I just downloaded the demo and damn what an improvement from last year. The free kick system is a bit like PES, which I like I used C. Ronaldo and he hit the post. The gameplay just feels so much better, goalies react faster, the shooting system looks much better, the tackleing is so much rougher and the passing seems better.

I dont know what you all are complaining about, the only dissapointment of this demo is its only one half and the resolution of course. I cant wait to buy the game when it comes out, its going to be 10x better then fifa 2005. My score for the demo 8.5/10.

I play PES and have done so for the last 2 years , before I played FIFA well being PC owner I could do nothing else ... And FIFA was ok but 03 while not the worst it was not great 04 done it for me I never went near 05 ...

Now after playing PES for 2 years , what I can talk about is ball movement , and after non stop playing of the 06 demo and putting in the line to help frame rate, it didn't really help the ball movement at all ...


Now before anyone calls me a fanBOY , I am 47 - 48 on the 25th of this month !


I want to play the best football game I can and I don't care if its Konami's of EA's but at the moment its Konami's! Even with its flaws ....


The ball in the 06 demo does seem to skate along the grass in passing mode , and when that transfers to "in the air" be it lob or goalkicks or shots, then the ball does move in different ways. Lobs are like lead ballons (for want of a better way to discribe it) goalkick on the up arc seem smooth put on the down arc looks like there being held back, and shot travel far to fast. The whole ball physics give the game an unreal feeling to it, now I know FR had something to do with what I was seeing but not all..

FR would make the ball look jerky , but then again in the same game the ball ran along the grass as if it was on glass or ice! so FR doesn't tell the whole story. It was the way the ball travelled in flight its path(s) and be they smooth or jerky is not the main point, its the way the ball moves in flight at times it looks as light as a feather and others like a medicine ball.

Now if EA's want to make an Arcade football game dressed as footballing sim, then that is fine, if people want pick up and play fun then FIFA's the game... But if like me, your more into "being as close as any game can be to the real thing" (and PES still has a long way to go , its not perfect) but its PES for me ....


My dream ticket would be PES's gameplay = AI Ball Physics and yes even some of the player kits graphics! Matched with FIFA's whole footballing presentation and real teams, kits league setups..

Both games have there place in the gaming world , but my dream of a hybrid PES/FIFA game will have to wait ...

Ok I'll post a pros vs cons review based on what I've played on the demo.

Pros:

Clyve Tyldesley and Andy Gray as the commentary team. Although they don't say much because it's the demo version of the game, but from what I've have heard it's definately an improvement to have those guys in for Motty and Ally.

Passing is alot more slick, much more realistic, but there are some major flaws with it, I'll leave that for the cons.

The player radar is now much clearer to understand and is now useable, which for me it wasn't in Fifa 2005.

The game doesn't feel anyway near as scripted as past versions and players actually move out of position instead of just being glued into one place in a perfect straight line formation.

Cons:

Every pass is exactly the same, with exactly the same animation, no outside passes, no flick passes, just the same ordinary careful pass that every player does with the same aninmation. The passing is slick but sometimes too slick, it feels like you are playing on Calgary Flames ice rink.

Scorboard. I hate it, the team names are no longer displayed just some horrible looking silver scoreboard. Ugly.

We still have the problem with the AI. Goals still get banged into the top corner by the computer from 30 yards out far too frequently and over use the wings wayyyyyy too much, way too predictable to defend against.

Well it's definately an improvement gameplay wise over Fifa 2005 and I really enjoy playing Fifa 2005 and still play it today, admittidly I still play PES4 much more than I do Fifa 2005 and by the looks of this game they are still behind PES/WE, but still enjoyable, I will definately go out and buy it.

hmm. I just played the demo. Hadnt played this game since Fifa 03. To sum up with my impressions from this demo, based on my previous experience i can say that it wasnt TOO over the edge extremely super disturbingly annoying. gotta say an achievement for a game made by EA.

Positive:

Corners are improved, makes it fun to take them again. With the last few FIFA's getting a corner didn't feel like a bonus, hopefully now it will.

AI has again improved. Although sometimes players seem to be keeping the ball a little too long, it's better then seeing them passing it as soon as they get it.

Animations look really smooth. First touch looks really realistic, penalty's look great too.


Negative

Compare the overall look with FIFA 2004 and 2005, and it's pretty much the same. Especially the camera angles and the cutscenes.

Haven't seen any highlights, I hoped that would stay. It really made every match different.

Maybe I'm wrong on this point. I miss first touch, 3-options-pass and speed controll of ground passes. Maybe it's there, but I haven't been able to use any of those options. They were great in 2005, but maybe it'll be more fun without them because it will make setting up an attack more difficult.


My overall opinion is very positive. I also like the way they finally made the demo right. Like you don't have to restart it after each match and you can finally choose between more than just 2 teams (without downloading patches).

Played the Demo for a bit, not as good as WE9 but its def an improvement since 2003.........LOL yo son why u gettin all mad over video games???? heres a chill pill nig

Random comments:

I like the commentary even though we only got glimpse of it. I remember one of the commentators saying "It was a very un-Italian like performance," when I was playing offensive with AC Milan.


And how does the free kick work? I'm talking specifically about free kicks that are meant to be shot at the net. Last year it had the ball spin control and you got to aim at which part of the net you wanted to shoot but now all you can do is move the kicker.

Someone complained of at least 2 things that are in the game and they said got out, to start the scoreboard has the option of having team names or not, activate or deactivate that in options ingame. The other thing is first touch, it's there, exactly as last year so i don't understand how can anyone say it's not there... many complains i see here are simply ridiculous... and please stop comparing FIFA to PES, compare FIFA 06 to previous FIFA's or to real football...
