So Kerry gives a crazy and unlikely scenario that would avoid Syria being attacked, while being questioned in an interview. Russia takes that as an opportunity and approaches Assad about it, he agrees, and now Kerry and Obama are trying to say it was their Idea, and never meant as a "unlikely scenario", but more like an already ongoing plan.

Well, whatever... If Russia, Syria, and the UN do go with this plan, it will avoid a US intervention. Obama has just asked congress to delay the vote, which means all is back to what it was a couple of weeks ago.

I think Syria and particularly Russia reputation is on the line here, I hope it doesn't turn out that it was another strategy to buy time ...

Obama delayed the vote, because reports suggest many congressmen are against the attack, even democrats. He didn't want a defeat in two fronts.

If Russias plan goes through, the next question will be, what will happen next?

If Syria will give in their chemical weapons, it won't stop the civil war. We will see if Obamas intentions were sincere. If they were, he'll be working on aiding and arming the rebes.

There is a big difference between all rebel groups, as long as there is no differentiation between them, it's really hard to give them any help. So many groups involved in this war ...

Assad Army ...
Hezbolah ...
Good rebels :), free army...
Radical naughty rebels ...
Kurds ...
Al Qaeda backed groups ...

and the coalition have their differences with free army ...

Btw, there are many Syrians in Melbourne and most support Assad, I'm really surprised by that ... they believe they'll have the same problem as Egypt if Assad goes.

There were recently demonstrations or anti-war protest here in the states, and people were waving the Syria flag. Most were backing Assad and were against a U.S strike because of that.

While the power games between 'Murica and Russia has been horrible to watch, as it has been robbing the focal point from Syrian conflict, to a fight between two western imperialists, ironically, I feel like it has been one of the very few things that have made the world turn their heads towards Syria. Even this thread was created because you thought that the US might strike Syria, not because there has been a full-scale civil war going on for two years.

In case al-Assad will give his chemical weapons under international control, the worst thing that can happen, would be Putin and Obama backing off completly, leaving the regime to continue killing the rebels.

By the way, isn't it funny how fast the regime (that didn't use the chemical weapons ;) ) agreed with the Russian plan?

May I add, that the same regime had claimed that it didn't have these so called "chemical weapons".

And that's what's going to happen, they will turn over their chemical weapons, but the civil war will continue until the rebels give up.
