FIFA 11 thoughts (AI behaviour)

I really like FIFA 11, it seems a far more fun and complete footballing experience than PES 11, and given this is the first time I've delved into FIFA in favour of PES, that's saying something!

Anyway, despite all the good, there are quite a few quirks which I was wondering what others thought about:

1. Crossing. Has anyone noticed that sometimes players do a kind of reverse curling cross? e.g. Running down the left wing, crossing with the left foot and yet the swerve takes it towards the goal... very bizarre. Haven't seen the AI do it as much as my own players, and I'm not even consciously trying to do this bizarre move. Also, crosses do have a tendency to be claimed by keepers on an all-to-regular basis.

2. Long shots. Boy are these hard to score. I've been playing with Hearts in the SPL and I just can't seem to score goals from 25-30 yards. Neither does the AI for that matter. In fact the AI rarely shoots from distance, which is probably just as well given it's so hard.

3. 1 on 1 goals. These are almost the antithesis of long shots in that they are by far the most reliable (and easy) way to score. They also constitute the vast majority of goals scored, for both me and the AI. Online it's even worse! Any tips to defending against this type of goal online?

4. Headers. I guess number 3 above is compounded by the fact that scoring goals from headers is extremely difficult and unreliable at best. Not quite as hard as long shots, as I have scored a few, but definitely a poor man's option compared to the through ball 1 on 1 chances.

5. Freekicks. The AI is just terrible at shooting and scoring from freekicks, nearly always ballooning the ball way over the bar. I've scored one, so they can be done, but the AI's not even come close.

I must say I'm not encountering any of the problems listed by you.

1. Haven't seen that at all, crosses look all perfectly normal.
2. Ok, long shots are hard, but it's possible. In fact, you don't see long shot goals in football that often.
3. I'm just having a hard time scoring one on one with the goalie. It's definitely much harder then in FIFA10. Online I always play with the offside trap, though it doesn't work that good. Try playing more defending.
4. Yes, it's hard, but it is possible. Try aiming well and only pressing the shoot-button once, and not for too long.
5. I had several free kicks scored against me, mostly on inconvenient moments too. When taking one yourself, make sure you pick a player specialized in free kicks.

I'm talking about FIFA on the PC, just in case that has any relevance. Assuming you're also on the PC, I'm amazed you haven't noticed some of the strange crossing.

Perhaps though, some of the other issues - heading, long shots, etc - are related to the fact that I've been playing with Hearts, who'll be comparatively terrible compared to those teams in the EPL. Still, Hearts will score long shots and headers in real life, so it begs the question ...

I play on World Class and have everything on Assisted. Although I have dabbled with Semi-assisted several times.

I could never work out how tapping the Bx2 and Bx3 for mid and low crossing worked when I was on anything but Assisted crossing settings.

ive seen the crosses you are talking about, its beyond bizarre to say the least.
it plain & simple defies physics.

the things i have to say i hate the most is the way the cpu can trap the ball & take off immediately, as opposed to the human who for some reason takes a second before you can be on your way.

also when the cpu tackles you they either take possession or it get knocked in a direction a cpu player is located, so is thier ball either way.

but when i tackle or block a pass or shot, it always goes directly out of play or directly to the feet of the defender, so its either a perfect tackle or you just helped the cpu complete a pass.

the cpu cutting ability is bananas compared to the humans they can go from facing left to an immediate right is one turn, as i seem to have to go in a circle.

plus the cpu team makes all kinds of nice runs that lead to advancing the build up up pitch, my guys make the trashiest runs, they might as well be going backwards.

& whats up w/ players just stopping to look at the ball instead of chasing it down, a cpu pass will cross my defenders path, he'll run towards it & at about 2 steps from it he stops & watches it go by, & does the same on loose balls also.

& the thing i hate the most is when you are pressing the cpu w/ 2 players they either run right past you & never look back or they will make some sort of ridiculous pass backwards w/o facing backwards at full power, it gets to the foot of the cpu player & no human players snatch it or block it.

yet the human cannot do that w/o holding the pass button forever & because the player you are passing to is behind you the ball goes 3 feet, then stops for the cpu.

fun & challenging game of world class or legendary, but by no means realistic at all.

its like a team golf competition, cpu is a bunch of tiger woods & human team is a bunch of 5 year olds.

even if RA or KONAMI deliveres the "perfect" game, some people will still complain about something, unbelievable...

im not saying FIFA 11 is perfect but its a strong very strong step and has absolutely enjoyable and competitive gameplay.

its not too enjoyable when the cpu cheats you constantly.

gameplay is slightly ridiculous, the things the cpu can do compared
to what the human can do is a joke.

& the forever & always get up a goal on the cpu & the infinite amount of pressure is put upon gets out of control.

maybe if you played on manual, you might find it a little annoying.

i played manual the entire time i had played on the console last year.
manual isnt that hard to master, just the shooting.

shooting never happens when every teams back line plays if they have the best defenders in the world.

wtf are you talking about ?

mastering fifa ?

i could if i spent every second playing it, im pointing out the stupid s**t ea has imported into this game.

its obvious you arent an english speaker, because you speak it like s**t & your comprehension of the language is even worse.

i guess google translate doesnt have a comprehension button.

you learn to understand what someone is saying before you make a comment.

i understand perfectly, and i told you from the start its too early, thats why you have all this "issues" with FIFA, and im sorry about my bad english, if you dont like them dont read them.

you run out of valid points and you critisize my english, nice nice, well have a good life

the point is your points arent valid.

when i say i played 10 for console & im playing 11 on pc, its the same game.
i am good w/ manual controls.

i wasnt complaining, i was stating the things i hate about the game, doesnt mean i cant deal w/ them.
you attack me w/ "you expect playing 15-20 days to "master" manual!" then continue to assume w/o reading "i played manual the entire time i had played on the console last year" in my next post.

the issue is you & your understanding of english, gets you confused w/ what i am saying.
so the point of what i said wasnt to criticize your english but to teach you a lesson.

why bother attempting to speak something if you dont know how to decipher it.
meaning some things said in the english language may look like something but could have a completely different meaning to them.

so learn how to read the CONTEXT of a sentence & understand whats being said, then assume something due to your lack of intelligence & understanding of the english language.

Starting XI
as one of Ian Jarvis's adopted child, i could say that my father had invented a new game for us and had delivered as scheduled on 8 October. Though, some of us had enjoyed it a week before it. oh my poor daddy....

First of all FIFA 11 PC is FIFA 10 console + many things from World Cup & some tweaks COMBINED ALL TOGETHER! so your grand statement "when i say i played 10 for console & im playing 11 on pc, its the same game." is inaccurate.

Im not going to bother with your pathetic insults. have a good gaming or whatever.

4. its all about timing and the correct circumstances (body position etc)
5. i have conceded goals from freekicks..

P.S. im not a bitch.
