his third tournament goal to progress me into the quater-finals.

QUARTER-FINALS: Germany vs NIGERIA.

Quite a test this one. I very quickly found myself behind courtesy of Carsten Jancker and having the game completely taken to me. I managed to hang on until the 30 min when Schnieder got red-carded in the box leaving me with a penalty. I was, however, without penalty takers Yobo and Babayaro so I had to rely on Kanu. I held my breath as he stepped up, and there was no mistake. Fortune smiled upon me in the second half as both Jancker and Klose picked up injuries, and Kahn was sent off leaving them with 9 men. Unfortunately they did have a substitute goalie, but the game was mine for the taking and I took it. Kanu notched his 5th of the tournament (Golden Boot flashed through my mind) and Okacha scored to round off an excellent victory. FINAL SCORE: 1:3.

SEMI-FINAL: Brazil vs NIGERIA.

When I realised I would be playing Brazil my spirits lessened. My squad was nearly at full strength, the exception being Lawal who had been injured during training. In the first half I managed to contain the mighty South Americans, the only incident being a yellow card for Aghahowa. The second half kicked off, without me having yet had a shot on goal and Brazil 11. In the 71 min Aghahowa went down in the box and I was awarded a penalty. I held my breath as Babayaro stepped up - missed! Oh no! I knew that would probably be my only chance. Several words escaped my mouth at this point. Idiot was one. ****ing hell was another. The match just got worse as Aghahowa received a second yellow and got sent off the pitch. I did, however, manage to hold on til extra time but I knew I needed some magic fast. I decided to try the young John Utaka whom had been included in my subs for the first time. He ran on the pitch as I clicked ‘Continue Game’. Immediately Brazil came at me. Armoroso missed a sitter and Half Time Extra Time left me very worried. I clicked continue game. To my amazement the commentator said that they had ‘taken their foot off the gas a little’. I was delighted when penalty-taker 3 Elber was sent off on the 118 min. The match went to penalties, Brazil having had 21 shots on goal, me having had 2. Ronaldo stepped up for Brazil - Scored. Babayaro for Nigeria - Missed! Again! Armoroso for Brazil - Missed! Yobo for Nigeria - Scored! 1-1 after two penalties each. Rivaldo for Brazil. Scored! Kanu for Nigeria. Scored! 2-2 after three. Substitute Ronaldinho for Brazil - Missed. Okacha for Nigeria - Scored! I found myself ahead after four penalties. All was quiet as Cafu stepped up for Brazil. Scored! So, I needed a final penalty to win the game and go through to the final. It was Christopher.SCORED!!! NIGERIA THROUGH TO THE FINAL!!! FINAL SCORE 0:0p

FINAL: NIGERIA vs Italy.

This was it. One more game and Nigeria were champions of the world! The first 15 mins were quiet, but Italy broke me after 16 via Vieri. I quickly found myself 2:0 behind after 27 mins as Montella scored. The score-line remained the same at half time, but my men came out fired up and took one back through Kanu. His 6th of the tournament! Vieri was currently inline for the golden boot with 8. After 56 mins Nesta was sent off for Italy leaving them a man short in defence. After 67 mins Kanu equalised!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One more and we would be world champions. The game was tight approaching full time. I was planning my extra-time strategy when suddenly Italy were awarded a free kick. Up stepped Totti. GOAL!!! Italy took the lead with 3 mins remaining. My men tried, and I had a couple more shots on goal but the final whistle went leaving me World Cup Runner Up. FINAL SCORE 2:3.
