Your Top-10 Rock Bands?

Hehe, I'm just tired of seeing 13 year-old girls wearing striped socks and converse sneakers talking about how "punk" Green Day, Blink 182, Good Charlotte, Simple Plan...etc. are. I mean, if you call Green Day and Blink 182 punk, what do you call Ramones, The Exploited and Dead Kennedys?

Mainstream punk blows and the real punk is dead :)

I have the hope that...maybe someday one of these kids realise that they're listening to trash and try to discover a band they truly like instead of what they're fed by radios and music channels

if you cant respect peoples opinions on music, why the f*ck should they care about yours?

I mean its all about personal preference, you may hate something, but others dont, so who cares? Let people listen to what they want, how does it affect you?

And no I can't respect people who say they love rock and then go and make a list with the 10 sh*ttiest bands around, that are actually the only ones they can remember. That's like saying you like movies and then go and say that your favourites are TripleX, TripleX2 and Fast and the Furious and Fast and the Furious 2. It just shows your retardedness.
if you can't respect them, then you are the retarded.

now what the f*ck does RHCP has to do with anything Mike Patton will ever do?
try to listen to rhcp's early works and check it yourself.

And how you know I don't know any of RHCP's early work? I even own Blood Sugar Sex Magik, you moron...
i know it because it's really obvious. and i don't even need to prove that, you do it yourself: "blood sugar sex magik" is a rhcp's early work? again, your ignorance in evidence...

punk is not dead.....

.....:( punk deserves to be killed! there hasn't been a decent punk rock band since the fade away of Seattle and LA's punk bands in the late 80's

Hey guys, arguing on the internet about whether this band or that band is rock or not is just stupid. If you guys are smart you'll realize it and cut the crap.

-----------------------

Anyway, this just reminds me I never wrote my feelings about Coldplay's new album. Since I can't be arsed to find the right thread, I also can't be arsed to write a proper review, so here goes a couple thoughts about it:

'X&Y' is a good pop album, full of melodic tunes and catchy hooks. It doesn't add one bit to rock's history, but it's still better than 95% of the other commercial pop/rock out there. And this is okay: there's plenty of room for them in the world. I'd rather have acne-plagued 14 year-olds kiss to the sound of 'What if?' than any of the crap put out by Spears or Jessica Simpson.
Bottom line: harmless pop at its best.

The only question here is whether Coldplay chose to make another 'AROBTTH' because they couldn't come up with something new altogether or simply drove the easy route towards commercial success. In other words, are they honest about their lack of creativity? I believe they probably are. There aren't many escape routes for albums like 'AROBTTH' and 'X&Y' and only a number of fans care to buy the same album over and over, so we're likely witness Act II of the fade of Colplay's world domination in 2 years time.

Finally, I'd like to point out how disgusting the recent vendetta perpetrated by the major critics against Coldplay is. It's always the same pattern: they put bands on the highest pedestal possible, only to knock them down hard once they achieve fame and fortune. Bashing Coldplay is the flavour of the week, which is surprising because their new album is very similar to their previous effort - so not much has changed. Where were those critics 2 years ago?

just want to make it clear the main subject of my discussion was not about that...

about coldplay and critics: hugo, i think we're reading totally different stuff. most reviews i've read of "x&y" are positive. that's in the british and brazilian media (the only american i've read is that one from the nytimes i posted). i feel like a lonely voice here. :(

Really? Well, I read some rather mild/negative reviews. It's tough to label this record, because it's good and bad at the same time, if you know what I mean.

But I guess one would expect the english media to support their (currently) most successful band, I don't know... :S

How big is YOUR penis?
1. U2 ( call me commercial retarded or whatever but for me personally they still rock, you can`t juts let go a band who has a bond with you in the last 15 years or so )
2. The Cranberries
3. Radiohead
4. Collective Soul
5. The Beatles
6. Queen
7. Meatloaf
8. Fastball
9. Oasis
10. The Wallflowers

I don`t know nor understand the idea that you have to like a rock band noone`s heard of or underground punk music for you to look cool. If you ask top 10 favourite artists from all genre you`ll see Sarah McLachlan and RW on my list, and I`m sure some wannabe cool-underground music-self proclaimed guy will be yellin` how retarded I am. Just listen to what you like, and if you don`t like people`s taste then don`t go flaming them . . .

Check Fat Wreck Chords. Plenty of non-mainstream punk bands on them. Green Day WAS punk, but if you define punk by the simple act of not signing to a major label, then no, they lost themselves to that concept in 1994 with Dookie. The term for those bands I tend to use is "candy punk" (like "bubblegum rock" back in the day). Touched up and sweetened in studio. Older Green Day wasn't, nor was older Blink 182. Punk, pop punk, candy punk is the progression in my mind. Simple Plan is easily candy punk as is new Good Charlotte. That's just my classification anyway and it makes sense to me so that's what counts. :p

10. Lawrence Arms
9. Coldplay
8. Fall Out Boy
7. Weezer
6. Taking Back Sunday
4. Brand New
3. Alkaline Trio
2. Green Day
1. Blink 182

Honorable Mention(s): The Ataris, NOFX, The Misfits, Lifetime, Rise Against, Less Than Jake, Motion City Soundtrack, Dillinger Four, Get Up Kids.

Yes, I cheated. I guess I've thought every band is near the greatest at one time or another.

Superstar
The Eagles - Hotel California
Aerosmith - Janie's Got A Gun
Led Zeppelin - Stairway To Heaven
Guns N' Roses - Paradise City
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird
Metallica - Nothing Else Matters
Pink Floyd - Good Bye Blue Sky
Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Under The Bridge
Van Halen - Eruption
Tom Petty - Mary Jane's Last Dance
Foreigner - Double Vision/Feels Like The First Time
The Beatles - Eleanor Rigby

In no order really I mean 95% of my ipod is filled with those bands and I can't say that I like one more than the other although if you look at my "most played" list Hotel California (live/acoustic) is uhhhh way off the charts compared to the others because it's only the best song ever made. Yeah.

PS: Yeah I know it's more than ten but again ranking stuff is stupid oh and I wrote my favorite song from each as well :jap:
