had a hit in the nets last week with work colleagues who were all state school educated ... Sir_Didier_Drogba doesn't strike me as a state school product, but most of those guys were quietly confident that English pride will be preserved this summer ... the mood in England is generally understated though ... I'm hoping for an exciting draw in Wales before the Ashes heads here ...

Actually I'm completely state school educated, but you are not the first person to be surprised by that!

Johnson has better technique than nearly anyone...

That said ABD and Smith both aren't exactly orthodox batsmen, but it works for them. Maybe orthodox isn't the best way?

I'd drop Haddin and Watson. Haddin hasn't scored runs for too long in tests now, and dropping Root on zero cost us big time.

Good win for England, I think they'll win the Ashes. I just can't see where our big improvement is going to come from.

If we brought in Ahmed for Starc (if he's injured) we're a seamer short. If we brought him in for Watson it leaves our batting light - especially with Haddin batting so poorly lately.

To be honest it's our batting that needs improving anyway. Too many starts without scores, and poor discipline shots getting us out.

400 on that wicket in the first innings wasn't that amazing I don't think. We all got starts too, just threw it away

Totally agree. Lehmann as much agreed with that afterwards. Decent performance with the bat from us was made to look better by mistakes after starts from you guys. I was very impressed with Root though.
