He might have to sit on the bench for a long time....I can only see this as being a long term investment by Abramovich. :jap:

Some have talked about Robben being tried out at CF if hes up for it, like some of his starts at PSV apparrently. I dont know if Wright-Phillips is going to start right away just because of the tenure issue, and Jose supposedly having good relations with both Duff and Robben, but I guarantee he is going to figure from the first fixture, and if healthy, all three are going to be in a game on most occasions. We shall see though. I cant wait to see this kid in blue when they come to DC :)

Damn City, you're screwed.
Well, the way you look at it, they were either going to become a top side in England with him as their superstar, which would be extremely difficult with a star at the wing position, or they were going to have to sell him at one time or another. For the money they got, I dont think there can be many complaints. City are already a good side, and if they get Keane like theyre rumored to, I would expect them to finish somewhere top 8. The case of Everton proved one starlet does not a team make.

Oh well it was always going to happen sooner or later... I was just hoping for another season of his talent but at the end of the say the money will help with some signings in positions we really need.. like strikers. I thought he might hold out for an offer from Arsenal at some stage but at the end of the day there is little room for romaticism in football these days (barring freak champions league results) and Arsenal have their eyes elsewhere at present in the transfer market. I also thing a certain Mr. Eriksson may have had a hand in this, if only yo suggest to SWP that a move to a club playing in the champions league, and playing alongside other England players, would be good for his long term status in the national team. After all it is World Cup year in 2006 and this move will give him a season playing against the players he will (probably) face in that particular tournament. So in terms of his career it is a good move. He won't languish on the bench, he is too good for that, and he is not one to get injured easily - remember he played every minute of every game until his injury last season, and he bounced back pretty quickly.

I also think City can still do well without him, our league position was not based on him alone. The only gripe I really have is that we could have held out for $25m - but dems da breaks.

Cya Shaun, been good having you, and hope you come back for a final swansong in your early 30's :ewan: :lui: (C)
