As EA admits, opportunities were wasted in FIFA 2004 due to players always trapping the ball rather than doing something else with it

Hmm, don't recall that in all the glossy ads, web sites, packaging and glitz last year, do any of you?

Its a bit like the detergent ads on TV, in recent years there was a spate of them showing the 'yellow' whites of last year's product compared to the brilliant whites of this year's, trouble was the ad for the previous year's showed the same brilliant white that they now say you don't get a year on.

So what happened to the old detergent that was so amazing at its job last year? Fact is, detergents from 10 years ago, did the same job with the same results as they do now, but if you spin people a fanny old tale that it doesn't then the majority will believe you and buy the new 'improved' version.

EA has been exploiting this phenomenon every single year since it first appeared on mega drive away back in 94.

Last year's was perfect, the best there's ever been, until its released and work starts on the next version. I fell for it once, but as the old saying goes, you can fool some of the people all of the time, all of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time.

Lesson's have been learned in my gaming habits, this 'new feature' will just mean I can score a 40 yard screamer EVERYTIME but with the added ability to do it with a first touch.

EA are CRAP, their football philosphy is CRAP and their game is consitently CRAP, that has been the story for 11 versions so far, what makes this change all of a sudden for the 12th version?

They ain't selling me the old 'now washes whiter' crap any more, if its classy footy and no lies your after, get PES, if you have no mind of your own, get FIFA and be brainwashed once a year.

While I agree that FIFA is not as good as PES , I hold jugdement on 2005 until people have played it for a while!

But forget FIFA I am interested in PES/WE, I have played PES3 since it came out and having played football games since my Specturm ZX I think I know a thing about them, PES is the best but still far from perfect.

Yes all the new licences this year are nice and the animation is a lot better and you can pick you own goal celebration from 1 of 48 is it, and some players have there own special moves.. great!

But I want the basic's fixed first, I know, you know , all the players of PES know! and konami know that there are basic "flaws faults bugs, call them what you want! in the game.

The passing, we all know the one , player free, you aim to pass to him and the pass goes to one of your other players, one you weren't even facing!

Human team AI, the lack of movement for the players in your team, from supporting runs to a loose ball running near one of your team mates thats no highlighted, he just let the thing go.

And the one where your player is running "sprinting" to close down a CPU player in the act of traping a high ball or going for a 50/50 ball., your players suddenley slows down , stops and Ieven had them turn away, until the CPU player has the ball undercontrol.. Yes I heard of Super Cancel that should have been a temp fix and not the norm.. Anyway even using it , you player has already slowed or stopped..

Of all the post Ive read on WE8?PES4 these 3 main bugbears are still there, why does Konami not fix them? They knew that they were in PES3 ..

My Q? is , why have konami not fixed these 3 main flaws?

It´s amazing there´s still people out there that believe that every ******* day it´s christmas time!!

I can tell you all one thing, i´ve had every single Fifa game since Fifa 1996 (I even played the first Fifa, back in 1993 i think, it was on 4 floppy disks) and i play PES since the first one, i have already WE8 and i can tell you all some things:

1º year after year I was hoping that Fifa could bring me something worth of playing and year after year they failed to do so. A game with all the licences sure, but with terrible gameplay, slow response to our comands, and amazing bugs (as in Fifa 2003 that we couldn´t head the ball if we were alone!!!) a game that after a couple of hours of play start to show us the same kind of plays, the same goals, the same runs! Just boring, unrealistic and IMO very limited.

2º 3 years ago i bought a PS2 and a game (PES), my life changed entirely after that, i can still remember the joy that i felt after my first PES game, that was pure football, the response of the players to our comands, the freedom that we have to do every kind of diferent plays, (in the WE/PES series it´s virtually possible to do anything we want to do, there is no limits), the passing, the crossing, the shooting, just amazing.

3º after that first experience I was convinced, even so i continued to buy the Fifa game untill last year, disapointment after disapoitment, i can say you all this, i´m not going to buy this one, and I only will play it if a friend of mine buys it or if i decide to get it by other means...

4º (finally) I´m already playing WE8 and i can tell you this, almost perfect!! If they can eliminate the frame slowdowns at corners for the PES4 they will achieve football heaven, because this game is amazing!! Konami is doing the most basic thing to achive this, year after year they stick with the things that were already perfect and tunned things that needed to be improved, this year they´ve done it once again ant the final result is outstanding!!

mighty tic, that big paragraph of bulls hit really does nothing for us PES fans, you will never convince any of us that fifa is good, its just too hard to convert from pes to fifa

Because the game would be too easy without them.

And just wait until you play PES4. If WE8 is anything to go by, there will be occassions that you will be astonished by just how bad the flaws are. On 6 stars, you will be controlling a player running for a loose ball near the edge of your box and he will jsut stop running, like your controller has stopped working - you try super-cancel and he's still not moving. Meanwhile, a cpu guy comes sprinting in like Justin Gatlin and zooms off with the ball...then your guy comes back to life again. Woeful in the extreme.

Also, I've had occassions when in my my own box, the defender I'm controlling will sometimes just walk right over the top of the ball like it's a hologram or something, refuse to kick it even though your press pass or shoot, anything to try and kick the f*cking thing clear.....meanwhile, a cpu guy comes sprinting in like Justin Gatlin and hammers the ball into the net.

Of course, the old favourites are still there....a ball is played into your box straight towards a cpu striker. Your moving your defender in to close him down but as the ball nears him, your defender decides to take a step away from him, the opposite direction to which you're aiming, to ensure the cpu attacker gets to the ball first and has a nice clear shot on goal. You view the replay to see if you just imagined it, but know, it really was that bad.

But you already know all about these ones from PES3.

So EA add "First Touch" and everyone slags the idea off... which is fair enough if you don't like FIFA. I am watching the development with interest whilst playing WE8.

What do Konami add to the first of this years releases to add to the game?

Better shooting? Nope, shooting is not as good as PES3 IMO.

Better Passing? Long passing is better but short passing still doesn't work quite right all the time.

Super AI... you wish.

So what is it you ask? What great improvement have Konami added to use up their valuable development time that's stopped them from fixing the flaws?

a tiger head...
a couple of wasps around someone's head that has been stung..
a giant eagle on your shoulders...
a monkey on your head...
a snake,
a space helmet and a kendo mask... and some other fancy hairstyles...

That my friends is what we can brag to the FIFA fans about... "Hey you FIFA guys can't score with a monkey on your head!"... EA must be quaking in their boots, FFS!!!

And WE are the ones financing this lark with our hard earned cash (or pocket money if that's the case). If the inclusion of this pointless load of drivel doesn't prompt scores of PES fans to write in disgust to Konami then there is no hope for us all. Because as long as we pay for stuff like this, they'll just keep churning it out.

Pity you couldn't reply without resorting to insults ... anyway, in response to your "reply"... Joke or not, all this took time, time that could have been better spent productively, improving the many things that the game needs improving.

That was my point... not that it was the ONLY thing added to the game but that it was a JOKE... a real JOKE!

Apart from that... how many of those additions actually improve the GAME rather than the cosmetics of it? Plus, how many of them actually made it into the game?

"L1 + /\: has a powerbar", not in my version it doesn't...

"Increase in the AI of the CPU", I can't see it to be honest.

"Referee not issuing yellow for the first average tackle".. unless it's the CPU in which case they still won't get any kind of card for hacking you down with their last man... which is a Red Card offense.

"New Passing System", still flawed.

Honestly, Konami are almost as guilty as EA for "false hopes", Konami just has a better initial product but is getting very complacent. I really want to see some competition to wake them up again... there's no doubting it's a better game but it would do no harm for it to receive some serious improvements... as would your attitude to other posters on this board.

Keep making FIFA as it is... we will get more and more converts to pes/we when people just get the hint.

Ok so you do actually make a better game and things are slowly improved, sure i'll buy it as well as pes/we, because i, like many others here am a football fan foremost. I want to play what i watch on tv. We/pes gives that now...has for awhile it seems...FIFA does not imo and others think/said this over n over as well.
