Ah... it's that guy that says that Brasil are the hot favourites: "actually is because they are the most experienced and have a good defense."

Ok...

Ah... it's that douchebag who likes to get in fights, but then brings absolutely nothing to the table himself. Must be tough to fight when your arms are tied behind your back, because that's basically what you are in a battle of wits.

Portugal, average?! OH THE BLASPHEMY!! I mean, who are your midfielders? Figo who's like 90 years old, CR, Maniche I have no idea what he's been up to lately, and Deco who's a cheat and a diver and clearly the worst starter on Barcelona. In fact he doesn't even deserve to play for Barcelona. Pauleta's getting up there in the years, but he's still good. Carvallo and Ferreira and also good. But you look at this team and on paper they just aren't one of the best ten teams in the tournament. And to me, that's average.

I don't care if you call him a cheat and a diver, but saying he's "clearly the worst starter on Barcelona" is just stupid.
He's fundamental in Barça's midfield, providing the vital bridge between their defensive and attacking moves.
Rijkaard and the Barcelona supporters seem to think that way too btw...

and I didn't even need to go that far, just mentioning Oleguer should be enough to prove you wrong :p

you just made yourself look like a complete arse. Lots of Barça fans rate Deco above Eto'o as the 2nd best player on the side. Including people like Johann Cruyff.

He is a diver though, but so is Ronaldinho and no one picks on the guy.

I don't get to see many Barcelona games over here, but the man was invisible in the CL Final.

Of course, it's also worth noting that I am very arrogant about my opinion and do not evaluate players in the traditional sense all the time. There will be some players that everyone raves about and when I see them play not only do I disagree, but I consider them the worst player on the field. And it's not just one performance, it's just what the masses consider impressive and what I do. From a US perspective, Josh Wolff is one of these players. I've been waging war on him ever since I saw him play the worst game imaginable against my local A League club with me sitting on a grass hill 10 feet from the field.

Deco is a team player in Barcelona. He almost never tries to do things on his own because his instructions are to keep possession and to take the ball to Ronaldinho & co. His talent is very wasted in Barcelona but he does the deep playmaker job very well anyway.

In Portugal his main job is to attack so he has much more freedom to go forward and use his talent. He tends to be more flashy and to play even better for Portugal because that's his natural position.

Who are ?

To not count Portugal in the top ten is crazy.

don't be too surprised, according to him United are barely a third best team in england.
He isn't that wrong when he is saying this about United (it is a third best team in England) but when you say that Portugal can't be counted in the top ten you must be crazy. :D

I don't know what I was on about last night, so I deeply apologize; I guess I was just trying to start some needless controversy. However, I do believe that Portugal are not as highly rated as a lot of people just assume. Here are the teams I consider better...

Brazil, Argentina, England, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain.

And I consider all of these teams more or less even with Portugal...

Mexico, Czech Republic, and the Netherlands.

So therefore I consider them anywhere from #8 to #11. I don't think anyone can argue with that honestly. They are definitely above average and one of the better teams in the tournament, but realistically they are 8-11.

Starting XI
Brazil, Argentina, England, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. These are always favourites, even if they don't have a balanced team. That's unfair...without trying to put them apart, I think Spain and Germany aren't clear favourites. Spain still has to show something to surprise me...and Germany, even though they play at home, their team is very unbalanced, and their defense very young and unexperienced...these are only some facts.

I consider Portugal around the first outsiders to win the WC. Playing like we know, and with the players we have, I think anything less than the quarters is called "LOSERS".

But the real deal starts when the ball rolls in the field. Who knows what may happen...

I would add Netherlands and even Portugal.

Germany better than Portugal? Sorry I admire Klinsmann for the balls to play youngsters but Germany aren't better than Portugal on paper ATM and I reckon lots of teams like Spain or England are even if they fail to show it on the field when it matters.

Either way we'll probably choke as usual but Scolari will definitely get the sack unless he can reach a QF spot.

because they always have a great squad.

The thing is they never manage to get the results to match the quality of the players they have.

Some clever people, do not even bother to answer to douchebags... so you're basically a twat, that likes to call names to other people... it's not that i like to start fights, it's just that your comments sometimes they just suck, like those that you posted in this forum (glad to know that you have grown your IQ, becoz you're already apologizing for your stupidity - yeah, now you'll talk about my IQ, what's new... )...

You didn't even mentioned Miguel... Miguel is just one of the best in his position, playing in Europe, and he has been a regular for Valencia... he's faster and better than Ferreira... i don't need to say anything about Portugal's worth... the others have done it for me! (H)

Yes.... you're.... so you should try to be less arrogant, if you want to evaluate and discuss anything with other people...

I don't know man, I rate Ballack, Podolski, and Klose higher than anyone on Portugal except for CR. And Borowski is going to blow up at the Cup if he starts, the way he's playing right now I'd rate him above anyone on Portugal as well. However, I do admit an attacking bias. Richardo Carvallo is without a doubt the best defender on either of the two teams.

I know that Spain always chokes, and I've called them on it a ton over the last 6 years, but the talent on that team rivals ANY team. Vicente would START on the left flank for any team in the world and he wasn't even selected for the Spanish squad. Morientes would start for almost any team, not selected. In the midfield, there's Xavi, Reyes, Iniesta, Xabi Alonso, Joaquin, and Cesc; if the USA had ONE of those players I would rate our team much higher. Spain has six. And I didn't even mention Albelda who's class.

They could have some trouble finishing, but Raul has always been good for his country, and Torres and Villa are good players. Ditto for Luis Garcia. Then they have one of the best three keepers in the world with Casillas, maybe the best defender in the world with Pujol, the most consistent player I have ever seen in my life outside maybe Makelele with Salgado. I mean, there is too much talent on this team, it completely blinds me to their past failures; although to be fair, they did very well in 2002 and got beat by the refs.

Madeira

Germany does have an advantage considering they have the 12th man. But seeing their display against Japan, I wouldn't consider them a favourite or outsider.

I rate Pauleta higher than Podolski or Klose...

Miguel is in great shape... Costinha seems to be getting back to his old form... but not quite there yet... Deco, CR and Pauleta are in great shape also and if Figo is inspired.... Portugal will present a very frightful attacking force.... and Luis Boa-Morte has been playing very well for the NT... very good option for the Left side...
