I didn't notice a thread, so i just wanted to put this up so people who weren't aware could hear about the horrible tragedy that has struck the city of New Orleans and its surrounding communities. Hurricane Katrina has absolutely demolished the city, and things have gotten so bad that the governor has ordered the evacuation of the entire city. Death count is feared to be in the thousands. To top it all off, a bunch of idiots decided it would be funny to loot, so now the city is underwater and being robbed. The survivors are being hailed to the Superdome, the arena where the Saints play, but things have gotten so out of control that trash fires have broken out, and at one point, a police helicopter has been shot at. The national guard has been called in, and the city is in utter chaos.
To further the damage, all oil production along the Gulf has been shut down. Thanks to that, gas prices have skyrocketed more then $.55 on average, and i believe that in Louissiana prices have jumped over $6 a gallon That is unprecidented in the U.S. The scary thing is, things are going to get worse before they can get better. The city of N.O. is uninhabitable, and it would take officials close to a year before they could clean up the city of all the debris. Many are saying that this is one of, if not the worst natural disasters to hit the United States. Countless families have lost their lives, and some have been split up. New survivors have no food or water because of the situation in the Superdome, and there are so many it is hard to distribute them to surrounding communities. It is an extremely unfortunate situation.
