Morientes speaking the truth :read:

Liverpool's Fernando Morientes has cheekily suggested that Chelsea will not qualify from the group stages of the UEFA Champions League.

Morientes was cup tied as Liverpool knocked Chelsea out of the competition last season, but he believes that Real Betis will join The Reds in the knock out stages of the competition.

"We've got them sussed,'' insisted Morientes.

"If I was a betting man I'd tip us and Real Betis to go through - and not Chelsea.

"We were accused of being lucky in the semi-final.

"Yet Chelsea did not score in either leg and that tells you a lot about the good work done by Rafa Benitez. It was a perfectly-planned match.

"We have a great chance of beating them again - not because we are European champions but because we know how to play Chelsea.

"Perhaps it is better for us to face Chelsea because we know them so well.

"We have confidence knowing we knocked them out last season. But for the sake of English football, it would be best if we both go through."

Think we are gonna go 1 upfront again on sunday vs Chelsea.

I wanna see Cisse through the middle. Crouch needs people around him to be more effective.

doesnt really matter how many we have upfront. crouch, cisse, morientes and pongolle are shít.

the strikers are not the problem. you guys need to play so that gerrard can focus on attacking and not have to worry about running back to defend. he doesn't have that right now and it's screwing everything up.

I think the problem is the tactics, and we seem to launch too many balls directly from our field to the attack (aka long balls...). Plus when the team tries to do it the proper way, by passing, there's always someone to screw up and miss the pass...

our problem is our actual service to our strikers. During the chelsea match i swear i did not see any proper or attemped shots form crouch besides two headers. All of it basically came from alonso and gerrard. Garcia looks to be a bit weak against chelsea and was full of confusion as he didnt make the right choices most of the time. about the service, when pongolles came on it liftend the attack providing more chances. None of our tempory RW can actually cross atm. Even putting our full backs finann and riise in those positions could work out because those fellas can actually cross in a perfect floating ball to either morientes or crouch. What ive been seeing so far are drills that dont go higher than chelseas first defenders head.

Not having watched the match i really have to ask.....WTF???  Everyone's saying Chelsea ripped us apart. The score sure seems to point to that. I find it hard to believe.....especially after all the pre-match hype :(

Was people watching the same game i was :o we made defensive mistake and Chelsea punished us its a simple as that and just because Chelsea beat us 1-4 it doesn't change anythink.

"As far as I'm concerned it's one game lost and anyone with intelligence will see it like that. It doesn't matter what the score was. It's just one game and now we have to look forward. This game has gone and we need to think about the next game." -Rafa Here here :read:

Our main weakness in that game was hyypia. Although still an elite player i think hes potential ahs been reached and is decreasing now. HE is just too slow and drogba.... he was pure class. Gerrard was once again inspirational, him alonos and carragher were our only players performing well aswell as crouch but he just couldnt find the target. Owell i hope we can do somrthing against the in form blackburn. gotta close down pedersen

ahah yeh right at the end. I guess we thought we can do a miracle comebakc like against milan. That wasnt the case though but it shows our fans are still the beest in the world by far giving appreciation to our team. Simao has become our top target now. I hope we actually do get him. He may cost abit but the way he's playing at the moment for both international and club level i dont see why we shouldnt spend a bundle on him. If we dont get him now then i reckon during summer its going to be much tougher. Simao in the liverpool squad. How f***** awsome ahaha.
I hope benitez makes the best selections of players to sign during january to lead us to a miracle finish!

Liverpool make Simao top target

Benfica winger Simao Sabrosa is top of Liverpool's shopping list when the transfer window opens again in January, according to Anfield chief Rick Parry.

Their initial offer of £12m for the Portuguese international was rejected on August's transfer deadline day.

"After we failed to get him (Simao) we have continued to follow him and monitor his performances and progress," Parry said in the Daily Star.

"We still need a player like him and we appreciate his qualities."

Meanwhile, Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso believes the club need to recruit more players once the transfer window re-opens.

The European champions have suffered their worst start in the league for 13 seasons, and are 17 points behind league leaders Chelsea.

"We are trying to use all the options we have at the moment, but you can see we need a little more.

"All we can do is wait until the transfer window opens again in January. Until then we must start winning as soon as possible because we are not in a comfortable position."

I thought that the whole reason we didn't get him in the summer is because he or Benfica didn't want him to join us. Whats changed now?

Tbh, Rafa Benitez has sucked in the transfer market, and he sucks in the prem. He's wasting a sh!tload of money in the transfer marker, and he's wasting a (somewhat)talented squad. I mean, how can you have people like Alonso and Gerrard in midfield, and still lose? While teams like us play a striker in the middle...What a waste..

No defensive midfielder. Although Alonso is playing as one, hes not an out and out defensive midfielder. I also think Gerrard trying to do everything is not helping. If anything, I would play them the other way around, put Gerrard as the more defensive midfielder and have Alonso in an attacking midfielder position. This way Alonso can play the ball in for the forwards, giving them the service we need and have been missing. Also play two upfront, with Cisse being in the team where he should be
