Is it me or Chivu was number 5 when he first came at Roma? And why the hell did they gave Chivu 13 and let Mexes "The cvnt" use number 5?

13 has always been Chivu's number, I remember at EURO 2000 he wore 13 for the NT and he wore 13 at Ajax too.

edit: nevermind now I can, yeah I guess he didn't wear 13 at Ajax but idk for some reason I have always seen 13 as Chivu's number and I'm 100% positive he has always worn it for the NT.

edit: btw he wore 4 not 5

Roma jerseys will be released on Aug 24th. Sponsor or no sponsor. Mazda and Roma negotiations broke down and currently Roma are looking for a new sponsor. Reps from Roma are travelling to the United Arab Emirates to negotiate a sponsor deal. With what company, nobody knows. Could it be that Roma will be wearing "Fly Emirates" as a sponsor? Possibly. :bob:

Spalletti: We can control Cassano
Friday 19 August, 2005
A new deal to keep Antonio Cassano at Roma for another year is in the works, but Luciano Spalletti is sick of other clubs interfering.

“We do not need the directors of other sides telling us how we should deal with Cassano,” slammed the Coach after some well-publicised comments regarding the starlet. “I am counting on him for this season and Roma need him. He is training well and focused, so I expect we’ll see the best of him this year.”

The ex-Bari player has hit headlines for all the wrong reasons over the last few months, arguing with a series of tacticians, threatening to walk out, refusing to sign a contract extension and publicly confirming his desire to work with Fabio Capello at Juventus.

Cassano’s temperament and importance for the Italian national squad has made him a much talked-about figure in the Press, with everyone from Juventus director general Luciano Moggi to Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti commenting on what should be done to tame his temper.

He was even dropped from Wednesday’s 2-1 friendly victory in the Republic of Ireland and it’s reported that snub from Marcello Lippi further infuriated him.

“I don’t think it’s unusual for him to be irritated at that decision,” added Spalletti. “Besides, even if he was angry, we don’t need directors from other clubs telling us how to deal with Cassano.”

The main reason for his uncertainty lies with his contract situation, as the current deal expires in June 2006 and he would be a free agent at the end of this season. With Juve patron Lapo Elkann already proclaiming they were ready to snap up him in 12 months’ time, Roma are preparing a new strategy to avoid being left empty-handed.

It’s claimed a new contract has been proposed offering £2.2m per season with the added bonus of a buy-out clause so that Cassano could leave the Giallorossi for an agreed fee next July.

Meanwhile, Spalletti has analysed what he hopes to achieve with the club this term. “There’s no escaping the fact that the Scudetto will be won by one of Juve, Milan and Inter. Roma can challenge for something important with Palermo, Fiorentina, Sampdoria and Udinese. Nonetheless, anything can happen in football and we’ll try to make the most of our chances. The best team wins only if it learns to act like a provincial squad and battle for every ball.”

The former Udinese boss also had a stark warning for the likes of Francesco Totti and Cassano. “We must improve our discipline – I don’t like the fact that Roma are one of Serie A’s most booked sides. Professionals need to keep their cool on the pitch, as that is how you get points.”

i'm tired of this ****e.........
when was the last time cassano spoke to the press???
from now on i'm gonna zone out any news on cassano unless it says in bold OFFICIAL somewhere in it.
every thing else is just a waste of my limited reading power....

Agreed. Im fed up.

Good thing is that its only about 10 more days of bullsh*t we have to put up with at the most.

No point believing anything but the Official statements now on. I do think Juve will sign 2 more players though by the 31st.

Totti Show In Messina
8/20/2005 10:51:00 PM
Two goals by Francesco Totti and one by Mancini allowed AS Roma to lift the Memorial Franza Trophy at the expense of Messina, on Saturday night.
All of the Giallorossi’s goals arrived in the second half of play, with Totti opening the scoring with two freekick shots that caught Messina keeper Storari by surprise.

Later in the half Mancini added Roma’s third from short range.

"We played well, we must try to be more creative, but things are looking good," said Roma boss Spalletti after the final whistle.

Totti delighted by ‘new’ Roma
Monday 22 August, 2005
Francesco Totti believes things have changed for the better at Roma - but he doesn’t think they’ll challenge for the title.

The Giallorossi endured a nightmare campaign last term, struggling for form and going through four different tacticians.

Udinese boss Luciano Spalletti subsequently arrived in the summer and Totti is delighted with their progress.

"Spalletti is working very well," the captain stated. "We haven’t worked so intensely since the days of Zdenek Zeman.

"You can already see the results of our hard work. The squad is getting better day after day.

"Everything has changed here in just a matter of months – in the changing rooms, on the field of play and probably in our heads too."

Roma are looking in good shape right now and Totti was in fine form at Messina on Saturday, as he netted a brace of free-kicks in a friendly win.

"I still don’t feel at 100 per cent," he admitted. "I know that I can do more even if it was tough as I had missed training with the flu."

Some optimistic Giallorossi fans are dreaming of a title challenge but the Stadio Olimpico hero is keeping his feet on the ground.

"I’m optimistic by nature but it will be tough for the likes of Juventus, Inter and Milan to let the League slip away," he continued.

"We will be there without too many dreams but ready to do our best. Our main aim is to not repeat the errors of last season."

Chivu agent denies Milan switch Thursday 25 August, 2005
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The agent of Roma stopper Cristian Chivu has played down talk of an imminent move to Milan.

The Romanian has been associated with the Rossoneri given the recent injury concerns surrounding Paolo Maldini.

But Andrea Pretti insists that the whispers being circulated are in the realms of fantasy football.

"Anything can happen in this game but I will repeat yet again that Cristian is happy at Roma and has no intention of leaving," he told SPQ Radio.

"He has a lot of stimulus to do well and he really likes the way this club is going forward with a new project.

"I understand that there isn’t a lot of news to fill the newspapers but these voices are just rumours."

Chivu, who can play both as a left-back and a central defender, has also been linked with Juventus and Inter this summer.

Meanwhile, Pretti has confirmed that Damiano Tommasi is on the verge of signing a new deal at the Olimpico.

His previous contract expired in June but the central midfielder should still be wearing the Giallorossi shirt this term.

"We are close to concluding his renewal," added the agent. "There are no big problems to resolve. I think we should sign an agreement by Monday."

if there is something more annoying than the cassano situation, it definitely was this. HE'S NOT GOING ANYWHERE

Juve agree Cassano move - report Thursday 25 August, 2005
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Roma’s fans made it clear Antonio Cassano’s days at the club are numbered and it’s reported Juve reached an agreement for the player today.

There are claims that Bianconeri director general Luciano Moggi met with his opposite number Daniele Prade’ in Rome this morning and agreed to exchange Cassano for Adrian Mutu, Giorgio Chiellini and a cash sum. It’s suggested that an official announcement will be made on Friday.

The former Bari starlet has rejected terms for a contract extension with the Olimpico outfit and his current deal expires at the end of the season.

To prevent him leaving on a free transfer, the Giallorossi hope to sell him off now and at least make back £13m of the £20m they paid for him in 2001.

Roma have threatened to leave Cassano on the bench for the entire campaign if he doesn’t “confirm his status as a member of the squad by signing a new contract,” but the final straw came last night.

During the team presentation at the Stadio Olimpico, Cassano was roundly insulted by the crowd and only came on for the second half in the 2-0 friendly victory over Arab side Al Ain, with goals from Vincenzo Montella and Rodrigo Taddei.

The fans also hurled abuse at the Italian international when he attended teammate Francesco Totti’s wedding earlier this summer and the rapport with the notoriously fiery Roma supporters is at breaking point
