i strongly get the feeling that site is biased based on the statements made about pes and Konami

Especially this part

It explains how the system was implemented but while we don't think we should share the specifics with you, ironically in case Konami learns all about it (that would be good for Konami but not good for football games in the long term and certainly not good for Gameplanet's chances of getting this kind of access in the future) what we can tell you is how it works during gameplay.
^^Asslicking??

and also its a little site, what does their voice mean in the gamebizz. I can also make a site and post a review saying pes4 is the best in the world, but that dont mean nothing...

We all should get FIFA 2005 all of us.. but not buy it, get it from the net :rockman: .

That way EA can eat our a$$es with a spoon. And after that it will be waisting our hard-drive space but it will be cool comparing two games WE8 vs FIFA 2005.

The only thing I`m interested in FIFA 2005 is that new camera.

I've seen a few gameplay videos of FIFA2005 over at IGN. I kept an open mind, surely EA couldn't make a crap game yet again...?
Well, guess what. They have.
From what I can see in the gamplay videos, the gameplay still looks crap, same as 2003 and 2004, the player likeness is better and this time they don't look like burn victims but the animations (especially the net) are still shockinly aweful.

FIFA 2005 is going to continue in the footstepts of previous titles and be yet another crap game.

To counter that first post (complement it?), you have this:

After playing Winning Eleven 8 for around 1 hour, I noticed that my game was a review no more. It was 2 AM when we were about to leave to the hostal [sic], and as I looked as the Play Station 2 and wanted to play Winning Eleven for a couple of extra hours, I realized that there's something about this game that just feels like real soccer. Matches are intense, the artificial intelligence is brilliant, controls are challenging and keep improving after each version, and (for my surprise), patches for the Play Station 2 are all over the net.

I'm very thankful about this time that I got to spend visiting my friend Sahar Ben Attar. For those of you who know a bit about the scene history, Sahar was among the creators of various Israeli patches, designed by Euro-Ball. After playing this video game with such excitement (yes, I felt like a 10 year old boy behind of his first Nintendo) I'm pretty sure that this years: Winning Eleven 8 International and Pro Evolution Soccer 4 will surely play an important role in the soccer video gaming industry.

Expect my complete review of this game in a few days. In the meantime you can enjoy 15 screenshots of the game (excact shots of a TV playing WE 8: japanese version addapted to english)...

screenshots here:

I guess it comes down to how each person perceives the actual meaning of "authentic soccer experience." Some folks think that what that means is players and situations that look and feel and conduct themselves like the football they've played and watched. Other feel EXACTLY the SAME way, but their "lens" is attuned to things like kits and chants and faces...

With the patching that's available for PES4/WE8, and the alleged tweaking of gameplay that is supposedly attached to FIFA 2005, each person can get what they want, starting from their own frame of reference.

AS for me, I must start with gameplay, and allowthe community to add the kits and so on and so forth...

PES for me.

just checking whether we are in 2004, 2003 or 2002, 2001...

while i agree to your point that in the end it's in everybody's own perception of how realistic PES (or FIFA) is, and of how much each one enjoys it, i think it's reviews like the above -- notably the quotes "it just feels like real soccer" and "the artificial intelligence is brilliant" alongside with the "why fix it if it ain't broken?" comments from further above, that do IMO nothing -- i repeat: zero -- in bringing this franchise any further.

if i were a programmer who read this stuff each and every year, no matter what i put out there, i would certainly be proud and shed a tear or two for the loyalty of my customers. but maybe i would also start to slack it off a little over time. because seems that even if i pooed in the PS2-Box someone would come up and write a review about the fact that my poo were "brilliant" and "felt like real poo".

reading the feedback from people who got WE8 already, my impression is that's what Konami has been doing lately (not pooing, but slacking off a bit). i gather that not only from around here, but also from some trustworthy gaming sites like eurogamer.net, who are usually drooling all over WE, yet this year seem a bit underwhelmed to say the least, which is quite uncomforting.

So instead of "sitting" together and discussing what the issues could be and what should be addressed and maybe brought forth to the developers in a grown up manner, sure as hell some dork comes along copies and pastes a WE7 review ("this game feels like real soccer!") replaces WE7 with WE8 and needs to share with the world. I mean this dude was playing the game "for about an hour" and already knows, that the "AI is brilliant". WTF?

i for one need not be told how great WE is. i know that. accepted. no questions asked. agreed. not disputed. Seabass and the dev team know that too and need not be told all the time. we show enough appreciation already in buying the product, often, as in my case, for many years and lately for both PS2 and PC.

i think, however, this is what excessive stuff like the above leads to, or as aqua put it in another thread: the many not so "brilliant" things in WE8 are what the fanboys deserve yet ultimately cast upon the people who are a bit more critical, even though equally -- if not more -- involved with this game.

I've heard talk of gameplay improvements to fifa for years, no more talking. Show me a full match video of the gameplay and then ill make my decision. With previous fifa titles, you can tell if it's going to be nearly the same as the year before. So yeah, show me a full match replay video or something before ranting about it.

Just wait for reviews from good unbiased sites like ign

Unfortunately, that site is not from the outskirts of NZ. It's in the heart of NZ's biggest city.

Fortunately, it's the site for a gaming store.

And since their sole purpose is to sell as many games as possible, all of their reviews are dumb bull like this one is.

And on top of it, given the fact that NZ as a market can't even remotely be compared to the US or the UK, it's highly unlikely that they will get some top-secret video (or whatever) from EA.

JUST AS IT BECOMES apparent that Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer will once again have no online support when PES4 releases this Spring, an even more amazing scenario is brewing over at Electronic Arts.

FIFA 2005 is the best football game we've ever played. That's right, the series that has the most licenses now has more gameplay to boot, and while we don't doubt Konami will once again emerge with another groundbreaking title this year, it's going to take some doing to beat what EA has been up to.

Knocking the football around with FIFA 2005 is a detached delight, akin to observing a live match while holding a PS2 remote as opposed to one for the TV. PES provides concentrated gameplay even with its passing system, where unless you time your button presses to coincide with player positioning and body movement, you'll hoof a dud straight to the opposition. FIFA has always made this part easier, hence the feeling of detachment from the actual players. If you have the vision, it is possible to keep the ball going from player to player just like on TV, whereas Konami will have you thrilled at the end of a 0-0 draw at the pleasure of a clean sheet and several minutes of thumb training in demanding conditions.

If soccer is the beautiful game, EA Canada has made it so even on PlayStation 2. That's not a reference to the graphics, by the way. We all know the relative strengths of each game in this department. However, EAC has taken FIFA to a new level with animation and ball physics - and pass execution - that is a lot closer to the real thing than anything that has gone before.

Receivers now move into the pass, which tends to go a step ahead of them after skidding, rolling and bouncing with supreme authenticity. The passing and trapping is equally realistic, and even your analogue aiming threatens to ruin opportunities and put team-mates off their timing. Remember - PES has never used analogue control for anything other than filling meters (and we don't want to get picky about the fact the DualShock 2 is in fact all-digital anyway).

Something else we love about FIFA 2005 is the television-angle camera, which not only provides our favourite angle for seeing angles and action but moves like no camera before it, crossing the pitch from is central position with perfect zoom and framing. Mixed with the new animation and ball effects, you can see why the detached experience is so believable.

But it's time to talk about the single improvement that has seen the game progress not only beyond its previous iterations, but also anything we have seen from Konami to date. That improvement is the implementation of first touch control via the right analogue stick. Now, Gameplanet has seen some footage that possibly no-one else in the world has seen outside of Electronic Arts staff.

If you don't know what first touch is, it is simply what the player does with the ball in the moment of his first contact. As EA admits, opportunities were wasted in FIFA 2004 due to players always trapping the ball rather than doing something else with it, and trapping it in the same way no matter the situation or the player involved. First touch, which has been automated in PES based on your player positioning and movement since it was introduced two years ago, now has a legion of permutations, all determined by your input to the right stick as well as the left depending on the height of the ball. You can even score goals with it, which doesn't sound unusual in football, but now it's executed manually rather than as necessary in PES based on when you hit the shot button.

This changes FIFA 2005 from a game that lets in goals based on exploitation more than anything to an experience where the striker-keeper relationship is totally revisited. PES implemented a delay in the 'keeper's reactions that was necessary, and while frustrating in terms of realism, about the only way to balance the game. And balance has always been a hallmark of that series from evolution to evolution. Now it's a matter of tricking the 'keeper rather than simply forcing him into a compromising situation.

You can use first touch to get around a marker, or through him, or over him. You can use it to set up a long pass or a shot, or another fancy right-stick move that many players will be well versed in from FIFA 2004, both on the ball and off. And if you don't care for any of this, you can always ignore it and play without the right stick altogether, though we doubt anyone could resist the opportunity to play such a beautiful game.

Gameplanet commends Konami for sticking to hand animation to allow for instant player control rather than forcing players to put up with motion-capture cycles, but now even that has been changed in FIFA 2005. Players react immediately and we can only wait with baited breath to see what PES4 will do with its own animation, not to mention everything else.

They havent played PES 3 - obviously!!

Just to elaborate a bit on the FIFA2005 gameplay vids I saw over at IGN (Xbox , PS2 ) looked exactly like previous versions, I couldn't really tell if it was 2005 or maybe 2004 or 2003, it's basically got the same FIFA un-fluid gameplay style. What really stood out for me though was that the player models looked pretty terrible. They didn't have burn marks this time and the faces do look awesome but they are all thin and tall (or so it seems) it looks absolutely stupid.

I have to disagree, i just saw the latest gameplayvid from EA and I was impressed with the animations in Fifa2005. In 2004 animations s***ed but now it al seemed fluid. The (only) I liked better in Fifa then PES (so far) is that when you are attacking, not al 10 players stay in the penalty area and then try to kick the ball as far away as possible. I really hate that. The IA of the defence is what I don't like in PES.

Konami has licenses too, maybe not the EPL, but still, all teams are there under different names and all players are there. It's not like you have Ryhen instead of Henry at Arsenal or something.
