virgo, have u ever been a keeper in a 11 goal?

please pay atention:

- the shot is taken from the centre, which means he couln't cover all the angles even if he was Jo Soares! he has to predict were the shot is going to be taken, which is extremely dificult (you can tell that by the way Ovchinikov moved on Valeron's goal today)

- no one tries to stop the shot, whcich gave Karagounis much more time and space to decide where to put it, aim, and take a perfect shot

- the defence is tight, and on "goal-camera" replays, it's clear that Ricardo can't see "a bola partir".

- Ricardo has half of a second to see where it goes and impulse himself... he touches the ball with his fingertips which was the best a goalie of his heigth could do....

please, stop being crybabys! We could have won, yes, but it's football! Moments change matches, it's umpredictable...

Wednesday we play Russia....

GO PORTUGAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Exactly! Very well said. Only people that don't understand a thing about goalkeeping can say that Ricardo was guilty in that goal. It was almost impossible for him to get to that ball. In fact, Ricardo was very secure, he was a nice surprise for me, because I thought he could accuse the pressure, especially playing at Porto stadium, but he didn't.

If he started Deco instead of Rui Costa, it would cause unrest among half of the squad. And Figo would've gone nuts since we all know he's totally against players getting citizenship to play for another country.

And i dont know why all you are criticizing Rui Costa. He played bad alright, but you people sound like he's a terrible player sometimes, and he's class.

Well, my analysis of the game:

Portugal started very nervously. We couldn't handle the pressure, while Greece was always very organized and calm. They started dominating the game and it was no surprise they ended up socring. Paulo Ferreira made a terrible mistake (and before he had already given the ball to a Greek player... what's wrong with him? he's great at Porto...), Couto didn't make a challenge and Ricardo was left with no chance, because he didn't see the shot coming.

This goal was a huge blow for us. Like I was already predicting, if we started losing, it would be very very very difficult to come back, because Greece is great at the back, very solid and organized.

We only started to play better around minute 25/30, but still, we couldn't create dangerous chances (apart from a Jorge Andrade shot, that passed near the post; and Simão's play, when he chipped the ball over a Greek defender, but the keeper managed to reach it before him). Rui Costa, apart from two great long balls, was non-existant. Figo was great! Things didn't go well for him, but he was the only player that wasn't nervous and that tried to have the ball and make things happen. He almost "carried" the team. Simão was also good, as well as Maniche.

In the 2nd half, Cristiano Ronaldo made that dumb foul (total lack of experience) and from the moment Greece scored from the penalty, the game was over. Deco played very good and Cris Ronaldo tried to create chances, but we weren't working as a team. The players were playing with their hearts, in an unorganized, rushed and individualist way. The spirit was there, but not the team sense. Still, we ended up having lots of chances (especially from the 75th minute on) and were very unfortunate not to draw. Things also just weren't going to go our way today.

Congratulations to Greece. They totally deserved the win. They are a very hard-working and organized team. We, Portugal, need to do much better. Deco should start in the next game, clearly. We need to play as a team.... Like people have said, we have many great players, but ATM, we don't have a team. It's difficult to change that in few days... Anyway, I hope and I'm sure that Portugal will play much better in the next games. But this result was very bad, so it will be difficult to recover. We need to win both matches left, against Russia and Spain. Unfortunately, I don't see this happening, but I hope I'm wrong. I'll still be here supporting my country, my team! :)

P.S. Some people here are showing a deep lack of respect... You are totally entitled to have your preferences and opinions, but you should be more respectful towards other people and not say sh*t about them and their countries. You know, everybody can lose. In fact, only one team will win, the others will all eventually lose. So, when it happens with your countries, with your teams, you won't like them having an arrogant and disrespectful attitude. And don't come with that crap: oh, we only do this because the others are arrogant. People who have principles don't lower themselves and respect everyone, even when they're not respected.

dude, about you liking upsets... no wonder

the match on your sig was an upset itself, Belgium beat Argentina (with Maradona, Ardilles ect) and eventually got them eliminated, because the other Argentina match was against Brazil, which Brazil won and Maradona was sent off for kicking Zico in the stomach... Maradona was 19 at the time, I think. It was in 82 World Cup, in Spain, if I'm not mistaken
