Coming from someone who used to have a PS2 and has an Xbox, I would probably go with the Xbox. The PS2 is great, no doubt about it, but I think the Xbox has better games (Halo, Splinter Cell, Full Spectrum Warrior, etc.) and is more capable of playing these games smoothly. Also - if you have broadband - you can hook it up to Xbox Live and play all these games against other players.

Coming from playing PS2 it was a bit difficult to adapt to the Xbox controls (Amazingly, they both have the same number of buttons, joysticks and D-pads), and I didn't really like playing racing games on Xbox, but now that I've gotten used to it, I find it easier. The Xbox controls have Left and Right trigger (Rough equivalent of R2 and L2) and they're much easier to depress lightly. I could never GRADUALLY increase my speed on a PS2, but it's easy with the Xbox.

So yeah, I'd go with Xbox - you don't need a Memory Card either, it has an inbuilt savegame HD. (I shouldn't be saying this but my Xbox has a 60GB harddrive which I can put games on - so I hire a game, put it on the harddrive and there you go.)

For an unbiased opinion, listen to people that have both PS2 and Xbox -- and that like both consoles. Usually, they'll say Xbox gets a slight edge, taking all the pros/cons of each system into consideration.

The fact that PS2 has more games is meaningless, unless your goal is setting a record for playing the most console games, or you have nothing but free time on your hands. Xbox has enough quality titles available right now to keep you busy until all the next gen consoles are unveiled -- the second half of this year will also see some stellar titles announced.

WE is one of the few reasons my PS2 don't have more dust on it.

Having gotten rid of my Xbox and kept my PS2, I wish I hadn't. I want Xbox Live and I want Halo 2. Now that GTA is on Xbox and PES is going to be, I'll be purchasing an Xbox sooner rather than later.

Listen dipsh*t, I merely pointed out that the X-box's catalogue of games are virtually all available (or will be available) on the PC. Let the guy make his own mind up, I just offered some advice; don't take the piss out of my opinion. If the guy has a high-spec PC, then the X-Box would be a waste of money. The X-Box tends to be heavily geared towards mind-numbing 'first-person shooter' games anyway. Err... right...variety is bad! :/

Personally, I'm not going to lose any sleep over what someone purchases with their own money, I just offered some sound, considered advice. If he buys an X-Box- then great- it's his choice. There's no need to ejaculate all over your keyboard about the X-BOX! Is Billy Gates your step-father, Paco?

F***ing fanboys...

Way to get worked up, tough guy.

I wasn't responding to you personally, just to the argument commonly heard that says buy PS2 because there are more games.

My argument is sound -- Xbox has just as many quality titles (not just FPS) as the PS2, if that's the only problem a potential buyer has.

I have both consoles and a $300 investment to buy both wouldn't be such a bad thing if money were no object.

You think Gates is evil, while Sony is a knight on white horse? Piss on both, I could care less.

While we're at it, piss on you for attacking me when I'm providing some solid advice to the original question -- namely, don't listen to wankers who call other's fanboys; instead, listen to the opinions of those gamers who have both consoles and who can give a level-headed response. Who can argue with that?

I agree with everything you said mate (Y). It's not about quantity, it's all about quality. There maybe fewer titles to choose from on the XBOX, but Microsoft have only just started in the console market, so they need time to get more developers making games for there console. XBOX has a better quality selection of games, some very revolutionary, PS2 games just don't excite me, alot of them games are just clones of each other, no revolutionary ideas since the likes of the first GTA. PS2 being the weaker console graphically out of the three next generation consoles, and a poor online mode feature is another reason why I prefer XBOX.

This is a non-biased opinion seeing as I have both consoles. I used to enjoy my PS2 better about 2 years ago, but XBOX has slowly released more gaming titles and alot of there games spark new ideas and oringinality I just don't get on the PS2. I just can't wait for Counter-Strike 2, Doom 3, and Halo 2 to hit the shelves.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

This is what I'm talking about when I say unbiased, level-headed opinions by gamers with experience on both consoles.

Now go-ahead and compare spurs4life's informed comments with the childish remarks of davilton in response to my observations and choose your camp!

Okay fanboys, move along; nothing more to see...!

Consoles cost too much when they just come out. Like me I usually wait for months.

I own an xbox, before that I use to own a Playstaion 1. I only did get Xbox simply because it has better graphis, no need of memory, faster etc. Not beause of the games it have.

It weird if you ask many PS2 fanboys what would they buy PS3 or Xbox 2, most of them would say PS3.

But me I would buy which ever has the best graphics, speed etc.

Xbox all the way Unless there is one your fav game on PS2 thats not available on Xbox.

Mate...blind biased comments like that make your opinion seem worthless. XBOX isn't a "poor man's PC", it's a chance for Microsoft to spread there wings and try out new, more exciting gaming possibilites. The gaming developers haven't even discovered the XBOX's potential, they say they have only used about 60% of what it is capable of, which is exciting news to me.

You say the next generation consoles will be out soon, well you are wrong. PS3 and XBOX 2 are both scheduled to be released in 2006, but of course that's in Japan, so the likes of us won't get them in this country until 2007, and they both will be very expensive so again you will have to wait even longer until you get the chance to buy one. So I say XBOX has alot of life in it yet.

XBOX games doesn't have as many titles as PS2, but let me point out a fact, do you remember when Sony released Psone?. People was saying ohhhhhh it can't beat SEGA, they are foolish to even try it, they haven't got many titles...ring a bell?. What happened?, they released there own titles like Tekken, Gran Turismo, Gta etc.. and slowly gained the developers and buyers to convert and put SEGA out of business. Like I have said PS2 games are all the same, a standard platform game, normal 10 stage fighting game etc... but on XBOX you get revolutionary games like FABLE, Doom 3, Counter-strike, Blinx, even RAW 2, I can make a perfect replica of Bret Hart and have his theme music as he walks to the ring down to the hardrive. XBOX will also have Pro Evolution 4, they are gaining games by the second.

Bottom line is this, XBOX has the power, the speed, the revolutionary games, PS2 has more games, but is basically a SNES but with improved graphics. For example why would I want to buy Pro Evolution 4 on PS2, when I can have it for XBOX, which has better graphics and a possibility of online mode?, enough said.

BTW I have 19 XBOX titles and 15 of them are sports games, so no XBOX doesn't just have good FPS games. Project Gotham?, Blinx?, Fifa, NHL, fight night, you can also add PES4 to the list, XBOX also has a great sport games range. There is also Other superb games in other genres such as Metal Gear Solid, Splinter Cell, not to forget FABLE, Shenmue 2 and BC. PS2 doesn't have the power and capability to run some of them games ;). I have both consoles so no I'm not a fanboy, I'm just not retarded, I can actually see where things are better than others and XBOX wins hands down.

When will PS3 come out?
Based on what developers are saying and the PlayStation 2 still being in its maturity stage, thanks to innovations like the Eye toy and the healthy amount of games coming out, PS3 portal estimates a late 2005 to early 2006 release. However 2006 seems to be the general consensus. As far as a 2004 release goes we don't feel Sony have the wants nor the means to implement PS3 any time this year unfortunately.

Billy Gates is your pimp?

Bill Gates is my pimp? wtf you talking about?. I actually liked some of your comments in alot of threads and respected your posts, but now I see why you get on everybody's nerves with stupid bi!tchy comments just because I pointed out some home truths about your beloved PS2. We was having a good debate, then you ruin it. 2006 release in Japan, then it will ship to the US, then Europe. The consoles will be sold out in the first 2 months of it's release, then you can purchase a very expensive console if you choose, so yeh 3 years is a realistic wait.
