The contract was already signed in January though. Which is still against the rules. They're allowed to meet up on terms and etc. and negotiate a future deal but I'm 90% certain that a contract signature by both parties is illegal.Originally posted by Punkt
No, you have to count from January to June when Ricardo Rocha and Braga "rescindiram" the contract... In July Ricardo Rocha was already benfica player not August.

A notícia foi avançada esta noite pela SIC: face à alegada inscrição irregular do jogador Ricardo Rocha, o Benfica arriscar-se-ia a perder o segundo lugar na Superliga e a Taça de Portugal. O tema estava a ser discutido no programa «O Dia Seguinte», da SIC Notícias, pelos comentadores Gulherme Aguiar, Fernando Seara e Dias Ferreira.
Inesperadamente, surge o presidente do Benfica, insurgindo-se contra Guilherme Aguiar, que na altura da inscrição de Ricardo Rocha era director executivo da Liga de clubes. Depois de explicar que o ex-jogador do Sporting de Braga assumiu compromisso com o Benfica em 14 de Janeiro de 2002, mas que o contrato só deu entrada na Liga em 8 de Maio do mesmo ano, Luís Filipe Vieira passou ao ataque e afirmou, nomeadamente: «Estamos fartos de ser enxovalhados. O Benfica não tem culpa de que as pessoas da Liga estejam distraídas. A Taça está entregue e niguém a leva, nem o segundo lugar. A conversa ficou «quente» e o presidente do Benfica ripostou: «O sr. não faltou à verdade, deslizou completamente.»
Um momento televisivo fora do vulgar que deixou Fernando Seara visivelmente transtornado. Ricardo Rocha's contract was signed on January 15th 2002 and would ONLY take effect on July 1 2002 and would expire June 30 2007. His contract entered in the FA and the League Association on May 8th 2002. Anything illegal? NO. This is a very usual procedure everywhere in the world, with the law nothing having against it.
Ricardo Rocha was even gently given to Benfica by Braga before time so he could play in the off-season tour before the 2002 WC, in Angola.
If any of this absurd and insolit events are taken further, hell will break loose in Portugal. The Sistema will end, 6 million people will fight LITERALLY everyone.
BTW, that Mr. (?) Guilherme Aguiar is an hipocryte. Before Vieira arrived in the studio he said everything possible to condemn Benfica. But when he arrived, he completely changed his speech. And Vieira was on a high tonight.

The spirit of that April regulation is to block players that the contracts are ending to sign earlier with another club. This is very simple. Benfica signed Tiago, Armando and Ricardo Rocha in January and signed with all 3 but Braga asked to Benfica to let RR to play for them until the end of the season.So Benfica registered only Tiago and Armando on Liga and RR only in May. Please someone tell me which is wrong on this?
