The team I picked for this is:
GERMANY
The Year the World Cup is in:
2006
The Host Nations:
GERMANY
I got drawn into a group with England, Cameroon and Canada.
GROUP STAGE:
Germany vs. Cameroon
Klose kicked it off, along with Zickler up front. We opened the scoring in the 5th minute, with Michael Ballack crossing in a corner and Klose converting it with his head
for the 1-0 lead. That is what we needed. Ten minutes later, Deisler fell to the ground and looked like he was injured! I had to sub him off very early in the game. It stayed 1-0 in the first half. It was a boring half with only 3 shots on goal for me and 1 for Cameroon. I took off Zickler and put on Haas. It was a good substitution, because Haas scored two goals and sealed us a 3-0 win over Cameroon. It was a good start for us.
FINAL SCORE: Germany 3-0 Cameroon
1:0 Klose (6')
2:0 Haas (74')
3:0 Haas (78')
The other match: ENGLAND 0-0 CANADA
Standings after Day 1:
1) GERMANY ~ 3 pts.
2) CANADA ~ 1 pts.
3) ENGLAND ~ 1 pts.
4) CAMEROON ~ 0 pts.
England vs. Germany
England didn't do too well against Canada and needed points here badly! I didn't have Deisler from begin on, because it looked like he would be injured for two weeks. He would come back in the Quarter Finals if we ever get there. The only change I made was Haas for Zickler from begin on and what a change it was. This was probably the fastest goal ever! The game kicked off and my team had the ball. A cross in the first minute was converted with a beautiful volley for the 1-0 lead. Michael Owen would then shock us. In the 37th minute, he tied it all up, and in the 39th minute, it was 2-1 for England. Owen had scored both goals. The half was coming to an end and we wanted to tie it up. Ballack fell in the box and got the penalty in the 45th minute. He himself stepped up and hit the crossbar. The rebound would be saved by the goalie. We had our chance.... out HUGE chance to tie it up. I subbed Haas off at the half and put Zickler on. Until the 78th minute, Zickler wasn't doing anything good. That is when he scored a very nice goal from 23 meters out. It was 2-2. England was coming closer to another draw, but for us it would go OKAY. With their last bit of energy, they pushed forward. Beckham to Owen, back to Beckham, goes by two players.... all alone.... and scores! The 88th minute marked this goal and England was up 3-2. Unbelievable!
FINAL SCORE: England 3-2 Germany
0:1 Haas (1')
1:1 Owen (37')
2:1 Owen (39')
2:2 Zickler (78')
3:2 Beckham (88')
The other match: CAMEROON 1-3 CANADA
Standings after Day 2:
1) CANADA ~ 4 pts.
2) ENGLAND ~ 4 pts.
3) GERMANY ~ 3 pts.
4) CAMEROON ~ 0 pts.
These standings would mean that Cameroon had been eliminated. In another group, Italy lost 4-0 to Poland!!!
Canada vs. Germany
Canada did very well up to now, and didn't want to ruin that by losing to us. That wouldn't be, because we beat them 5-0 easily!
FINAL SCORE: Canada 0-5 Germany
0:1 Klose (44')
0:2 Haas (58')
0:3 Haas (69')
0:4 Metzelder (84')
0:5 Haas (90')
The other match: ENGLAND 2:1 CAMEROON
Standings after Day 3
1) ENGLAND ~ 7 pts.
2) GERMANY ~ 6 pts.
-----------------------------
3) Canada ~ 4 pts.
4) Cameroon ~ 0 pts.
In the Round of 16, we would face Holland.
HOLLAND vs. GERMANY
I didn't like this game, because it can be described in one little statement: holland 4-1 germany
FINAL SCORE: Holland 4-1 Germany
0:1 Haas (69')
1:1 Van Nistelrooy (77') pen/
2:1 Van Nistelrooy (79')
3:1 Van Nistelrooy (84')
4:1 Van Nistelrooy (89')
It was very sad. And the reason for why we lost, was because Kahn got a red card and it started off with Van Nistelrooy converting a penalty in the 77th minute and then it started. We could have won, but my reserve goalie wasn't too good!
