But I bet if they were to win the league, those fans would celebrate in the streets.

Well, at least there's an answer for their not being a single fan in the stands. How long will is this ban for?

I'll try to write a bit about the situation with the Monaco fans and their attendance.

The original Stade Louis II was built in 1939. The capacity then was 12 000. The stadium got demolished in 1989 to replace it with a new one. The current stadium has a capacity of 18 500. According to wikipedia, in 2011 the population of Monaco was around 36 000.

Las two times ASM won the Ligue 1 were in 1996/97 and in 99/2000. During 97, the average attendance was around 6000, in 2000 it reached 10 000. After that, for few season the average attendance remained as low as 7000 - 8000. It only got up to 10k after the 2003/2004 season (CL final). The numbers began to drop few seasons before relegation. Their last season in L1 was also a failure in crowd numbers. Average attendace didn't even reach 7000. Other teams relegated that season were Lens (avg att 31 000) and Arles Avignon (avg att 9000).

The first season in L2 was even more embarassing for Monaco - the average attendance dropped below 5000, while Lens kept getting around 30 000.

This year, after all the spending, the first home match against Montpellier had over 14 000 specatators, which is a pretty good ammount of people, I doubt they can keep the momentum, but most likely they will get over 10 000 in average after the season is over. By the way, 10 000 people also came to watch Leicester City host Monaco during the pre-season, in July.

The biggest fan group for ASM are the Ultras Monaco 1994. Inferni Biancorossi, also started in 1994, dissolved in 2010. In 2003 another ultra group was formed - Groupe Heracles 2003. I don't even know if they exist anymore. Few years ago, they were the most active of the fans when it came to away trips. At the best of times, the ultras have occupied one or two of the stands at Stade Louis. As far as I've heard, the hardcore supporters of Monaco haven't really gone along with the political polarization (e.g Marseille ultras are left-wing, PSG ultras are far-right), but they do tend to be rather right.

There's also the official Supporters Club, who organize the ticketing for away matches and try to cooperate with the ultras (e.g try to avoid conflicts like the one that resulted the club being punished last season).

What a great weekend! :D

Valenciennes 0 - 1 Marseille

85th minute strike by Gignac, who is knocking on the door of the French NT again, got l'OM a difficult win away at their bogey team. 9 out of 9, a brilliant start for the season.

Lyon 0 - 1 Reims

Odair Fortes scored on the 76th minute. Lyon looked so good in first two matches. Now they've lost in Europa and in the Ligue. Shots 18 - 6 to Lyon!

If Gourcuff and Gomis are really to leave, they'll have one hell of a season coming up for them...

Two big matches tomorrow Lille vs ASSE and Nantes vs PSG. I predict a shitstorm, if PSG won't be able to beat Nantes.

Does anyone knows what kind of midfielder Guilagovi is?

A promising DM, physically very strong. Along with Aubameyang one of the guys who carried ASSE last season. Will be one of the contenders for a starting place for France NT in few years. Usually played as one of the 2 defensive midfielders in a 4-2-3-1

But what is him? Box-to-box, anchor man, deep-lying playmaker, etc...? is him fast? can dribble? good header? Passing skills and technique level?

Rather an anchor man, I'd play him as a centre back rather than as a CM/AM. I haven't seen too much of him, but from what I have seen and heard, he's a pretty big, defensive minded dude, so don't expect much dribbling and pace from him. And as said, he has played as a CB, also scoring few headers, physically powerful and pretty tall (188 cm), so a decent header.

If Simeone made Gabi seems a good player and Koke play for the national team i reckon he can turn this guy into Yaya Toure.

Some awesome transfers done this summer, even excluding the two rich sides.

Toulouse has now got a team with good balance between vets and youngsters. Most of the players should be known to people who are usually not into Ligue 1. Landreau, Squillaci, Modeste, Romaric, Krašic.

Marseille has done some serious business. Would've liked seeing Barton back in France, but sadly he'll continue at QPR, seems that money was more important than CL football. But still. Payet from Lille, had an awesome season last year, finished the season with most assists in the league. Also from Lille, one of the most promising youngsters of the league Thauvin. Some more youngsters, from who Gianelli Imbula who came from Guingamp has been most impressing

For Lyon the most important thing in this window was that they didn't lose the players that seemed certain to leave. Still Bastos to UAE side Al-Ain and Lisandro to Qatar. Reveillere released and now in talks with Marseille, who most likely won't be able to match his wage demands.

Ludovic Giuly has joined Monts d'Or Azergues, his childhood team, in the amateur league. He will now be playing on Stade Ludovic Giuly :D

Yes well, Olimpiakos and Benfica aren't exactly powerhouses at the moment, and the french league is the french league.
