Any player that doesn't have vacations for two years has some issues with pace.

glad you don't.

Maniche was the driving midfield force for Porto's and Portugal's good results in the Champions League and the Euro.

Porto's Lucho couldn't even get past the easiest CL group.

good for Benfica if you keep the overrated media products like Diego and Lucho on your side.

Oh c'mon man, maniche was a driving force with Mourinho behind his back and Lucho is playing for 2 years in a row without resting and has already scored 6 times in his debut season in Europe.

You can't compare it.

What has Maniche done whenever he's not trained by Mourinho? Even when he was awesome for our NT he was propulsed by the two years spent with Mourinho.

Nah, i'd take Lucho over Maniche any time, but who cares, everybody has its own opinion, and this isn't the thread to talk about it. peace:mexican:

yeah, it's all official. I'm very happy he's gone to Chelsea, for the sake of the NT and the upcoming WC. Mourinho made him into a top-class midfielder, hopefully he'll bring Maniche back to the level he was at during Porto's UEFA/CL winning days. Amazing to think that a small handful of years ago Maniche was a nobody rejected by Benfica and playing 3 or 4 seasons at Alverca....now he's going to be playing at argueably the greatest club on earth

Damn! I wanted Maniche at United, not a surprise though. Now that you got Maniche, how about you let Mikel join us, you don't need so many midfielders :)

Lucho and Maniche are two very different players, you can't really compare them.

Great game between Chelsea and Fulham yesterday (Y)
A draw probably would have been more fair, but still a good match none the less.

Go Crespo :)

Yea, and Newcastle would be second on the table if his predictions over the season were correct ...

Lampard's not playing today, he's got some virus. 164 consecutive matches, very impressive.

I just wish I didn't have him in my fantasy team taking up a fifth of my salary... I knew Gerrard was the better pick... :boohoo:

Halloa guys, hope your holidays all went well :ewan: Including for my fellow kabul cave dwellers (H)

Great win today, but I think Lawreson's prediction was 0-2 for Chelsea ;) In any event, I still agree with the part about Hanson.

We left it a bit late today, but we got all three points thanks to the growing legend that is Joe Cole. I didnt see anything of the match, but im glad to see us win without Frank, albeit him losing the streak was a bit regretful. In any event, our closest chasers dropped points to (snicker) Brum, so I guess advantage Liverpool, but for the moment, 11 points clear having a laugh, eh?

The maniche signing I am really excited about. It doesnt take a genius to see that we will need cover with the african nations cup, despite this talk about Essien part timing club and country duties, and frankly if we had to put Guddy in as a third midfielder and Diarra was our only cover, I would be a bit worried. Maniche was brilliant for Porto and in EURO, and as the portugeezers here alluded to, its possible that Jose can bring him back to his best. On top of that, im sure he will be elated to be out of Moscow and hopefully he shows that out on the pitch by playing his heart out.

My only question is does anyone have an idea of a fee? Dinamo paid nearly 11 million quid for him, so I doubt he will come all that cheap, but getting him makes up for losing Tiago a bit, and if we sign him and recall Smertin I think we would be set in midfield for the second half (i.e. nothing against Jiri, but he can stay at Birmingham)

Oh, and here's a big  to Super Joey f*cking Goal! Can you believe this time last year people were talking about how he had no future at this club and Jose was dogging him in the press for not defending and playing all around ball. Now he is indispensible, scoring week in week out, and he has solidified his place in the starting 11. I think he stands a great chance at player of the month to boot

The fact that he, Robben and Crespo have been so exceedingly good in the past few weeks is brilliant. The only two left to get going this season will be SWP and Guddy. Still, bottom line is we are nicking results when we are far from our best and thats all that matters

Hi Balla ....Hi all..........Yeah,it was a hard won game tonight.A very important win though(well i guess they all are).Teams like Man City are the ones to beat if you are gonna be champs.Teams like this will fight till the end.Their squad has some fine ,on form players too so we did well to win today.
In a way i am glad the battles are so hard fought. Not only does it prove that the EPL is still a very competitive league, but proves also that you do not, and cannot buy results.Every point we have has been well earned, and not because we have an expensive squad. Its because our players have as much desire and fight in them as everyone else in the division has,and then some.
So with a little luck we might get the back to back titles this season.A great achievement that does not happen to many teams in any league. If we achieve that, then i would be prepared to prioritise other competitions next season. But this is the one i badly want before anything else.Back to back titles......that sounds so good.

Dead on pete, hard fought points but "thats why were champions" as they say. I hate to sound arrogant, but with an 11 point cushion at the same point where we only had 5 last year, we could be looking at making the title ours weeks before the end of the season. Back to back would be sweet, but i'll side with Whinger (gulp) when I say that the Champions League is just a simple knockout competition which isnt as important as the league: Its just too damn unpredictable to pin hopes on an event where one off night means youre toast...still, it would be awful sweet to win it, though.

And about Joe Cole, id like to get your guy's input. Im thinking that if he continues like he has so far, and develops into the player, permanently, that he has become over the last few weeks, the name "Joe Cole" might be spoken as part of a holy trinity with "John Terry" and "Frank Lampard" in a few years time in terms of the three legends that were at the heart of this team. Its fantastic that a blue from youth like Joe is living out his dream

Man, that would piss the Spammers off mightily (H)

You have to feel for West Ham , if they had managed to keep hold of , Ferdinand , Lampard , Cole , Defoe and Carrick they would have a ******* awesome team.
