My semi-final predictions:

Ok, so the odds of the Galaxy actually beating the defending champion Saprissa are slim... but lets just say its more or less what I'd like to happen to then be able to drive to Cali to watch a Galaxy vs Toluca matchup. (H)

And anyone know why the Revs are playing their home match in Bermuda?

Hopefully America will not pull another "Sudamericana" on us, and we'll get some good football from them.

Now, all football aside...

Ojala les ponga una buena el Alajuelense...bola de nacos de la...

Toluca should win it though, they have by far the best overall team of all.

They didn't get any reinforcements for the new year though, right?
Gallego must have something interesting coming...
A world championship, to end a great career, wouldn't come bad at all.

Yeah, Toluca didnt get any new players for this upcoming year. They actually lost players: Mario Mendez, Irving Rubirosa, Adalberto Palma, and Pablo Granoche... but none of them aside from Mendez really had that much playing time anyway.

Whether or not Toluca could win the world club cup is up in the air... I'd just love to see them in Japan though. (Y) (H)

MLS teams got the shaft. Mexican teams get CD Olimpia and a Jamaican club, while MLS teams draw the 2004 and 2005 champions of the tournament.

New England are playing in Barbados because it will be "too cold" in Boston. Still, it would have made sense to play somewhere within the US. Now, instead of using the cold weather to their advantage, the Revs will be playing in a tropical climate that works to Alajuelense's advantage. They're hoping the Barbadoans will come out to watch Khano Smith.

As usual, the timing of this tournament is screwing our teams over. This first leg of the matches takes place more than a month before the start of the MLS season. Anyone know when the Costa Rican season starts? The only Revolution and Galaxy players who will be fit are the ones currently in the national team camp - 3 for LA and 5 for New England - but they will be coming off a February 19th friendly vs. Guatemala and will not be rested.

My predictions:

LA Galaxy 2-2 Saprissa
Saprissa 3-1 LA Galaxy

New England 1-1 Alajuelense
Alajuelense 2-1 New England

MLS needs to get with it.

Change the fraking schedule already!

But then again, that would create other problems...

Anyway, you're talking about the Revs here, they don't deserve anything with those "management" practices.

MLS won't change its schedule to accomodate the Champions Cup unless in becomes a big tournament. But it's not going to become a big tournament unless the Mexican and American teams participating in it start taking it more seriously. Catch 22 right there. The tournament needs to be built around the USA vs. Mexico rivalry for it to become big.

The Revs owners are dumbasses who don't give a toss about international competitions. These are just pre-season friendlies to them.

(H)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My updated predictions:

Portmore United 0-3 Club America
Club America 3-0 Portmore United

CD Olimpia 1-1 CD Toluca
CD Toluca 2-0 CD Olimpia

New England 3-1 LD Alajuelense
LD Alajuelense 2-1 New England

LA Galaxy 1-1 Saprissa
Saprissa 2-0 LA Galaxy

LA's last friendly before playing Saprissa was a 2-1 loss to Chivas USA... that's not good.

On the other hand, New England beat Bermuda's national team 3-0 and the Bermuda U-20 national team 8-1. Dempsey had five goals in that game (4 of which he scored in an 8-minute period) and added another vs. Bermuda. I know it's against crap opponents, but not bad for a central midfielder. He's in really good form, as are Twellman and Noonan.
