The Legend
Aliadiere on road to return
by Patrick Haond - Last Updated 19 Nov 2004

Arsenal striker Jeremie Aliadiere has returned to North London to step up his rehabilitation from a serious knee injury.

The promising French starlet picked up the injury when coming on as a second half substitute in Arsenal's Community Shield win over Manchester United in August.

Arsenal chief Arsene Wenger was initially hopeful that his compatriot would only be out for a matter of weeks, but scans revealed serious damage to the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee.

Aliadiere had undergone treatment in his homeland but the 21-year-old has now returned to London.

''I did it (rehabilitation work) at Clairefontaine with the federation doctors,'' confirmed Aliadiere.

''Since Sunday night I am in London and on Monday, I resumed work with the Arsenal fitness coach.

''Everything is fine. I am holding on.''

Starting XI
I honestly don't think he's good enough for us. Especially not when Robin, Quincy and Arturo all proving what they can do during his absence.

The Legend
I think he's good enough, Remember Bergkamp won't be around forever, and we've lost Jeffers, Kanu and Wiltord from the attack.

Starting XI
Unless he builds his body up a bit, he's going to look like one of those players who would be out for a season if given one good kick.

Starting XI
i think hes better than lupoli and quincy currently, and hes also pretty much as fast as henry - if he just plays the way he did in the carling cup games in the premiership/cl then he will definitley make it

Starting XI
How fickle are some of you?

Remember how he was tearing up the opposition in the Carling Cup and broke Owen's scoring record in the FA Youth Cup. He gets a bad injury and people are writing him off already?

I recall many of you were drooling over him after he produced some outstanding performances (myself included) but now you're saying he won't make it with us?

Who says van Persie will turn into an angel and leave his current attitude behind?

Who says Quincy will develop further from just pace and footwork?

Who says Lupoli won't adapt to the English game?

Who says these guys will even stay with us for a long time?

The fact remains, Aliadiere has shown much, much more than these guys to stake his claim for a spot in the team. I personally cannot wait until he returns. You aren't considered one of the top three prospects from Clairefontaine for nothing, no?

Reserve Team
Well Ali is lucky that he has time on his side. He's only 20/21 and he is basically 3/4 choice striker once Bergkamp retires. You have to remember that Qunicy and Lupoli are only 18 and 17 and there is no way they will see first team action anytime soon. They will continue to develop in the reserves as they are still raw. Ali will hopefully come back next year and work out his knee problem and show us why Wenger had so much faith in him.
