Isn't Shaw a sideback?

Hummels/Jones would be decent enough. If partnered with a solid CB, Jones will do well. Shaw on the left.

Hummels is overrated.

I know but as someone already mentioned, good CB reinforcements are hard to find.

I still think Jones could become really good, I just wish Fergie hadnt fucked with his position so much. Fergie took the next Rio Ferdinand and may have turned him into the next John O'Shea.

He is good but he should have been the new Ferdinand by now. He has played 15 games as CB out of 34 games this season. He should make the CB position his. We should have proper backup for RB because we currently have only 1 proper right back.

In his young, developmental phase he should have been honed on the CB position and instead he was bounced around CB/ RB and DMC. Doing that to Smalling is fine, he will be a great utility player, but Jones should have been specialized from day one.

Yes, that is due to the lack of quality in midfield and lack of backup at RB for years. Last proper midfielder we bought before Fellaini (who is not even a "proper" midfielder) was Hargreaves in 2007. Rafael has been the sole proper RB for years (backups are Smalling, Valencia and Jones - all out of position).

Fergie was so capable he could hold teams together with sticky tape (anyone remember that side who beat arsenal with rafael and fabio as wingers?), but this did result in some very poor transfer decisions/positions being left uncovered for a long time. Also, why didnt you bring anyone through from the academy for those key positions, other than cleverley?

Good CMs are difficult to find in England. They have to be bought. Cleverley when used properly can be good but still far from good enough for Man Utd.

I agree with the Fergie part. A lot of poor transfer decisions or transfers that did not work as planned (e.g. Rossi, Pique could have been handled better, buying an injured CM in Hargreaves, 30m for Berbatov when we already had a worldclass attack, Anderson for 26 millions etc). You could add Tevez and Pogba there but they were ****s and would never have been able to play under Ferguson. Despite these poor decisions, he still managed to win titles.

Why tried, but ended up with Keiran Richardson, Danny Simpson and Phil Bardsley

You would have kept Pogba, and probably would have invested centrally too.. And schools wasn't exactly crucial to that title

Pogba became one of the best young mids in the world just 6 months later, didn't he?

This is like saying Januzaj should have been starting games for United last season. We should have let Giggs retire to gamble on Januzaj.

6 months can make a big difference at this stage of footballers career. When he was given the opportunity for United in his last season (he played 7 games), he didn't take his chances. You could see the potential but he was nowhere near ready to boss United's midfield. It was just a matter of time before he played more regularly and I am sure he would have played more regularly had he stayed at United.

I think United should've kept O'Shea around, actually. If he's anything, he's a very handy squad player. His presence would've probably helped Jones too since O'Shea could've been used as the utility man while Jones developed as a CB.

You're being ridiculous. Pogba didn't get his chances and when YOUR ENTIRE FUCKING MIDFIELD IS OUT it is precisely the time to give him a shot. You didn't. Juve did and he immediately paid dividends. Interpreting this as anything rather that incredible ineptitude can only be possible if you force yourself to misinterpret the situation.

I have to disagree, he was very crucial. He would come in and take charge of midfield, dictate the pace in every game that we struggled to hold on to the ball. Without a question, we wouldn't have won that EPL title without him.
