Narnia, the original animated version.

The animation is so incredibly wank, but the main theme is so amazingly good that it somehow makes up for it. Why in holy hell they didnt use the same theme in the new (and pretty decent) film, i'll never know.

Hey. I've always wondered, what's the story behind a lot of the movies produced each year being released weeks or months later in Europe than in America? I mean, you usually see the stars of those movies going to their European premiers a day or two later after their American debuts, so why don't they get the same push and theatrical release in Europe as they do in America?

There's got to be some sort of business logic behind it all, yes? Is the European movie-going audience that much smaller than it's American counterpart?

that, and as you touched on, the huge amount of publicity needed before each film.

Though i admit, that doesnt take months at a time, but it does take weeks (not just for the actors, for the production companies too).

Also, a film with rave reviews in the U.S will just wet the appetite of European audiences before it gets here.

no the european audience is more "classy". Wants better quality and doesnt laugh with stupid jokes. Bit harsh..? maybe, but its true. European Cinema is the way to go

Angels with Dirty Faces.... Michael Curtiz classic with Cagney and Bogart... good, but not as good as I was expecting. A bit forumlaic, a bit characturish and not nearly as riveting a story or cutting edge direction as movies by the likes of Huston, Hawks or Walsh. Curtiz would have been better sticking with big epics. Cagney was great, as always, but Humph is better as a leading man, and the rest of the cast were nothing to write home about. Part of the problem was that I had just seen White Heat a few nights ago, which is the best golden age mob movie by a million miles, and nothing could stand up by comparison. But yeah, I was expecting more, my least favourite Cagney movie that I've seen so far, though one of his best performances.

Sucks that QT had to sacrifice and sell that script just to bankroll Reservoir Dogs.

Anyway yeah. A ******* classic, that's for sure.

btw, did you happen to find the supporting star count too overwhelming at all? It seems as though everytime I go back to that movie I discover another star. Of course, most of them were just getting started back then. but you still kinda wish that the movie was longer so they could get more screen time.

hurhur.......ouch! Well, that's a tad too harsh I suppose, but I can't entirely deny the fact that, generally speaking, the European movie going public is more selective, sophisticated and willing to accept thought provoking, non-blockbuster indie type movies. At the same time, I'm sure that those in Europe, much like in North America, who prefer populist, escapist type of movies just for the sake of entertainment out-number their more perceptive/savvy counterparts.

When you're bankrolled by the money-making machine that's Hollywood, you've gotta sometimes compromise your integrity and principles in order to make a profit. Otherwise, you're stealing from your parents to finance your Gonzo porn projects.

I watched Three Men and a Leg today. It's an Italian comedy movie about 3 men on a roadtrip from Milan to the south of Italy. One of them is going to marry the daughter of some kind of Mafia boss, and the other 2 are already married with 2 of his other daughters. One the way they have to bring an artificial leg made by a famous artist with them for the big boss... Of course with all kinds of trouble.
It's a really fun movie, but I think you need to be formiliar with Italian culture to truly enjoy this movie. The humour is really simple and down to earth, but I enjoyed it very much.

watched Miami Vice last night...

Ok wasn't great, but not as bad as some of the reviews out there made it seem IMO.. It has that Michael Mann feel to it which I really like, even if it wasn't one of his better films.

a shame that the car only was in action for about 10 seconds in the whole movie and too much about the poker. Next time find some goodlooking women too.
