Yeah europeans mostly don't care about non european oriented competitions.(:/)
That's like accusing CBS-watchers of not watching NBC.

NBC sucks, hence people watch CBS, ABC or FOX.

Probably you are right, but eh it's very easy to say that "X is the best of the world" when they don't get to show it against the best of each place.

my god people quite frankly i think they should bring back the intercontinental cup. that was the best it was europe vs south america. if people are going to sit here and tell me that asia, africa, and oceania can compare to these places then we got problems!

It's easy to say that.

But it was also easy to say Porto and Monaco didn't stand a chance in hell a few years back.

We play football on grass, not paper.

yes bobby thats true but seriously is there a point to this competition? i mean in australia for example the teams are getting a 3 week break just because sydney is competing. this tournament is a pointless one that has been placed in the middle of a lot of seasons. and i mean with the world cup ahead why would you have so many extra games. the players are all risking playing for their respected counties.

Yea, some people will look at it like that.

But Saprissa have several players on the Costa Rica squad, and they're going to the world cup. Those players are taking this very seriously.

Plus the prize money given out will have huge benefit to all the clubs but Liverpool, and even Liverpool wouldn't turn down a potential 14m pounds.

I've watched NBC and it's crap except for Conan.

Kinda like South America. Only Brazil is nice and the rest is meh.

in fact, why bother having a world cup at all with seasons this long. it should just be the the european champions playing the sth american champions once every few years. because we all know that the best footballing nations are all in europe and south america :jambo:

if the seasons are so long, why the **** have so many teams in leagues playing boring endless seasons to determine what you could predict with about 80% accuracy before the start of the season. seriously, why bother with fourty game league seasons, including twenty something teams half of whom are several classes below the top sides, if conditioning and full schedules are such big concerns. cut the leagues to 14/16 teams, you'll have a closer, tougher more interesting season for the better teams, the lower teams won't be thrashed 5-0 every week, and you can have these tournamets without people crying over how many games guys being paid millions a year to kick a ball are playing

well, the CL is only worth because teams want to win it... take the league cup, for example... some teams don't care about it, therefore the winner isn't always the best team... the same is valid for this world club championship...
Now I can hear people saying Liverpool wasn't the best team last season... but to win the CL, they beat teams that were actually trying to win it, and I can't guarantee Liverpool will be trying to win it in Japan... I mean, if they are 3-0 down by half time, I don't think they'd actually go and try to win it

And William... it seems like Fifa didn't cancel Corinthians' title after all... and I can't see the difference between 2000 tournament and this year's... both are pointless imho...

no in 2000, it wasnt an organized EVERYBODY. It was a mess of Brazilian teams and "others". This year there is organization 1 team from each region....F'n FIFA- I HATE the "fiel"....lol, jk (my Brazilian coming out)

I couldnt agree MORE with this statement.
Small teams LOVE long domestic season, so they can build themselves up, when in reality its all worthless. cut all top leagues to 16 teams I say.

I agree however it is always fun to root for the underdog and as long as the matches are of good quality I think this has the potential of becoming a big event. It will be the first of its kind worldwide for football and I disagree with those that say it will be crap. Football is football no matter who is playing.

Yes, because it would be during our campaign to win something that matters like the EPL or FA Cup.

I understand that those tournaments are very popular and pretigious and have great clubs. But I think this tournament can't be evaluated in that way. Because in the long term this may become a great tournament. It's just that it isn't part of the European football tradition now. But with time, we will see great teams come out of the other regions, and many times in the past the Toyota Cup would be won by south american teams.

At this point, its kind of like saying that the when a Japanese baseball team happens to beat a American baseball team that won the World Series, the Japanese team says it's the best in the World, when really that's not true. Would any american care about a game against a Japanese team, the answer is very bluntly "no".

But, Europeans should know that there are great teams also outside of Europe. And slowly, but with much time, great teams outside of Europe should come out and win this tournament. And it should mean something.

I mean, in the past, the NASL had a great team with the NY Cosmos, and with time, I mean a lot of years, MLS could do the same. And the winners of these continental cups should at least get a little respect. Of course at this moment, it would be hard to argue that any team in outside of Europe or S. America are up there with their best, but at the same time, they arn't crap. Deportivo Saprissa at least is respectable. I don't know about the other continents, but maybe there at least respectable, or course Oceania representative I think got to the tourney too easy, but there isn't really any alternative considering the way the regions are divided.

I think this tournament is a great idea, and what other club sport "really" has a world championship tournament in a real sense. Ok so it's not perfect, but its a start, that with time could be something great.

I hope some of these games will be showed here in Brazil, and if so, I'll be watching to see how it goes.

I think that's a good idea, but would it mean less $$$ for these big name teams. Because I'm sure that's all they are really caring about, and if that's the case, then it won't change.

if other feds do get seeded, expect europe to drop from the tournament, making it even more pointless...

I don't think that will happen, everyone knows its' just to give S. America and Europe those byes,

Everyone wake up, don't you realize that fifa has a motivation to make Football grow in other areas of the world other than Europe and S. America. It's like saying Coca Cola shouldn't go to mongolia.

And this is one way fifa can make this happen. I mean, Now I have a reason to pay attention to my MLS team in the the Concacaf Champions Cup, in hope that they can make it to the Fifa World Club Championship to play some great European or S. American team in some sort of competition. Plus, we have a chance to humble some Mexican Club team on the way.

Anyway, just my thoughts.
